  1. Thank goodness Mr. Elam picked this night to have his standout game. He was the difference. It's great to see him have a night like this when it mattered so much. Gotta love that. Tonight was kind of an all's well that ends well for Silsbee. Obviously the Tigers were in a funk but they did advance. A little scare now and then maybe isn't a bad thing. And this is where it ends for the Horns. They had great season and they had their moments tonight and they can hold their heads high. Interesting to see La Vega give Wheatley something of a game. That's encouraging. Washington beat Wheatley by only 12 in their last meeting. Wash led 66 - 44 going into the last stanza. Too close to pull the starters. And then Wheatley closed the gap against those starters falling 78 - 66.
  2. They’ve never been a good rebounding team. Seen them win by 50 and get out rebounded.
  3. Indeed. Made a BIG difference. Led Tiger scoring with 10.
  4. Actually being up 14 against a quality team while being so out of kilter ain’t to bad. The Horns are killing Silsbee on the boards. And they’re taking advantage on just about every Silsbee mistake.
  5. 19-14 Silsbee after one. Tigers missed about 37 two footers.
  6. If they beat Hitchcock they'll play Kountze for Region. That's my "big if" prediction.
  7. I'm wondering what the Horns might do to alter the experiment. I'm a Tigers fan so this is devil's advocate stuff. The Tigers like a fast paced game and they're streaky so don't let them be that way. Do whatever you can to break up the flow and continuity of the game. Even if it's going against your own nature. Go very slow when the clock is not running. I'm not saying go slow when the clock is running. I'm saying play with speed and high energy and use that energy to limit the number of possessions, And as I've said before sacrifice offensive rebounding for defense. Backcourt guys can't get sucked into going after careems unless it's coming right at them. Certainly if you're beyond 15' from the goal and a shot goes up don't pass go don't collect $200 but immediately start back peddling until you see you're guy get the rebound head back on defense. And no errant passes. An intercepted pass is the worst kind of turnover. It would be better to just throw the ball into the stands. A turnover that results in a back court inbounds is usually not going to result in a quick layup or open 3. And getting tied up is the best kind of turnover because you get the ball back half the time. Otherwise it's going to be that 20+ Silsbee win that everybody (including me) seems to expect. Frankly it's mathematical or like before the fact memory, something that's already happened before it's happened.
  8. What about the Horns not crashing the offensive boards in favor of getting back on defense?
  9. So what do you do with that time? Take a deep breath maybe.
  10. Attended the Silsbee game there and it's very nice. Great venue. Don't know the capacity but it's about 40 million times better than that ridiculous Bryan gym where the region tourney was last year. I assume the tourney is there again this year because the girls' was. The WOS Event Center is out at the edge of the galaxy limiting it's appeal.
  11. Didn't he play some with the JV last year?
  12. 😄 I thought that might prompt a reaction. This isn't college basketball after all is it? At the Silsbee game I attended WOS didn't have a pep band. No pep band. They had they're ENTIRE marching band, color guard and dance team at one end, drumline and all, in uniform. It was DEAFENING, like the loudest pep rally. But who can blame them? Celebrating the opening of a remarkable facility. I think we were only the second game ever played there. Hopefully that won't be the norm.
  13. Sounds good. It's a great facility. I hope both schools bring pep bands. And with that in mind I'm bringing ear protection.
  14. Silsbee by 22 but it will be closer than the score indicates. I think it will be a lot like the the game HF played against Randall. The Horns got off to a slow start but came back and it was 57 - 49 going into the 4th. Then Randall pulled away. I suspect this game will play out pretty much like that one did, with or without the slow start. HF will be put on the position of playing catch up late and that's a tough thing against a quality team. A lot depends on which Hamshire Fannett team shows up. Will it be the one that played well against the No. 3 team in the state or will it be the one that beat 4th seed Vidor by only 12? Just FYI: Consider what Randall done so far, hammering it's first two opponents by 69 then 71. Those are the widest spreads of anybody in 4A. It kind of puts HF's mere 21 pt loss into perspective.
  15. Have you seen the NFHS link? Is it basketball or a chess tournament.
  16. They better be worried about tonight. They’re the favorite but in already trying to psych the Tigers may jinx themselves.
  17. We're going to get our local game. The Horns will take this one by 10.
  18. It's not a big deal but somebody really should fix it on the UIL bracket page. 28 pt win 24 pt win, so what. The truth is that Palestine barely kept it from being a 40 point win. There were a couple of times when the dam almost broke.
