Matthew Oubre won 7th place in the shot put, bringing home a medal for that event. He placed 10th in the discus just missing a medal by 5 inches. What a wonderful season it was for Matthew. Well now it's on to football for him and beginning his Freshman year at Dayton.

Matthew Oubre from Dayton competed in the USA Track & Field Region 12 Meet this past week. He won the discus with a throw of 143' 9" and placed second in the shot put with a throw of 47' 7.25". He will be going on to compete at the Junior Olympics in North Carolina at the end of July. The Region 12 meet is also considered to be the Texas State Championship for USATF. Matthew competes in the Youth Division (13 & 14 year olds). GOOD LUCK AT JUNIOR OLYMPICS MATTHEW OUBRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to the UIL website there are 240 4A schools that participate in Texas high school football in 32 different districts. Each district sends 4 teams to the playoffs, 64 teams go to D1 and 64 teams go to D2. In the end only 4 teams out of 240 (which is roughly 1.67% of the total 4A teams in the state) can say that they were playing football this last week. All four teams have played one more game than anyone else in 4A. Sulphur Springs and Lake Travis scored more points in the games but Dayton and Longview also played in the games. How many team can say this? Only 4! Lake Travis - State Champion Sulphur Springs - State Champion Longview - State Finalist Dayton - Sate Finalist All four have a title to bring home.

I played against Gary Kubiak in 1977, when he was a senior and I was a sophomore. He was smart, strong, fast and could throw a football like a bullet coming out of a gun. I gained a lot of respect for him and still have it to this day. He ended up being All-American 2 years in high school and was All-American again at A&M. He may have beat my team for the state championship but he is still one of my all-time favorite football players.

I seem to remember a bet being made last year on a similar game (something about not posting for a period of time), maybe that would work this time, in the event this game does take place. Maybe it will keep the board from heating up so much. Just a thought!

The only way Lumberton wins the district outright is if they beat Nederland AND Vidor beats Livingston. If Lumberton and Livingston both win then it can only be a Co-Championship. With both teams having the same record there can not be an outright champion. It goes back to Team #1 beat Team #2 which beat Team #3 which beat Team #1 which beat team #2 ............... Wow this sounds familiar.

If those coaches were so successful then why did they leave???? I think they are coaching this year's 7th grade bunch... Sounds like they want them to coach the 8th grade bunch. From the looks of it Eagles2013 is one of the 8th graders anyway!!!

I would just like to point out that an 11 point margin is not a whipping. Those were actually 2 close games last year.

I work in the Houston area and can pick them up when I am in Houston. I think that they suffered some damage from "Ike" and they are not fully functional yet. That is just a guess.
