Silsbee 80 Houston Washington 74/FINAL
JimThorpe replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
It doesn't much matter about the seeding. Everybody knows, especially after today, that Silsbee could and would beat either Boerne or Hirsch. Friday is the 4A championship game for all intents and purposes. If Silsbee comes up short they are the second place team in 4A in 2022. -
And at least two times during those years, including this year, Silsbee beat the 3d place, 2nd place and 1st place teams from 23 4A.

You were right but you’ve got to admit it wasn’t a hard call. After watching Washington yesterday and seeing what the Tigers comfort level would be with the venue it was clear. You could see it coming in advance almost as if it was already a memory. Silsbee was happier here than the last two gyms and the shooting showed it. So there wasn’t going to be a letdown. So without a letdown the thing is almost mathematical. -

These kids can play for hours and they often do. But after a while you start making mistakes. You don’t even realize it in pickup games or at practice. But at this level it’s crucial. Silsbee made mistakes too but they were making fewer in the second half. -

Even though it was really pretty predictable it still thrilling. What I didn’t predict was Washington 3 point shooting. Those starting 5, if they play like they did today could challenge even FF until they play out. -

The Tigers of Bush/McCain/Adams period were pretty good at getting the opponents posts in foul trouble, especially in the postseason play. One year they did it against Yates in the Region final and then again against Brazosport in the championship game. Some of that would be real handy right about now. Thing is we'll have to actually foul McDurmott out. They won't sit him down with even 4 fouls. -

Yates hadn't gelled yet in the first game. A third time and it would be even, a toss up. Yates could have also beaten LBJ if they had met. -

We are pretty thoroughly out manned by Washington as far as the starting 5 go. And we won’t be able to run on them in the first half. But in the second half all bets are off. I was paying pretty close attention and it looked like they really do play only 6. They kept McDurmott in when he got his third foul with about 5:30 left in the 3rd. He pretty much went the whole way. If he ever did sit it wasn’t for long. He was worn out today. He’ll really be sucking air tomorrow midway through the 4th. If we can keep it within 10 they will wilt in the 4th. We’ll go in at halftime down by no more than 10. And then we’ll whittle it down and take over in the last 3 minutes. I say a 6 point win. -

Curious to see how big the spread is between Carter and the Dallas area 4A all stars. -

Interesting that we were almost daring them to take a three. None of them wanted the ball. Well scouted. -
Could of gone either way. Impressed with LBJ. Scrappy. Some questionable shot selection by them I’m the closing minutes was the diff. I suppose Washington makes you do that.
-
Washington got out by the hair of their…. You know the rest.
-
The big guys for Washington are worn out. Especially 11. They’re hanging in but that’s all. lbj
-
Washington really does only play6 guys.
-
2 point game. These guys remind me of somebody.
-
Lot of respect for lbj. Battling against the odds 55 - 49 with 5:12 left
-
LBJ is giving them a pretty good game but Washington is to strong inside.

Exciting night in 4A. The only sure thing is Region 2. The Dallas Area 4A All Stars are unbeatable. They chewed up 4th ranked Van Alstyne, more than doubling their score. FF could win the 5A championship. They aren't just big, they're strong and fast athletes, skilled and good shooters. Their big guys are surprisingly mobile. The only thing that can stop the All Stars from winning the championship is Covid. In Region 1 the Canyon vs. Argyle game will be a good one. These two are mirror images of each other. The winner will be in San Antonio. Our Region is impossible to call. Silsbee is the guarded favorite. I think Somerset comes out of Region 4. Somerset is playing really well. Nobody, not even FF, has had the margins they've turned in so far. They've been playing lesser teams but they've been beating those teams by the kinds of margins that indicate they are bound for San Antonio. They're better than Boerne.
-
What about LBJ? They look pretty good. They handled La Vega as well as Connally did. LBJ could be a sleeper like Silsbee was last year. The polls have them at 18 and 19.

Doesn't NFHS use the Texan Live feed when there is one?

It's very unlikely that the Tigers are going to play worse than they have the last two games. With that baseline assumed I think drive and determination will continue to carry them. Because their kind of drive and determination is not a variable. It's always there. And since the matchups aren't unreasonable I believe they'll win both games. And let's not forget that Silsbee is, after all, the favorite. Both the coaches poll and the Maxpreps robots rank the Tigers above any of the other three. The robots have actually raised us a couple of places because of playoff performance. I think they're right.
