Silsbee 75 Little Cypress-Mauriceville 56/FINAL
Lions Pride 2021 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I'm hoping they can keep it under 20. less than 20 is a win against Silsbee. -
As an alum, 20 would be a close game and I would take it. There's no way LCM sniffs that. I don't consider blowouts good games. Yes it's a new year but it is a topical because its the next time they meet. Everyone in the gym (is it the New Bear Cave or the Grove, I've heard both) will be talking about it until tipoff. I'm sure they'll shake hands and keep it to ball. I just didn't appreciate their attitude and style of play last season.

I'm just gonna have to disagree with you about people missing their schools. If this happened in your community, even if it was the result of mismanagement you would be sad. Yes had the bond been managed better Central would probably be here. This may well be the best decision but that doesn't mean the community has to like it or shouldn't mourn. Put it like this. If the doctor told you its amputate both legs or die. You amputate your legs but you're not happy about it at that moment. Ozen may be 20 years old but they have plenty of state championships and memories for those that attended. Their alumni should be proud. Both schools will be missed. If you can't understand that, there's no hope for you.

Just because it may be the right decision, and that can be a legitimate debate, doesn't mean this isn't a sad day. A lot of people have attachments to both schools. In a lot of ways your school is a family. I believe they have every right to be sad and upset. All us outsiders should allow it and give the Jags and Panthers their space to grieve. They're going to have to find a new identity and that's going to take time. I wish them all the best.

I would have liked to see a new central hs and I suspect the kids and the community would have liked that as well. I think because of of the last bond issue was handled and the requirements of the state that they maintain a certain debt level and rebuild the rainy day fund building a new school is probably impossible. When the new elected board gets in I hope they remember this and take care of the kids. This is historic. All BISD high schools will be housed in the old South Park ISD high schools. It's basically BISD in name only at this point after deciding Smith/French HS couldn't host central although it was big enough for 5A 30 years ago. I think Central's current enrollment was not much bigger than Frenchs last year and West Brook had Baby Brook for years. So many questions. I will miss Central and Ozen. I hope their teams finish strong.

This is sad for the kids and alums of both schools. As for the BOM making the decision, the last set of elected board were running the district in the ground. This time there's no South Park ISD to save BISD like there was in the 80s. I think the BOM has for the most part done a good job of righting the ship. And while I think the community should get its district back please don't re elect the people that put you in this spot in first place. I saw a few of the old suspects won election after being kicked to the curb. Had the old board done their job BISD may have been able to fix or build a new central. Instead the taxpayers and children were robbed.

Beaumont Ozen 50 Vidor 48/FINAL

Just heard about the merger. I'm sad this is the last year for Ozen and Central. Just when the district was showing that it was getting better. 2019 would have been great now that Vidor and PNG are playing decent basketball. Outside of the games we play them, I wish both Central and Ozen the very best in their final seasons. They have a fan in me. -

I think Ozen is gonna lose one of these games in the second round of district. The bottom of the district is much improved. Congrats on Ozen fighting through the end. -
I spent some significant time in Iron Mountain Michigan for a few winters. The high would be -10. Its not the snow. You can clear that out no problem and people have snow tires to handle what falls on the ground. But when it rains or up there when it gets above freezing for a few hours it turns the slush and melt water into black ice. Nobody drives on that. Its dangerous. For an event that only happens once or twice a decade its alright to be a little cautious. We're not used to this stuff. As for the rain that's just a few minutes or a few hours (hurricanes notwithstanding) so that's not even a good analogy. Look at the bright side we'll be in the 70s this weekend. And we may get two straight days of basketball. Its a win in my book.

I think they will have to reschedule Wednesdays games. Its only getting colder and the roads will continue to freeze today. They probably won't thaw out until tomorrow afternoon if they do at all.

Beaumont Ozen 91 Livingston 48/FINAL

This would be the year to do it. They look like they'll be tough next year with the kids on JV and they young guys being worked in on varsity. A win against the Panthers would be among the top 10 wins in either of those program's histories. That's a tribute to how fast Ozen established itself as one of the top programs in the state in the past 20 years. I hope they get another 20 years. We'll just have to wait another week to find out. -

There were so many missed shots. Against a better disciplined team the Panther lose tonight. I think Vidor and PNG have a shot in the second go around in district. Lumberton gave them fits. Its gonna be a fight every game for them the rest of the season. -

I don't know who is gonna do it but Ozen will lose a game to a team not named Port Arthur or Central. Not the Ozen I remember. Maybe they're young? -

Lions Pride 2021 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Yes. I saw Lumberton a few times in tournament play and they are a solid team. Vidor is as well. Nederland hold on the final playoff spot will be precarious all season. Tonight's score is a solid win.
