Lamar University looking for another AD

Being in the WAC should make LU more visible and viable for prospective candidates. Every coach in the program will be on notice, if they're not already. There's a huge opportunity to improve quickly with the right person. -
Thanks SETXsports, time to move on

They say football is a copycat sport. It's amazing that we never saw this again. 😂 -
I was listening when he said that. Classic line...

Spring training will begin on March 18 and the 162-game regular season starts on April 7. Great news for all of us seamheads!

Montavien Hunt might have broken the record if he hadn't gotten hurt in 2018. He was so good that season... -
Nice! I wish I could have heard some of those. There was about a long stretch when I couldn't get access to any of the games and by the time I did, Coach Brack wasn't calling games anymore.
-
This should be fun... Back in the late 80's in Jasper, Coach Brack would say "You gotta love it!" while we were dying during conditioning drills. I heard some kid say something about him not moving in ten minutes. That kid didn't love that at all after Coach got done with him. 😁

That game with us last year was a slobberknocker!

I agree with you. I wasn't in Jasper yet when Coach Walkoviak was hired, but he was really young (29) when he got the job and hadn't been in coaching long. He obviously did more there than anyone ever thought he would in 1977. Anyway, Coach Crumedy was going to get a shot somewhere eventually and I'm happy that he's coming home. This is great for everyone involved.

I researched MaxPreps to get points per game in the six seasons he was the OC. Overall, those teams averaged 47 points/game. Some of those scores came from the defense, but this is still impressive. 2016 14 games 670 points 47.9 ppg 2017 15 games 719 points 47.9 ppg 2018 12 games 654 points 54.5 ppg 2019 14 games 689 points 49.2 ppg 2020 11 games 478 points 43.5 ppg 2021 13 games 512 points 39.4 ppg

I'll try to remember to post a new one tonight after the announcement is made. If I don't, DBD probably will.

That's what I mean by curveballs.

Jasper also wasn't the job it used to be when Darrell was hired. The fieldhouse was a revolving door and coaches were leaving left and right. At the time, bringing him in was as good a move as the higher ups could ever make.
-
He was referring to when Darrell got the job. I thought it was a great fit at the time and I really think he could have stayed in Jasper as long as he wanted to. He had more success there over a decent amount of time than anyone not named Walkoviak. I just hope they hire the best fit for the program, regardless of name or ties to Jasper. You know the level of athletes that walk through the halls as well as anyone, Coach. Greatness is right there in front of us...

I always felt like he was supported by the community as well, but I wasn't surprised at all when he left. Sometimes, it's just best to start fresh in a different place. There was some criticism about his ability to adapt schemes to defenses, but there weren't many people that wanted him gone. It seems like he felt like he hit what he thought was the ceiling of the program. I could be wrong about that because the double retirement thing probably had a lot to do with it, too. I think he'll win in Mansfield and I wish him well.
