  1. Most of these Silsbee kids have been running since they were big enough to hold and dribble a basketball. It wont be an issue. The only issue Silsbee will have is bad shooting. That will do Silsbee in and nothing else. If they play Yates like they did the last district game against Bridge City, Yates wins. If they play North Forrest tonight like the did their last district game it may go bad for them. I'm sure NF will be looking for some payback.
  2. Dallas Lincoln lost 15 games and won state year before last. Records aren't everything. Silsbee can't hang with the top dogs in 6A this year. I'll admit to that, even if they were missing a lot of players for that first Wagner game. They played like crap against Duncanville and deserved that butt kicking. They've played better defense ever since that game. Center is the only loss Silsbee has this year that I'm actually a little concerned about. That's another 4A team that could potentially take us down.
  3. Yates can go ahead and try to press against Bush and Adams if they want if the game happens. We'll see how that works out for them. Their schedule has been pretty weak this year from the looks of things. I guess they didn't like getting embarrassed by Sam Houston last year. How'd pressing Kendrick Davis work out for y`all lol. Two things Silsbee would have in their favor is they're battle tested, and Yates didn't see McCain last year. It'd say it's a toss up. If Silsbee is ice cold from the three, Yates wins. If they're making their shots and slashing through that press, I'll take Silsbee by 10.
  4. Not a big fan of daisy chains. For example: Brazosport beat Clear Lake last year. Clear Lake beat Cy Falls, the eventual 6a state champion, As we all know Silsbee beat Brazospot. Does that mean Silsbee could have beat Cy Falls last year? Of course not. That's silly. There's only one way to find out who's better. Maybe EC should hit coach Sigler up for a game next year. It shouldn't matter where they play if EC is so big and bad. Silsbee should be better next year. They've got another Elam coming up along with a few others looking to make a bigger impact from JV.
  5. I have a feeling everyone of those players will play tonight.
  6. WOS played Silsbee tough at home last year. Adams and McCain didn't play that game, but Silsbee had more depth to make up for it last year too. That this was a game shouldn't have been a big surprise.
  7. I'm sure Coach Sigler would do it. Not sure it'll be much of a rivalry if it gets too one sided for a few years. Don't remember what Silsbee's record was against Central before Ozen existed. Would have to look that up somewhere.
  8. Where are all the kids who don't make the team gonna play? I'm assuming they're not gonna have a 30 man roster.
  9. Sure we'd adjust and learn to how to deal with this weather if it was the norm for us. It isn't. Lots of people getting out on the roads who aren't used to driving in ice and snow is a recipe for disaster. I believe central Texas has already had 145 car accidents. Some of those accidents were serious. Be safe and be smart. We can go back to wearing shorts in January by the end of the week.
  10. Some of these teams in district just roll over and die when they play Silsbee. Orangefield, while certainly not a powerhouse, isn't that horrible. Certainly not terrible enough to have lost by 100 + if Coach Sigler had let it happen. They played East Chambers tough a while back. So who can we expect to put up a fight in district? LC-M or WO-S maybe? Most of these games will be over before they start.
  11. I haven't got to see a lot of Tiger play this year. Part of me can't help but wonder if Tuesday's game wasn't them just playing lesser competition, no offense to HJ. I'm certainly hoping it's a sign of them getting their act together.
  12. Not having Bruce Newton, Michael Mccain and Calvin Tyler hurts. They may not have lit up the scoreboard on most nights, but their play is sorely missed. We need some lockdown defenders. Boggles my mind how we can't get at least one decent sized kid to play the post this year, Anyhow, there's no reason for them not to be motivated now. They know they can lose to another 4A team. A few of our players have talked the talk about how they know they're winning another state title this year. Time to make it happen. I expect a solid showing in Dallas.
  13. Midlothian Heritage was one missed basket away from beating Denton Guyer this year. Silsbee is gonna have some work to do if they make it past Yates and get to state.
  14. Wish Silsbee could get some good size on their teams again. We used to could get at least one or two 6`6 players on our squads. Then again that just wouldn't be fair to anyone else in 4A with the team we have now, so I guess it evens out
  15. I'm not sure losing to North Shore is an upset. They kicked PA Memorial's butts also, and they're the best team in SET, at least if you ask them about it. I just don't get doing 5 in and 5 out this year. I'd rather have good support around the big 4 and make sure at least two of them are on the court at all times. Also, where are all the new players at? This is mostly the same bunch from last year with guys who didn't play as much getting more time. Silsbee usually has a factory to churn out as many players as needed, even if it's mainly just two neighborhoods that make up these teams. We used to could at least get a few 6`5 or 6`6 players on our teams. I'm a little under 6`2 and I see kids taller than me all the time. I saw a kid yesterday who was, I think, 15 and 6`6. Problem is he ain't the basketball playing type, and neither are most the other tall kids i see when I'm out and abut in town. I more interested in the upcoming Center game in a few weeks. If we struggle or lose to another 4a team, it's time for Coach Sig to light a fire under some butts.
  16. I take it Waxahachie must have returned a lot of starters from last years team. They must have been shooting lights out. Hopefully a better playing Silsbee will get a shot at them. Last years game was crazy. I think Silsbee won 103 - 101 in OT or something like that.
  17. Nice win be Silsbee. It's crazy how many good teams are in this tournament. North Shore is still playing football. Not sure if they're like Silsbee when it comes to football/basketball or not.
  18. Not that I expected us to win, but what happened? We were losing by 2 points at the end of 1, and it was still respectable at halftime. Was it the bench? Did we really try 5 in 5 out vs Wagner? Sounds like a recipe for disaster against a team like that if we did. They need to learn to take it to the rim if they're bricking 3s. That and build around the big 4 instead of this 5 in 5 out stuff. This isn't last years team.
  19. Hopefully the Wagner game is competitive this time around. If not we just need to accept the fact that this years team can't hang with the tog dogs in 6A. Not that it's Silsbee's job to beat schools that dwarf them in student population anyways.
  20. I'm glad coach Sigler isn't afraid to take on big teams regardless of what players he has. If we lose we lose. Respect everyone but fear nobody is his mantra. I hope whoever proceeds him in coaching continues this after he retires. They'll probably have their full roster after this week anyways. They just need a little time to gel after that. All that really matters is how Silsbee is playing come playoff time.
  21. Should go either 7 - 2 or 6 - 3 against that bunch.
  22. Losing to Clear Lake and Sam Houston is nothing to be worried about. These games don't matter, although I can understand always wanting to win. Tough competition is good for these kids. They need to know that, no matter how good you think you are, you can be beaten. There's always work to be done. It's better than them beating up on cream puffs to feel better about themselves.
  23. A 39 - 39 score in double OT? Good God. Silsbee needs to play it smart this year. Don't let other teams in district provoke them into doing anything stupid.
  24. Didn't Miller Kopp and Braylon play together for the Houston Defenders? That may have something to do with it, as I'm sure Braylon and him play very well together. He might want to make a run for a state title before his high school days are over. He'd get plenty of playing time here. Silsbee ain't gonna be as deep next year, I don't think. He'd also likely be the only true big we have. I wouldn't get my hopes up for this happening, but if it does, that's very bad news for every other 4A team in the state.
