  1. I will make NO excuses... The two opponents which I have feared the most since dropping to 4A 22 years ago have ALWAYS been FIRST Silsbee and SECOND Jasper.... Silsbee won the game in my mind, they were the better team in my opinion, they just happened to have lost on paper. Good luck to the Tigers against Navasota in the 2nd round of the playoffs... I'm thinking you have a definite chance.
  2. This loss breaks a 38 consecutive district game winning streak for them and it's also the first regular season loss for SLC against a Texas team since 2001
  3. I've got a killer day at work today (25+ patients to see) but I'll see what I can come up with later tonight
  4. Back in '95 we ran into two tough foes on our way to a state championship...one being C.E.King (7-0 score) and the next was WOS (18-7 score). Those earlier round games for us were far tougher then the teams on the road thereafter. Other than those 2 games the lowest point total allowed from an opposing defense was 29 points the entire season. I think both WOS or C.E. King could have won the title that year! > > > WO-S was winning that game with 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter Click here for pregame coverage #1 (Part I) --- (Part II) Click here for pregame coverage #2 RESULT: La Marque 18, West Orange-Stark 7 WO-S vs La Marque coverage #1 - PDF (Part I) --- (Part II) WO-S vs La Marque coverage #2 (Part I) --- (Part II)
  5. didnt they beat the Kendall Cleveland led team back in the day? We beat C.E. King in '87 in the Regional round and then got beat by them 3 years consecutively in the Bi-District round in '89, '90 and '91 with '91 being the only year in which it wasn't a major upset
  6. The only team I would NOT want to face come playoff time for WO-S would be C.E King (no matter how good or bad they are. It's the only team against whom we currently have a 3 game losing streak).... Luckily they are not in our classification!! ;D
  7. Looks like WO-S has moved to #1 in two of the rankings now (Massey and MaxPreps) 1. West Orange-Stark 42.3 2. Burkburnett 41.5 3. Liberty Hill. 41.0 4. Sweetwater 40.8 5. Bridgeport 40.7 6. Gilmer 38.2 7. Abilene Wylie 37.9 8. Bellville 37.9 9. Navasota 37.8 10. China Spring 36.3 11. Diboll 36.1 12. Waco La Vega 35.7 13. Monahans 34.6 14. Cuero 32.3 15. Argyle 31.2 16. 9. I can guarantee they won't be after this week's ratings come out.... the ratings that are currently listed are still last weeks.
  10. Hmmm.... The 1st prediction in 3A has WO-S losing to Gilmer in the Region III D2 Quarterfinals which is pretty much an impossibility unless either WO-S or Gilmer goes into the D2 playoffs as a runnerup... (the most likely scenario is that WO-S would meet the winner of Gilmer and Waco La Vega in the Regional Semis IF all three end up as district champs and there are no major upsets). The 2nd prediction has WO-S making it all the way to the D2 State Finals and losing to Liberty Hill.... DCTF hasn't been the biggest fan of WO-S for the past 4 years so I'm a bit surprised that we're picked to do as well as we are
  11. I had Bellville #1 in my power ratings last week... Week 4 Bellville 33 Brookshire-Royal 8 Week 5 WO-S 33 Brookshire-Royal 7 Liberty Hill was ranked #1 in the Massey Ratings this past week with WO-S #2 Click here ---> LINK Liberty Hill BARELY won over a mediocre (1-5) Burnet team 36-29 so there's a VERY good chance WO-S could move to #1 in the Massey Ratings this coming week and they should move up in most of the others as well
  12. Dodge and UNT just gave up 77 points to Rice U (Rice's largest scoring total since 1916) so his name is probably NOT at the top of many coaching recruiter's lists
  13. I found the front page of the news after the big storm of 1915 hit and posted the link above. It really demonstrates what a difference the seawall makes. The following list was released prior to Ike, which I'm sure will rank somewhere within the top 10. That will make Galveston the site of landfall of 3 of the 10 costliest hurricanes to hit the U.S. Costliest U.S. Atlantic hurricanes Total estimated property damage, adjusted for wealth normalization (according to Pielke et al. 14. Still looks like it's heading to Houston. I'm gonna have a heck of a weekend coming up. :-[
  15. WOS 10, WB 7 in a repeat of the classic 1984 upset
  16. I'm stuck here in Houston for the long haul as I have to be there for the hospital I work at as well. Not looking good for Houston from the last couple of updates....

  18. Not strange to me... And that includes Newton's 1998 3A State Champions, whom the Mustangs shutout 10-0 This will be WO-S' first game ever against a 2A team (if it's actually played...)

  20. I am not gonna say anything that I possibly could regret but I will say a couple of things... WO-S hasn't lost a regular season game to a school with a smaller enrollment other than Jasper since 1983. 2006 WOS 46 Kirbyville 16 2007 WOS 6 LCM 0 WOS 31 Kirbyville 7 2008 WOS 48 LCM 7 WOS ? Kirbyville ?
  21. The 1938 storm that hit Long Island, Connecticut and Rhode Island has to rank up there
  22. The AP Poll has not been very kind to Southeast Texas in the larger classifications in the past few years, probably due to the lack of State titles.... I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else, so if you don't know, that 50-7 win over Ozen ranks as Ozen's biggest margin of defeat in their 10+ year history, surpassing Dayton's 48-6 win over them in 2006.

  24. Nederland went 3 and out more times than I could count... WO-S moved the ball pretty much at will but penalties and fumbles held them back a bit
  25. Who are these announcers??! They have predicted that no local team from 3A or 4A will make it out of the 1st round of the playoffs?? A few corrections to their on-air comments.... WO-S has in fact won 27 consecutive district games... Nederland lost to Dayton 0-63 last year
