I'm gonna say 42-13 Jasper. Our defense always seems to give up big plays. We need huge improvement on that side of the ball in the next two games before we play Carthage.
-
Yep. I even tried to back channel with a radio station in Omaha to get Nebraska to look at him after the big game he had against Wo-S a couple of years ago. It didn't work. I have no idea where he went. Note: I just saw that Hunt signed to play at Trinity Valley. Maybe he'll get noticed by a bigger school at some point and be able to transfer.
-
I have no idea if anyone's even looking at him. For some reason, big colleges don't look at our guys very often. We had a guy that just graduated this year that was every bit as good as Limbrick and I never heard a word about him going anywhere.

Time to turn the page after a great game with Vidor. DCTF has Jasper by 30. I do think Jasper is the better team, but that's a lot of points. What are your thoughts?
-
I think it's good for all teams to schedule teams that are either on par or perceived to be better than they are. Back during our most successful run in the 80's, we used to schedule a couple of decent 5A teams out of Houston, Huntsville (also 5A at the time) when they were really good and then WO-S before district play. We won most of those games and those gave us confidence to do well in our district every year. Football in Southeast Texas at that time was arguably the most competitive in the state and there were some years that the tough pre-district schedule helped us make pretty good playoff runs and others where we would run into powerhouses like WO-S and PNG and get bounced out early. Weak scheduling usually hurts teams more than it helps them.
-
You guys are a good group of fans. I'll be honest and say that I don't really pay a lot of attention to other teams unless we play them a lot, so Vidor was off the radar for me. Hopefully, you guys will become regulars on our pre-district schedule.

The record paired up with a +392 point differential tells me that the Pirates shoot themselves in the foot a lot in close games. Every team does that, but I would guess that the Pirates have had it happen more than a lot of teams.
-
I'll never understand running short yardage out of the pistol like you guys do or the shotgun. It should be Power-O just about every time. You can always run play action off of it if you need to based on what the defense is doing.
-
He told me the same thing. With all of the great backs and quarterbacks we had, that offense would have been unstoppable. We always had the defense to back that up, too. I never asked him why he chose not to go that route. Did you?
-
I agree, but they need a QB that can throw consistently to make that work. They don't have that right now.
-
I agree with you. The Pirates did a heck of a job most of the night. I was really impressed with how they came out after halftime, too. Jasper showed me a lot after that with how they responded from being behind. I saw a lot that I liked out of both teams and they'll both get better after this.
-
Knew this would be a good ballgame. Vidor gave us fits. Have a good season, Pirates!
-
Appreciate that. We're a small group, but we try to call it like it is. Every now and then someone will join and start stuff, but we run them off pretty quickly.
-
So that would put him at 71-25 with the Bulldogs. That's probably second in career winning percentage over that many games behind Coach Walkoviak. He's doing a pretty good job for us.

I don't know what Barbay's record is in Jasper, but he has won most of those 145 there and lost most of the 78 before he got there. If the game is close at halftime, that plays into Jasper's hands. He and his staff have been really good with halftime adjustments. H-J did have a good first half, but they couldn't do much at all in the second half and they were shut out 25-0. Having said that, we know that Vidor is a better team than H-J and that Jasper can't afford to play poorly early. As good as their adjustments are, they don't always matter when you're trying to dig out of a hole. Looking forward to this one. Go Dawgs!
-
It would be better if the Dawgs were still playing at the Alamo (or Dawg House as we old schoolers called it). I get why the district decided to do that, but I'm still bitter. I guess I'm becoming a "get off my lawn" type at the ripe old age of 47. 😁😁 I haven't been to the new stadium because I don't live there anymore, but there's no way the atmosphere is the same.

@WOSgradCan something be done about the gray quote boxes. The text is very hard to see.

I agree. I want to see how this week goes and then maybe I'll e convinced.
-
That stream is a mess. Most of the time it's either lagging or doesn't work at all.
-
Glad you're here. Go Dawgs!

I guess that makes me an old fart, too. Games like these remind me of 80's football. We ran the veer at Jasper in those days and only passed when we had to unless we had a quarterback that could throw really well out of play action. I've always loved that style of play and I think kids had to be in better shape to play physical football like that. That was the biggest indicator of winning programs back then in my opinion.
-
Yep. It's all about ball control to me. If they can stop Limbrick & Co., they'll probably win the game.
-
This should be a pretty good test for both teams. Jasper had some problems in the first half last night against H-J, but they made a few adjustments at halftime and shut out the Hawks in the second half. If the game is close at halftime, I think Jasper has the slight edge. Vidor's gonna have to jump on the Bulldogs early, I think. I'm not sure how our team will handle that kind of situation. The Bulldogs have a major issue with the kicking game right now. Kickoffs and punts are fine, but PATs have been an adventure, whether we're talking about kicks or going for two. That will factor into a game like this one. I'll take Jasper by 5, something like 32-27. I'm being as objective as I can be. I know we're all homers here. 😁

Jasper 46, HJ 20 FINAL

Pretty impressed with the Hawks so far. A good ball control offense can do wonders against a team like Jasper. Should be a good second half. The Bulldogs have to get a score coming out of the locker room.
