  1. Punxsutawney Phil must have predicted rain because it was raining 3's tonight.
  2. The defensive intensity dropped of a bit In the 2nd qtr. Has anybody else scored 26 in qtr against the Tigers?
  3. The Bulldogs last 3 games were not blowouts and 2 were close loses. Looks like something has changed.
  4. Graduation will hit the Tigers hard. Next year's district season will be more interesting.
  5. I still don’t get it. Nothing against Vidor but LCM is a mystery to me.
  6. LCM and Vidor are 2 back of Lumberton and 3 back of WOS so they're a long shot. But the loser is definitely out of it. LCM is a total puzzle to me. The contrast in the back to back Silsbee games at LCM and BC is stark. The game in Mauriceville looked like a third round playoff game. It reminded me a little of Silsbee's 3rd round win against Jacksonville last year at SFA. In Bridge City the final was 104-55 but the game wasn't really that close with the Tigers scoring a mere 10 pts in the 4th. Clearly the Tigers were flat against the Bears and Harris got into early foul trouble. To me though that doesn't explain it. Matchups are funny things.
  7. He'll have two or three games before region then. Anybody who'll hustle can contribute.
  8. It shouldn't. They know how to switch gears. Plus the other teams in the district have their moments from time to time. Vidor for instance is a surprisingly good shooting team. The Pirates shot very well tonight from the 3 pt line. If they had an open look they connected with regularity. I'd venture to say that the Tigers won't face better shooting until deep in the playoffs. Of course there wasn't much else besides the shooting. And look how well LCM played last Friday. The Tigers had an off night and Harris got in foul trouble early but still. The Bears actually lead by a few points at the end of the first quarter and were still in the game almost until the end of the 3rd. And the starters and important subs had to play the whole game.
  9. Beautiful! But that's not a gym. That's an arena. Heck we could have Region 3 finals there! Way better than College Station. But too far from the center.
  10. It was fun watching the BC student section. They were a hoot. The score was a matter of complete indifference to them. Being behind 20 something to 80 something apparently was not a factor in their thinking. They went nuts at every tiny little thing that went the Cardinals way. The ref calling a jump ball was like VJ Day for them. And there were a couple of times they cheered riotously for nothing at all, nothing at least that I could detect. The adult 3/4 of the stands was a good deal more cognizant of what was actually happening on the court and a little less exultant about the whole thing. With them it was more like, "Ouch" and "Yikes" and finally "Oh well'. Silsbee knows the feeling all too well and perhaps better remembering the Bellville game. If you've been though it there isn't much in this world that's more gratifying than winning a game on the road against a hostile crowd. Usually though there's some little note of disappointment and maybe even a hint of embarrassment in the enemy camp when the score is so lopsided. Not so here. Watching the kid section you'd have thought that BC was 50 points ahead rather than 50 points behind. No sir, they weren't going to let the fact that their guys were being run out of the gym spoil their fun. If you could have gotten their attention and said, 'Guys, look at the scoreboard." I'm sure their reply would have been something like, "Scoreboard? I don't see any scoreboard. What's a scoreboard?" Or perhaps it was just a case of managing expectations. If so it's one of the most impressive demonstrations of that science I've ever witnessed. Today I'm sure that it's ancient history for them. In the words of Ralphie, "In the jungles of kiddom, the mind switches gears rapidly."
  11. I predicted that the Tigers would be up by 30 at some point in the game and I was right They WERE up by 30.... ...on their way to being up by 60. Bridge City was simply overwhelmed. You saw the final score. It wasn't that close.
  12. For what it's worth this is the biggest game of the year in 19-4A. The sure district winner at the likely second place team's home court. Before Friday's somewhat surprising game I assumed this would be the closest anybody would come to the Tigers. I don't know what the final will be but I think Silsbee will lead by 30 at some point.
  13. That would make a respectable junior college team today.
  14. It was about to get out of hand with about 5 left in the 4th. It could have easily been 30 or even a little more, sort of like the Bridge City game. The Tigers were about to start one of their patented runs. Jeffcoat called a time out and after that, sort of by mutual consent it seemed, the two coaches called it off. The Tigers dropped back into a more or less packed zone guarding the lane and the Bears were content to pass the ball around to each other on the periphery. And that was that. I don't think anybody tried to score much for the last 2 minutes. Part of it was that Harris got his second foul early one and it looked like he was in the mood to get another. Overcompensating for the teams slow start. And as usual Winn did most of the scoring for LCM. The Bears can hold their heads up after this one. For 3 quarters they pretty much stayed with one of the best 4A teams.
  15. They don’t but it’s a game. I don’t mind the gas money to see this one.
  16. You’d figure the Tigers would pull away at some point but not so far.
  17. Harris has 2 fouls. This is a really good game. The Bears are growling. Miller is the difference.
