The Bears beat Porter in the second game 5-1. Bears were visitors. Top of the 1st. Bears had a runner at 2nd. Ball is hit in the infield and the runner at second tries for 3rd. Ball is thrown to 3rd, runner slides and is called safe by Gutshot who is now on the bases. Bears catch a break on the call. The Porter coach protests a little too vigorously and is asked to confine his activities to the dugout. Runner eventually scores putting Bears up 1-0. Porter ties the came in the bottom of the 2nd 1-1. Top of the 4th Brandon Humphrey doubles on a rainmaker which fortunately didn't actually bring any rain. Shea Richards singles and goes to 2nd on the throw back into the infield. Connor Jaynes (running for Humphrey) slips on the wet grass after rounding 3rd and twists his knee. He did get back to third but had to leave the game. Hopefully he will be alright. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Kevin Adams hits a line drive into centerfield that the centerfielder dove for and missed. Kevin circles the bases and the Bears go up 4-1. In the top of the 7th Ryan Carline singles and then steals 2nd. He scored on James Swan's single. Humphrey strikes out the side to end the games. Bears win 5-1. -

A couple of interesting games for the Bears today. Reid Fults, Ryan Carline and Brandon Humphrey were outstanding on the mound today. Bear pitching struck out 13 Caney Creek batters and 11 Porter batters. For the most part the defense was solid. Zach Droulliard and Ryan Carline made some great catches in the outfield while Alex Blem made an outstanding sliding catch on a foul ball in front of the dugout. LCM beat Caney Creek 3-2 and Porter 5-1. Some highlights, first game against Caney Creek. In the bottom of the 1st, Ryan Carline hits a 3B and goes all the way home on an error. In the top of the second with one out, the second CC batter hits a double but gets called out for batting out of order. He then goes back to the plate where he K's for the third out. In the bottom of the second the Caney Creek catcher misses the pitch which hits the umpire who double over. An obviously annoyed and hurting umpire asks the catcher in a loud voice "what are you doing". Inaudible answer from the catcher but the umpire demands that the lights be turned on. Umpire earns the nickname "Gutshot". Greg Maddux was pitching for Caney Creek. Or at least I thought he was. Umpire kept calling pitches that were 6 inches below the knees and 6 inches off the plate strikes. The Caney Creek pitcher WAS consistent like Greg Maddux in that aspect though. He did pitch a very good game and went all 8 innings. In the top of the 3rd CC ties the game at 1-1 on a BB and a 2B. In the top of the 8th, CC player hits a triple then later scores. CC goes up 2-1. In the bottom of the 8th with 1 out, James Swan gets HBP. Zach Droulliard hits a hard ground ball to the 3rd baseman who can't handle it, so we have runners on 1st and 2nd. During the pitch sequence to Reid Fults the catcher decides to try and pick off Swan at 2nd base and proceeds to throw the ball into centerfield. Somehow the ball got past the centerfielder when he came in to get the overthrow. The ball then traveled halfway to the fence (ball was thrown harder than it look). Swan scored. Droulliard was waved on at third and scored all the way from first. The catcher decided to completely block home plate at the last second even though he didn't have the ball and looked really aggravated when Droulliard collided with him. Umpire tells catcher to chill out. Bears win 3-2. -

LCM beat Rudder 12-11. Instead of melting down in the later innings we got it out of the way in the top of the 1st by giving up 8 runs. We scored 2 in the bottom of the 3rd. We gave up 1 run in the top of the 4th and 2 in the top of the 5th. We scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 5th to go up 12-11 and held Rudder scoreless in the top of the 6th. The game then ended on time. Dillon Young came in to pitch at the start of the 2nd inning, had another great outing and go the win. Shea Richards did a great job too and got the save by pitching the 6th. A good way to end a tough tournament. The Bears could have easily have finished the bracket play 3-1 but were unable to hang on for the wins. Hopefully they learned a lot from this that pays off in the end.
A tournament like this will only make you better. LCM should be just fine once district play starts. The thing I noticed that seperated them from a winning team, is that they crumbled when things got tough, instead of fighting back, it just seemed like they didn't want to be there. By the Lamar game, they looked like they were already back at the hotel. They came out and played great against one of the best teams in the state, so that shows that the talent is there. They just have to use it, and not unravel.
I think the Rudder game shows that they do have the ability to hang tough and fight back. I can guarantee you that they do want to be there and play. Unfortunately, in two of our losses in bracket play the big innings we gave up were late in the game and we ran out of innings (or time) to come back. Lamar threw one heck of a pitcher against us and we struggled to do much against him. I think we only got 2 hits. We gave up 3 runs in the first inning of that game and none the next two. Starting the fourth inning we put in a freshman pitcher to gain some experience followed by another pitcher who is just now starting to get varsity experience. In the games that we had the bad innings it did seem that the errors came in bunches. We did play a lot of really good innings defensively. We probably led the game in the majority of the innings we played. Hopefully the boys will realize the areas of opportunity for improvement and get better and focus on the things that they did well and gain confidence. They should realize that they can hang with the best in the state, they just have to learn how to close the deal. -
Is Dillon Young still on the bump? If so, he is doing a great job.
Dillon pitched great. Very impressive. Fielded his position well too. -
Heard LCM won 7 to 3.
That is correct. James Swan had 2 HR, 6 RBI's for the night. Bears made contact with the ball tonight but hits were hard to come by. Alex Blem was 2-2, Fults, Carline, Garza had hits. There were others but unfortunately I don't recall who. Garza had the remaining RBI.

Both LCM and Silsbee hit the ball well today. Nice display of power considering the cold and the BBCOR bats. -
You beat one of the best pitchers in SETEX. Give your kids some credit. Would you have rather beat some scrub?
I give our players a lot of credit. It was you who was slighting not only our pitchers by not recognizing their capabilities (in this case Kody specifically) but our hitters as well. As a wise man once said, "That's all I'm going to say about that". Yesterday is history, on to the next round. -
Because Seeley can flat out pitch. He gives lee an advantage in any one game series.
Kody Smith can flat-out pitch too! Looks like someone forgot to tell Blem and Droulliard about Lee's advantage.
