I'd like to think we're that good, but who knows? We got out of the gate fast last week against Silsbee too, but turnovers hurt us and they got back in it before the game was called before halftime. I think Newton's better than they've shown tonight.

Newton's numbers are down and Jasper's got a lot more size.

Pretty crazy. Jasper also dodged a bullet with that tornado in the spring. It's not normal for Jasper to catch a break like that, let alone two in the same year.

It's amazing how 15 miles between Jasper and Newton can make that much of a difference in damage.

It's too early to tell what Jasper might do, but it's pretty obvious that Newton is way down.

Jasper leads 36-8 with just over 7 minutes left in the first half. Newton has the ball at the Bulldog 11 after a bad snap over the punter's head. Jasper has some real issues in the kicking game.

Very fast start. Newton only dressed 27 players from what I heard. Jasper's deeper and it looks like they're gonna score all they want.

It's easy to blame the officials at the end of that game, but we never should have gotten so far behind. Those Dawgs had some heart and a bunch of good players. I watched the Gilmer feed of that game on YouTube about a year ago and they were talking about blowing us out for a good chunk of the game, but they were amazed with how we outplayed the Buckeyes in the second half.

I was hoping we'd do a little better than that, but it's a good coaching tool for those kids. They'll get better...

All I can tell you is that our JV squad is fast based on what I saw in the scrimmage that was webcast a few weeks ago. I don't know anything about your Hornets, but hopefully they'll play well and it will be a good game.

They were pretty cocky, even when they were terrible. We went down there in '89 with a pretty good group and beat them 82-0 and they were still jawing all night long.

I expect this to be a good defensive game. We played a slobber knocker against a very good Diboll team last year on a short week and lost 14-9. Jasper should play better this time around, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if the score is similar to that game.

Didn't see this coming at all, especially after reading yesterday that Jasper wouldn't have a game this week. Nice work by both coaches to get this done on the fly! I'll take the Dawgs by 1. Should be a great one.

Just saw on KJAS that Jasper won't have a game this week. I know that they have added @ LC-M into their bye week slot (per Coach Barbay last week), so as of now they'll have a 9-game schedule.

That makes sense. I'm really impressed with the Tigers and how they took a punch in the mouth from us and came right back. That's a great coaching point for both teams.

Coach Barbay is supposedly looking for someone to play after his week's game with WO-S was called off. Are there any updates on that?

They have Jasper as 0-0, but they show a 20-14 score and a win right next to it on the site. I don't agree with what they did here. Jasper shouldn't be in the top 10 and Silsbee shouldn't have dropped out of it. The game didn't count and shouldn't have influenced the rankings. Hopefully, we'll justify what they did by playing better than we did in the game last week. #6 is too high.
