Besides, if you think football parents are crazy and hammer the coaches and officials, go to a high school soccer game, you'll quickly change your mind. [/quote] Youth soccer is played in the fall, which can be pretty miserable when it rains, particularly down by the Port of Orange where the fire ants try using your legs as high ground. High school soccer is late winter/spring (which can be miserable too) so its too early to complain about not being supported. If football players aren't going to run track, soccer is a great sport to get into for conditioning.  It's also good for learning to take angles on the offensive player.
  2. And I thought LCM played Cleveland last night, not Tarkington. Silly me. Also, I kinda think it was Zach Sonnier who caught those passes. Typical Beaumont Enterprise reporting. What game were they at last night?
  3. LOL...LCM has more of everybody on varsity than WOS does. I was merely commenting that it is strange for WOS to have sophomores playing on varsity, and especially that many. Looked to me that both teams had about the same number of people dressed to play. I counted 33 dressed to play for LCM.
  4. The quarterback. I had to do it, admin. ;D No wildcat plays????
  5. I can tell you what we have for sure... A 3rd year starting QB who can sling it, a stable full of good wideouts, and a very capable running back in Grant Lovelady. Outside of that, I am not sure what to expect! Also a good group of sophomores. How many are expected to be on varsity?
  6. Depending on how close together they were, a playoff-bound team (or potential playoff team) might have an advantage come play-offs having three games left instead of just one.
  7. Gonzales from LCM is a good athlete, but if he had good athletes around him as you say then they would have won at least one game last year. Don't be a homer. I am from PNG and would love to tout a PNG combo because they will throw much more next year and have two good WR in DeRon and Segura returning, but facts are facts, the QB spot is a question mark and lacking in experience. I would have to say the Bellows to Brady combo because of experience, let alone talent, will be tops in 20-4A. Don't bash the players at LCM. There were more than enough good athletes and talent to win at least one game, if not more. I think you really underestimate just how bad the former head "coach" was.
  8. How's the field looking? They did cover it didn't they?
  9. And you did a good job. Thank you, and all of the other umpires, for being there. I though all of the umpires did a good job (and because LCM won!).
  10. And LCM. Oh well, it is the Beaumont Enterprise.
  11. How many freshmen and sophomores are on varsity and who are they? How many freshmen and sophomores are starters?
  12. I guess you think there would be no politics in PONY? : Their are politics everywhere, you have to be here to understand what I am talking about. Little League needs to change their rules or pretty soon they will be obsolete. They will continue to lose kids to pony or select. There is more to the game than just standing on a base after you walk or get a hit. I disagree totally. PONY rules allow stolen bases at will for the younger players. I get sick of seeing a walk and two stolen bases(all the while the batter has the bat on his shoulder waiting until the runner gets to third.) No force outs at second, no double plays, and a pitcher who is just fighting to get the ball over the plate while all this is going on. It's a lot further from real baseball than little league. My opinion, for what's its worth. My kids played Pony baseball. With that in mind: For Mustang (9 & 10 yo in Pony), close the bases (no leads, like Little League). Its hard enough for kids learning to pitch to get the ball over the plate consistently without having to learn how to hold a runner on. For Bronco (11 & 12 yo), keep it as it is (allow leads, etc). I will acknowledge that for the more talented select teams, 9 & 10 yo can do a good job of holding runners at first. For the average league player though it can be a bit of a challenge. Just my opinion.
  13. Yeah thats what I thought too....Why do some always have to bring attention to ones spelling ??? We all knew what he meant....May God bring peace over you who have issues with mispelled words ;D Offense is the American spelling; offence, the British. He's just using the Queen's English, that's all.
  14. Was that really the reason? My understanding as to why Jake went to Angelina instead of McNeese was because the (head) coach who recruited him left.
  15. Are they no longer roster batting?
  16. It's tough to NOT play on Saturday's if you're trying to schedule 2 games a week for all teams and you have more than 8 teams in the league (division) and only one field for that league. With eight teams, you can play 2 games each weekday (Mon, Tue, Thur and Fri afternoon/evenings) and all teams get two games in that week. In the past, in OYBS, in Shetland (5&6 yo) and Pinto (7&8) we've had as many as 16 teams. One year in Mustang (9&10) we had 14 teams and in Bronco (11&12) we had 12 teams. Again, tough to schedule games and avoid the weekend.
  17. Bolton was there during the mid '90's during some of LCM's more successful years in football.
  18. You know, its not just the number of returning players that are coming back that matters, it also matters what positions they play. Quarterback, receiver and running back positions should be in fairly good shape, however I'm concerned about the line. In 2007, the entire starting O-line were juniors until injuries and illnesses took a couple of them out (center and guard). Seago (sp?) was a backup (by design) tackle who played some guard and Viator was forced to play center some. The inexperience of an all junior line (all first-year varsity too) showed. This year should have been an all-senior line with all having one year of varsity experience until two of them quit. Only one or two juniors got any significant playing time. Bottom line, only one or two O-linemen next year will have any appreciable varsity game experience. Next year the line will need to rely on either this year's juniors who didn't play much if at all and on players from the JV squad. Whoever fills those positions next year need to be hitting the weight room and the track now if they really want to be able to step it up next year. The line wasn't particularly blessed with size this year (largest lineman was 6-1, 225, a couple of others were at 200 lbs) and it won't get better next year. If there is anyone as big or bigger, they are considerably slower. Pretty much the same story on the defensive side of the line. This past year there was a dedicated group of players who were committed to working out on a regular basis, unfortunately there just weren't enough of them. Hopefully the new coach will be successful in convincing more players (like all of them) of the need to improve their speed, explosion and strength.
  19. 77's not the only one who's got it figured out!
  20. So in other words, by your numbers, next year the team will have as many Seniors and Juniors as they did this year. How does that make it any more significantly different than this past year? Skip, who do you project to be the starting Offensive and Defensive linemen?
  21. NO. I'm asking the LCM fans who they ould want as coach. :
  22. I wonder how many of the 43 votes were from WOS fans hoping to "unload" their OC?
  23. And who are "most of the fans" that like this OC? You keep talking like everyone at LCM wants this guy. I've got a couple of kids in the program at LCM and I'm telling you nobody is even talking about him. I don't know why you guys keep wanting to pawn him off on somebody else. All he's ever done is help WOS win games. If you think that its because of him that you don't go more than 2 or 3 deep in the playoffs, take a look at your $3.00 programs for the size of your players. WOS has players with tremendous athleticism but when you get that deep in the playoffs, in addition to speed and athleticism, it helps to have some size. 185 lb linemen don't cut it when the other team has 240 lb linemen with the same speed, quickness and agility.
  24. It would have to snow in SE Texas before I would even consider it!
