Livingston stops Shepherd. Fumble recovery by the Lions at their 12.
-
6-0 Livingston end Q1. Shepherd driving with the ball at Livingston 15.
-
6-0 Livingston. 430 to go in Q1. Had a blocked extra point. Much better drive this second possession.

About 80 degrees. Nice weather. I'm feeling optimistic. Don't know if the Lions streak ends tonight but it should be a competitive game this second go round. Livingston is going to win this year.

I hate to say it, but Woodville wins this one by 6.

Beaumont was bigger in the 60s and 70s, well over 120k. It still is trying to get to that figure now. If you mean by growth that new shops are being built, I agree, but no one is really moving to Beaumont, which is a shame because it has a lot to offer. I'm hoping that BISD has fixed its problems. It would benefit everyone in the area if BISD was stable. I'm pulling for y'all. As for Houston, the last oil downturn has slowed the city proper's growth. It won't catch Chicago until the 2040s now since all the growth has been in unincorporated Harris county and the burbs.

Tried talking my son to moving out there and going to grand oaks. He wanted to stay out and make me continue to drive to work. It's a beautiful school.

Desmond Demas denied transfer to Tomball
Lions Pride 2021 replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Football
All of the people involved except the coach went on the record after.the decision was announced. It seems nice that he tried to help the kid, but if his parents said it wasn't enough, then let it go. If he had the best interest of the kid, let him go, don't be a crybaby because his family made a decision to put him in a better school and living situation. You shouldn't hold grudges against people that are doing what's best for them. The UIL and coaches shouldn't have this power, even if the move is for athletic purposes. -

The article by Adam Coleman in the Chronicle does a good job of laying out the sides, except for the coach at North Forest, who declined to speak. He doesn't come off looking to good. By all accounts, Demas is making better grades at Tomball and is in a much better situation. Coaches shouldn't have this power. The district and state committee failed him. And if it was for athletics, I would feel the same way. Parents should be able to do what they think is best for their children. -
Y'all might as well start planning for the fourth now. I wish I owned one of the trailer homes north of Texas 99. I'd sell it for a few million. Glad y'all are getting more schools.

Were it not for the census bureau adding Newton County to the count, Beaumont Port Arthur Orange would have had negative growth. Most census projections show the area shrinking in population by the end of the century. As for the plants, these new units only need 5-10 people to run them. The construction is temporary. The area really needs to diversify. It's not a good sign when Orange county doesn't have a hospital and they refuse to pay for one and Port Arthur loses one. Doesn't speak well for the health and growth prospects for the area.

Desmond Demas denied transfer to Tomball

The academics are much better at Tomball. If it was about football, he'd go back to North Forest. He said he's not. As he is a minor, he can't decide what school he goes to, that's on his parents. The coaches and UIL should have nothing to do with what a parent wants to do in regards to with his child. HISD is a disaster and the sooner the state takes it over, the better. He'll be fine at A&M. -

Just saw it. Bad decision. He's staying at Tomball. I can't blame him. Shame on these crybaby coaches. -
Unless there's a 7A made, even West Brook will be 5A within 10 years even maintaining its current student population. Houston, Dallas Austin and San Antonio don't open 5A schools anymore. It's not economical. The population growth up 69 is crazy. New Caney, Porter, Cleveland will all be bigger than West Brook in 10 years, with Splendora not too long behind. Beaumont just hasn't grown since the 1980s. The metropolitan area is missing about 600-700k people, which it would have had if it had kept up with all the growth Texas has had in the last 30 years. It's a shame, the area has a lot of good things going for it.

Life isn't a team sport. Sticking with your high school team has nothing to do with your character or whether you'll be successful in life. OJ didn't transfer high schools or college; how that work out? Kids transferring is not a kid's decision; it's the parents. That vype article was full of crybaby coaches. It was a shame they held up Malik Hornsby last year. You know why he moved? His mother was tired of worrying about him getting shot. His old neighborhood was that bad. Coaches, coach the kids you got. If they're there, they are committed. If a kid transfers to your school, he's committed. Quit messing with parents raising their children. You don't let anyone raise yours.

Livingston at Cleveland Scrimmage Thread
Lions Pride 2021 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
Cleveland wins 7-0 in the scrimmage. Cleveland wins 7-0 in the simulated quarter. Sloppy play all around. Several weather delays during the freshman scrimmage pushed the schedule back. Livingston frosh and jv win their scrimmages. There's a lot of construction at Cleveland. Be prepared for a long walk to get to the stadium. -
Must be sad to not know what it feels like to be wanted. In bigger cities with bigger companies, it's not unusual for people to switch jobs; You take the talent as long as you can get it. Companies can fire you if they don't like your haircut, for chrissakes. So if you can get more money take it. Why show loyalty to people who obviously don't have any to you?

Schools can go downhill or things can change that you don't like. Y'all lost Central and Ozen last year; that might have been enough for someone to give BISD dueces. For what it's worth, I commute to Houston because my children wanted to finish up with their friends. If I was really concerned with athletic success, I would have just made them move to the Woodlands now, which is probably my next stop after graduation in 2021. As it is I'm stuck watching a young team trying to avoid letting the losing streak run up into the 20s. My next set of children will be going to school in Houston or Dallas.

At the end of the day, the only people that care for your child is the parent. If moving is best, so be it. Who gives a flip if everyone thinks I'm selfish. If it's gonna help my kid, then that's what's going to happen. I go back to the job example, if you got a better job offer tomorrow ( more money, more vacation, better benefits, etc) are you sticking with the current job? No, you're moving on. That's not being selfish, it's doing what's best for you and your family.

Parents should be able to do what they think is best for their kids, including moving for sports. Granted making to collegiate athletics, let alone the pros, is extremely unlikely, but if that's the route they're taking so be it. No one can make you stay at a job you don't like. Some schools are better than others. If a kid wants to go, it's really no one's business except that family. As long as they meet the enrollment requirements of the new school, there should be no problem. People pick the school before they buy the house all the time.
