Dear Father in heaven, I praise and thank You for using the sport of Football to draw me closer to You. I want to play this game so it is not about me, but all about You. I need Your Spirit to be in total control of my thoughts, actions, emotions and words. Help me not to worship the sport, but to be thankful for the skills and interests you have given me and to use them for Your glory. Help me also to encourage my teammates toward growth and maturity with You. Guide our coaches in making wise choices and help them be the kind of leaders You want them to be. Please keep all players free from injury, according to Your will, and bring healing to those injured. Lord, I trust You to renew my strength in times of weakness so that You will be glorified in everything I do. Help me to praise You in victory and defeat. I love You and thank you for your love for us. I pray these things in Jesus name, Amen! Have a great season and stay safe.  Lets Go Pirates and all the young men for the up coming season.
I know this young man, and I'm honored to have him represent the Vidor Pirates, he's a young man of character that has his Priorities right and is respected by teammates and coaches alike. His prayer expresses an unconquerable spirit, real humility, strength of character and true sportsmanship. May GOD Bless each young men that step on the field and keep an arm of protection around them. Thanks for the post TITAN POWER!!!
Thanks for the kind words.  His mother and I are very proud of the man and leader he has become.  Just like the rest of the Pirates football team,  they will represent our school and town with honor and pride.

If any coach relies on the opinions of the Saturday morning coaches on sites like this to make his desision he has problems. My point is as long as no one gets personal and it is just a matter of " Player A is taller and can chunk the ball a mile but player  B is a year older,  has quick feet and played TB last year so he knows the offense" why is that made out to be bashing and disrespecting a coaches authority. He who has not questioned a coaches sanity shall cast the first stone!
First of all please do not compare this to the post of last year. I did not name any names or bash any kid. I simply posted a question asking what everyone thought about a question I had. I know that I worded it wrong and I realize this now and I quickly fixed it and rephrased the question. And I am in no way saying that I am going to be the one who decides what player is going to be in the QB position. I am simply trying to start some friendly chatter amoung Vidor fans. That is all. Now can we please get back to the conversation without it causing any further conflict. Like kville68 said i just people's opinions and thats it.
You already have named names in another thread.  Just a matter of time until you do it here.

 6. But I have no inkling on who's who. Ya'll dont throw the ball that much, goin on the stats I read in the Enterprise last year, so arm strength shouldn't be too much of an issue. That being said, whoever comes outta practice with a better grasp of the offense should start.
Thanks for your opinion. But from what i've heard matthews is trying to throw in a few plays with the spread. Not like last year where we did it when we absolutely had nothing else and they were stopping the slot t offense. I think i saw it once maybe twice but don't quote me. I think it would be a great idea to rotate them in as well. The youngin has an arm on him that is something else. And the senior has a good head on his shoulders and would be a great asset on offense. I think we should rotate them out when the youngin throwing in the spread and the senior running the slot t. But thats just my opinion.
Answer me this.... What sense does it make  to  let  the defense know what you are doing by changing from the wing/slot t to the spread so you can  use both QBs.  Kinda takes away from the surprise factor doesn’t it.  There are plenty of pass plays you can run out of the wing/slot T with the QB under center or out of the shot gun.  Not to mention the most important thing,  the completely different blocking responsibilities there are from the spread to the slot.  (We do not have the personal to run the spread) Probably a good way to get whatever QB the coaches decide on to get killed.  I wasn’t trying to leave any real feedback on this forum topic because of were it might go, but [glow=red,2,300]REALLY[/glow].  The COACHES will decide what is best for the Pirates this season.

I'm sure 2cents didn't intend for the thread to go in that direction, and thanks to the good judgment of the posters it didn't......but that is exactly what can happen when you pit one player against another for a particular position.
I think most defenses in the district have a game plan to stop Vidor's slot-t offense right now, so it's up to the OC to counter that defensive game plan and ad some variance to his offense, for instance if the OC figure's out that the defense is playing an assignment type defense then a good OC will figure out the defensive assignments and adjust his blocking schemes accordingly. I think most folks would agree that Vidor needs to put the ball in the air more in order to keep the defenses from stacking the box, this is a function of talent and practice more than anything else, in other words do you have decent Receivers. I believe Vidor does, secondly can your QB throw the ball..since I don't know who the QB will be I can't answer that question right now, but more importantly does the OL have the talent/technique to protect that QB. If the Pirates would practice on the O-lines ability to protect and the Quarter backs ability to throw, then they would know the types of throws that will work, hey folks it don't have to look pretty, (you don't win a game on style points) it just needs to be a completion, I would like to see Vidor throw some screens, play actions, boots and sprint outs, or maybe just a few pop passes and quick's from their veer sets. The quality of the passing game is more important than the quantity of passes thrown! Keep It simple.....The more efficient you are, the more you move the chains and score points! GO PIRATES!!!
Great Post...  Hopefully the QB situation will be cleared up soon.  Of the two they are working with, one has a better arm and the other has more speed.  Either way the coaches go these boys can run the offense. Good Luck PIRATES

Mathews is 54-66 overall at Vidor thats about a 45% win Pct. (if my math is correct) So somebody help me out here what's the problem, is it the coach, the talent level, the offensive scheme, (I've been in Vidor long enough to know before they started runing the slot-t they ran a spread) or all the above. I know these kids and trust me they practice hard and most of them (I can't speak for every player) believe than can win every time they step on the field, as for the coaches from what I know, they believe in their players and the system they have in place. Maybe it's tradition, when a kid plays on a team that has a winning tradition he feels like he's inherited a legacy, almost like a birthright he can live up to and that benefits him. Vidor doesn't have that winning tradition, but I know a few young men who are determined to change that.
You better watch what you are fishing for,  cause your not going to like what you catch.
I think Vidor will do better in district play this year. I'm looking for a 4-3 or better district record. The one big question mark is who will be starting QB? If the O-line holds up the backs they have CAN move the ball. The defense last year was made up mostly of first year starters, so I look for those young men to improve after a year of varsity level play under their belts. I think the Pirates come into this season with a lot more experience and maturity, and are demanding more of themselves than a 2-5 district season.
Shhhhh yall gotta be quiet about vidor. We were supposed to be the cinderella team this year. Oh well. Looks like our cover is blown. Since its too late i guess i might as well put my two cents in. I think yall are way underestimating vidor. They have all 3 running backs coming back from last year. One who made the allstar team and had, if my memory is right, the 3rd highest yardage in the district. And two others who are explosive and if they break out are hard to catch. The only question will be the QB but i have heard thru the rumor mill that we have a new prospect were looking at. The JV QB from last year is about 5'6 and has no experience but they guy were talking about is about 6'1 i'd say about 190 and a senior who has been on varsity for two years and who also has experience in the position as QB. Our defense is set with 7 of our starters from last year returning and most of them underclassmen who still have this year and next. Mark my words. Vidor sneaks in a playoff spot as the cinderella team and may make a run in the playoffs.
Who is this?
TITAN POWER I was told that AP had the starting position this year, but you would know that better than me. If it's true, he has what it takes to lead the Pirate offense.
It should be interesting to see.  He does know the offense but unless he plays both sides of the ball it leaves a hole in the defense.  I guess we will have to wait and see.  Hopefully the Pirates  have a good season this year.
