31 -23 Cards at the half. -
One thing you could do is look at what they went on to do in college and in the pros. One name comes to mind. I can tell you who was perhaps the biggest might have been and I think it's easy.... BB Davis. I watched him outplay Karl Malone on a couple of occasions, especially that particular game at the Civic Center when we all could have jumped over the roof. But for various reasons it was not to be. As an aside, Davis once caused me a bit of embarrassment at a business dinner in Marietta, Georgia. Alma maters came up and in conversation and I mentioned that I'm a Lamar grad. It turned out I was dining with a Michigan State grad. "Lamar? That's familiar..... Sure, I know Lamar! We played you guys back in......" And yes, he remembered the Dick Enberg interview. Those were the days though, weren't they? It was heady stuff, Sweet 16, top 20 ranking, defeated the reigning NCAA champion Villanova at the inaugural game of the then Montagne Center. We thought the sky was the limit. And now the arena's name's been sold to a little local credit union. I guess that too was not to be.

Not even an honorable mention for McCain?

I thought there might be but no. The Lumberton game cleared my head. There will be games with a spread of less than 20 but probably not less than 10. The most interesting game will be the final district game between the Pirates and the Tigers and that will be played in Vidor. There's a fair chance that Vidor will come into it with only 1 loss and a good chance that the Tigers will come in undefeated. When was the last time the Tigers and Vidor played for the district co-championship? Was there ever a time? Peyton is already district MVP. Lumberton held him pretty much in check but at the expense of a good part of the rest of their defense. One kid they had on him seemed to be defending him even when Lumberton had the ball.

Could the arena environment have contributed to BC's apparent flatness? -

Based on this game and the outcomes of other district games I'm revising my opinion and I now believe that Silsbee will definitely go undefeated in district. None of the other teams can stand up to the withering defense I saw tonight. If the Tigers had kept up the heat all the way to the wire it would have been around a 44 or 46 point trouncing. It's true that this wasn't quit as one sided as the 100-49 pasting the Tigers put on Lumberton last year at the Raiders gym but it was in the ballpark. Lumberton did a good job of containing Jones and they did it without too much fouling. At times they seemed to be defending him when the Raiders had the ball. Kind of like a "never let him out of your sight" thing. The Tigers are going to have to find a little more offense to go deep in the playoffs but they are more than a match for district competition. I was thinking maybe WOS at their arena or Vidor at Vidor but no, it's not going to happen. -

53 - 21 after 3. Okay. So it’s not going to be a 100 point game. But 32 points is 32 points. -

Very low scoring obviously but it’s really pretty exciting game. The reason it’s as close as it is, and it’s not that close, is that Lumbering isn’t throwing the ball away. -

If it’s within 20 it’s not too terrible. Right? That’s my thinking anyway. -

I don't think so. There's going to be at least one letdown on the road somewhere. This is a rebuilding year, or something. And when playoff time comes every game will be a challenge, even the first round. But that's okay, it's the normal cycle of things. For the Tigers a rebuilding year means only going two or three rounds deep in the playoffs. -

I think they'll be fine. After all, they were playing the 4th ranked 5A team and they're just now getting the football players back. I think they'll still win the district. They won't go undefeated and there won't be many blowouts. It will certainly be more dramatic but the end result will be the same. And that's some 5A district. No. 4, No. 6, No. 7 and No. 17. Murderers row. -

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Silsbee should hang a banner in the gym and put a trophy in the case that reads 2022 4A Provisional State Champions and another that reads 2024 4A Provisional State Champions. And Washington should do the same for 2023. The aberration has ended. Now. What about the other charter schools and to a lesser degree the magnet schools. The answer is simple and the way FF was delt with is the answer. Move them to 5A Div 1. Meaning they go 5A Div 1 irrespective of their enrollment. If they have a problem with it they need to increase their enrollment accordingly. Now don't get me wrong, I think the charter school and magnet school concepts are good and serve a purpose. For instance, the Yates Maritime Academy magnet program, in partnership with the Port of Houston is great thing. -

Silsbee High School needs to hang two banners in the gym and commission two trophies for the case. 2022 Provisional State Champions 2024 Provisional State Champions And Washington should do the same for 2023. And from now on when I refer to Silsbee's past record I'm going to say that they won the state 4A Championship in 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2024. In 22 and 24 they played and extra exhibition game after the Championship game. -

Heard the Troy Rice had surgery in the off season. Hope he's recovered. -
Same district right?

Looks about right given Hitchcock’s performance last week. Tough 3A team. That Columbus/Bellville game is interesting given that Columbus is ranked No. 1 on 3A-1 and Hitch is No. 5

I did really think that pressure would work against FF. But it kind of did. Makes me wonder if the Tigers had started a little earlier. -

The Silsbee Tigers! Your provisional AAAA 2022 and 2024 State Champions! I grant FF their 3peat and being good sports I’m sure they’ll cheerfully grant us our provisional championships. In light of circumstances it’s only fair. (and the same applies to BTW for 2023 if they so choose) The current anomaly has been apparent for some time. And now we’re rid of it.
