BC can only make the playoffs three different ways: 1. Kirbyville needs to beat Silsbee and Hamshire-Fannett (plausible) Bridge City needs to beat Hamshire-Fannett (probable) Silsbee needs to beat Jasper (probable) Orangefield needs to beat WOS (unlikely) Bridge City needs to beat WOS by at least 13 points (unlikely) If all of the above happens the district standings would be: Kirbyville 6-1, WOS 5-2, Silsbee 5-2, BC 5-2 Since WOS beat Silsbee by 7, and if they lose by 13 to BC they would have -6 points in the point differential Silsbee beat BC by 18 and lost to WOS by 7 which would give them +11 points BC lost to Silsbee by 18 and if they beat WOS by 13 they would have -5 (which would move them in to the 3rd place slot ahead of WOS). 2. Kirbyville must lose to both Silsbee and Hamshire-Fannett (unlikely) Bridge City must beat both Hamshire-Fannett and WOS (unlikely but stranger things have happened) Silsbee must beat Jasper (probable) This would leave the district standings as WOS 6-1, Silsbee 6-1, BC 5-2, Kirbyville 4-3 and Bridge City would be in the playoffs 3. Silsbee must lose to Kirbyville and Jasper (possible) Kirbyville must beat Hamshire-Fannett (probable) Bridge City must beat both Hamshire-Fannett and WOS (unlikely but possible) This would leave the district standings as WOS 6-1, Kirbyville 6-1, BC 5-2, Silsbee 4-3 and Bridge City would be in the playoffs. Out of all of the scenarios the 3rd one seems the most likely out of the three but I wouldn't bet on any of them. The worst thing that BC could have happen is to end up in any kind of tiebreaker with Kirbyville and/or Silsbee since they would automatically lose it having lost to both teams. No matter what happens, the 3rd place playoff team won't be determined until the very last week. If WOS wins next week over Orangefield they will clinch a spot, and whichever team wins the Kirbyville-Silsbee showdown will be in as well.

How far Will The Mustangs Go In The Playoffs?
WOS87 replied to wos pride's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Hutto, Gilmer, Palestine and Carthage will all almost definitely go Division I (with Hutto, Palestine and Carthage all having to face each other in just the first two rounds). Wimberley, WOS, Cuero, and Giddings will most likely be the major contenders in the bottom half of the bracket in Division II, with Sweetwater, Celina and Dallas Madison the standouts in the top half. Most likely alternate possibilities: Giddings would go Division I if Bellville loses to both Caldwell and LaGrange, which is pretty unlikely.... but a possibility. Wimberley would go Division I if 0-7 Ingram Moore beats currently 2-5 Bandera when they meet in Week 10. Hutto would most likely go to Division II if Taylor beats Cameron Yoe today. A WOS vs. Celina final is a definite possibility 3A Division I Playoff Projection using this weeks Massey ratings REGION I Ft Stockton vs. BYE Andrews vs. Lubbock Cooper Canyon vs. Burkburnett Abilene Wylie vs Decatur REGION II Prosper vs. Royse City Dallas Roosevelt vs. Kennedale Mabank vs. Brownsboro Gilmer vs. Liberty-Eylau REGION III Gatesville vs. Hutto Palestine vs. Carthage Silsbee vs Splendora Bellville vs. Needville REGION IV Bandera vs. La Vernia Pleasanton vs. Hondo Gonzales vs. Ingleside Zapata vs. Hidalgo 3A Division II Playoff Projection using this weeks Massey ratings REGION I Monahans vs. BYE Midland Greenwood vs. Brownfield Perryton vs. Vernon Sweetwater vs. Argyle Clint vs. BYE Snyder vs. Seminole Dalhart vs. Iowa Park Breckenridge vs. Sanger REGION II Celina vs. Commerce Dallas Madison vs. Glen Rose Crandall vs. Canton Spring Hill vs. Pittsburg Pilot Point vs. Emory Rains Lake Worth vs. West Kaufman vs. Van Gladewater vs. Atlanta REGION III Robinson vs. Cameron Yoe Madisonville vs. Rusk West Orange-Stark vs Shepherd Giddings vs. Sweeny China Spring vs. Liberty Hill Palestine Westwood vs. Crockett Kirbyville vs. Coldspring La Grange vs. Wharton REGION IV Wimberley vs. Marion Medina Valley vs. Crystal City Cuero vs. Sinton Raymondville vs. Port Isabel Llano vs. Luling Lytle vs. Devine Yoakum vs. Orange Grove Falfurrias vs. Rio Hondo -

By far for me it's gotta be the cold, drizzly loss in the 1988 Finals against huge underdog Paris in College Station preventing the 3-peat... followed by the 1985 Regional Semifinals loss against all-time great Houston Yates as the nighttime game of a doubleheader in the Astrodome. Going into the 4th quarter we had Yates tied 6-6 and were ahead 4-1 on penetrations. We were so close you could taste the upset...

Everyone's thoughs on 4 Teams going in 5A??
WOS87 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The percentage of 5A schools making the playoffs this year with 4 teams per district qualifying will still be lower than the percentage of 3A teams that made it last year with only 3 teams per district qualifying. In 2006 there will be 246 total 5A schools in UIL football competition 32 districts x 4 teams per district = 128 qualifying teams 128/246 = 52.03% of all 5A teams will make the playoffs this coming year In 2005 there were 183 total 3A schools 32 districts x 3 teams per district = 96 qualifying teams 96/183 = 52.46% of all 3A teams made the playoffs last year The increase to 4 teams per district in 5A is not going to "dilute the field" any worse than it already had been before... there will still be the same number of 5A champs declared and if anything it's more fair as 5A teams will have closer to the same chance of making the playoffs as teams in the lower classifications. It appears that the UIL is considering the idea of eliminating the 2 champs per class sytem and just increasing the total number of classifications by the way I noticed that they've divided the 6-man teams into not just Division I and II playoff brackets, but Division I and II districts. They've essentially divided 6-man into two different classifications. I can see that as a possibility in the future for the larger classes. The 2006 season should be an initial litmus test to see which system gets the best response between the 4 team per district 5A and the 2 team per district but 2 classification 6-man setup. -
SETXsports Ranks as the #1 HS Sports Website in Texas!!
WOS87 replied to jdawg03's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That is awesome! :thumbsup Not to be a downer (but hopefully to avoid overconfidence and complacency) you have to realize that Alexa.com only uses the last 3 months of activity in compiling their rankings which is probably why this site has done so well compared to many other sites. This is one of the few sites that doesn't focus primarily on football, and with the coverage we've had here of the area baseball and softball races, and with the success several local teams have had, it doesn't surprise me that we've done well. The real test will be on how the site does from now through December when the football season gets going. You can adjust the data at the alexa website to show numbers going back 1 year or 2 years and you can see that several of the sites listed above that we're currently ranked ahead of have had huge numbers of traffic during football season and then drop off of the charts the rest of the year. -
Question... why did PNG advance if Baytown Lee won all 3 games in that pool?

The history of the openings, closings and merging of Beaumont High Schools is a bit convoluted but as far as the history of schools that fielded varsity teams in the UIL it essentially goes like this: Originally Beaumont had two school districts: South Park ISD and Beaumont ISD with 1 high school in each district, South Park (Greenies) and Beaumont High (Royal Purples). Beaumont High fielded football teams at least as early as 1910 and South Park at least as early as 1912. On the north side of town a 3rd school district slowly was growing (French ISD) and in 1926 French High School (Buffaloes) joined in. French ISD consolidated with Beaumont ISD in 1948. In 1953 a new French High School campus was built which is currently the Central 9th Grade Campus building. South Park ISD also had a segregated school for blacks that can trace it's history back to the 1800's, but in 1922 the school got a brand new building which became Hebert High School (Panthers) and which remained officially segregated for 45 years. Hebert competed in the PVIL (Prairie View Interscholastic League) which was the segregated equivalent of the UIL until federal law forced all PVIL schools be admitted to the UIL in the late 1960's. South Park ISD grew in population over the years and in the early 1960's opened a 3rd high school - Forest Park High School (Trojans), which fielded it's first varsity UIL teams in 1962. It was located where the current West Brook High School is. Hebert joined the UIL in 1967 but remained pretty much completely segregated due to the demographics of the area until a federal court forced predominantly black Hebert to merge with predominantly white Forest Park and form West Brook High School (Bruins) in 1982. Over in BISD, there was a 2nd segregated all-black school - Charlton-Pollard High School (Bulldogs) of which I'm not clear on the history but I do know it had it's first graduating class in 1901 and at some point they also competed in the PVIL until they joined the UIL in 1967. In 1975 there was a merger that most people seem to forget because the lack of a major name change was confusing, but the original old Beaumont High merged with Charlton-Pollard High to form Beaumont-Charlton-Pollard High (Cougars). After the opening of West Brook the next major change was in 1984 when South Park ISD was absorbed into BISD and in 1986 South Park High School closed (it's now South Park Middle School) and the student body merged with West Brook with no change in name or mascot. The same year, French High School merged with Beaumont-Charlton-Pollard High and the new Central High School (Jaguars) was opened. The most recent change was in 1998 when Ozen High School (Panthers) opened drawing students from both West Brook and Central. A simple timeline of active UIL schools in Beaumont over the years would look like this: 1910's-1925 Beaumont High, South Park 1926-1961 Beaumont High, South Park, French 1962-1966 Beaumont High, South Park, French, Forest Park 1967-1974 Beaumont High, South Park, French, Forest Park, Charlton-Pollard, Hebert 1975-1981 South Park, French, Forest Park, Hebert, Beaumont-Charlton-Pollard 1982-1985 South Park, French, West Brook, Beaumont-Charlton-Pollard 1986-1997 West Brook, Central 1998-present West Brook, Central, Ozen
