What about next year? Call me a Pollyanna but I think it will be a good year. Losing both inside guys is tough but I think our district will be somewhat forgiving of a lack of size and possibly the Region too, if you can make up for it with athleticism. Of course it's a bunch of teams and you don't know what's coming down the pike.

The difference seems to be that Tigers are missing more opportunities than Wheatley. -

Silsbee vs Wheatley Predictions
JimThorpe replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I'm hopeful but I really don't have a clue. There are two many question marks. I wouldn't even venture to predict it will be a close game. One might beat the other by 20. -
Silsbee vs Wheatley Predictions

And that. Bridge City had an 8 point lead on the Tigers at the half in their first meeting. They started to drop in the third. Silsbee caught up and went ahead. But the Cardinals, aided by being at home, doubled back down and refused to go quietly into the night. It was a 4 point game and the closest Silsbee came to losing a district game in years. And then Vidor actually gained the lead in the third quarter last Tuesday before falling by 11. So it doesn’t have to happen. The Bridge City /Yates game could go either way. -

And there was the 3rd quarter fade. Against high energy teams the 3rd quarter and early 4th can be decisive. As far as height goes, Bridge City has a kid who’s the same height as Rice and just as agile but not quite as good. And Vidor has one that’s 6-8. He’s just a sophomore and a pretty decent player. But he’s carrying too much weight and tires easily. He has a future if he really wants it. If he develops the others in 18 will have a tough time with him. -

One thing that stands out to me is Wheatley's 27 point win over Washington in their second district game. A two games later Washington beat Yates by 21. -
The third quarter will tell the tale. In both games against Silsbee BC played a good first half but faded in the 3rd quarter. The Cardinals will have to dig really deep or the same thing will happen in this game.

Wheatley, Yates and Washington combined would make a really good 6A. Not a big 6A but fair sized and with a really good basketball program that could compete with the other Houston area 6A's. Doesn't that sound like a good plan?

Looks like Tarkington played pretty well early but faded.

This is the kind of win you really need to have in the first round.

Yes. There were two options for feed. These guys are about as objective as you can be and be the hometown guys. And there's a clock.
-
Rice just picked up his third. And then their big just picked up his third.
-
Well. It's better to be 4 points ahead than 4 points behind. But we're playing the third place team in a district with no team in the top 25. And Vidor, who played us tough last Tuesday just lost to the 4th place team. It's a hard thing to say but this game can't be this close considering what's ahead. One note. I've decided to watch the Center feed because the Texan feed HAS NO CLOCK! Plus, those guys, while partisan are kind of fun to listen to. You just have to put up with the corniest local ads imaginable.

Ouch for 20 4A. -
It's going to be uphill all the way but it's possible. There are several higher ranked teams between Silsbee and San Antonio but none in the top 5. If they get past Center tonight the game at the end of the week will tell the tale. In a way last year's graduating class can be called the Hard Luck Kids. First there was Covid. Then there was the absurd Faith Family thing. If there had been a one year offset, if they were still around this year, they'd have cruised to a Div 2 State Champion

I bugged out right before the end of the third. The parking is a nightmare and I was out in some muddy cow pasture and there was a soccer game and it was raining and the main road out was barred by construction and...... You had a feeling that though Vidor played a really good game they were going to need more than a 2 point lead to hold out. They were battling a team that's played tight games in a stadium at the highest level. I'm looking for a first round win for the Pirates. If they can play this way against the Tigers there's no excuse.
