The Woodlands Thanksgiving Tourney
Lions Pride 2021 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
This is gonna be a fun tournament in a fun spot. I just wish my 2018 2019 squad was playing instead of this version of Livingston. They would stand a better chance. -
Memorial has done well. District is supposed to prepare you for the playoffs. The team they lost to last year - Temple- played in the state championship game. Memorial would have been in Dallas if not for that loss. As for WOS they didn't immediately dominate when they moved to 3A. They're good teams all around. It took another drop in size and a really special class to get the three now four year run they're on. If anything Memorial will be in better shape following the split as they'll play up to the competition they'll face in the playoffs. Playing Lumberton, Ozen, Livingston and Central doesn't do the Titans any favors. (Not a knock on those schools they're basically 4A and PAM is darn near 6A. I'm pretty sure memorial JV could beat those teams varsity on any given Friday) Its more like glorified scrimmages and bad habits can be formed playing down a level. Instead of worrying about one loss appreciate what you have and cheer them on.

Kilgore 49 Little Cypress-Mauriceville 0/FINAL
Lions Pride 2021 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
If they had the whole team it would have been a closer game. My LCM contacts said the team was really banged up. Kilgore was a better team but not seven TDs. That said, that was severe coaching malpractice. I understand why the kids got frustrated, coach had them playing to minimize the damage instead of trying to get back in the game. Oh well at least they're good in basketball. Maybe y'all can get revenge in February. -

That was a rough game. Kilgore was really fast. My hat off to them. The one thing I don't understand is why LCM huddled after every play when they were down 28-0 during their first possession of the third quarter. They used nearly 8 minutes of the clock and turned the ball over. Their coach didn't give them a chance to get back in the game. You're down that much it has to be no huddle with a choice of two plays. It was super frustrating. They weren't gonna win the game but they could have made it interesting with better coaching. -
When the incident happened no one would have believed her. In today's climate people have finally had enough of the abuse and are speaking out. I wish that she had not experienced what she did but I also wish she felt she could have expressed the outrage back then. I for one believe her. As I was listening to the radio this morning people who know her and Roy Moore were calling in to confirm these allegations. Shame on Moore.

That would be a great move for Texas. Hope this happens. He'd be very supportive of Herman as DKR was to him.

Big Red travels to Houston to take on the HBU Huskies. This year has been a disappointment. This is probably the last chance to get a conference win. LU ain't beating McNeese next weekend. At this point I would take being competitive as a consolation prize. Sadly the Cards are being outcoached and possibly out athleted this year.

Unfortunately the newspaper industry is a little lost these days especially with the internet. The main purpose of the paper is to sell ads not inform. If no one buys the paper then there's less ads. Its a vicious cycle. I still buy newspapers because I used to work at one and understand the dedication it takes to put up a good article. I was severely underpaid in relation to what I produced but I have experienced things that the people who replaced me may never experience unless they leave to a bigger market or join a the NFL MLB NBA websites. The Beaumont Enterprise used to cover the Texans Rockets Astros Cowboys Longhorn and Aggies while still looking out for the local team. But they had a staff of 5-6 writers not including editors. They'll never do it again. They print the Enterprise in Houston now. The day will come when all writing is outsourced to the chronicle and you won't have any local writers. That will be a sad day. The chronicle today looks like the enterprise did 20 years ago. That's an acceptable size paper for an area like Beaumont but not for Houston. Newspapers are shrinking everywhere

That sucks. In the state of the district for 2016 2017 the enrollment was 1176 between the two high schools. They have sent the parents letters stating the district is full and warning those who live out of district they can be fined. District ain't full. Intermediate and Jr high are in high school buildings. Unless they were able to kick out a bunch of kids they're staying 5a and probably limp along until the big elementary classes move up.

I haven't lived in the golden triangle in almost two decades so I don't know what a moody bojo is. Probably a good thing. I know a few people that play on the team and I'm glad they're playing well. I just don't count it as a sure thing until its done.

Lufkin 50 Beaumont West Brook 7/FINAL
Lions Pride 2021 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
I'm well aware of why the last coach left. I'm a WB fan. My fault is with BISD for not paying what it takes to keep the good coaches. If you're hungry and talented trying to make a name for yourself. West Brook is a good spot for a few years to win. And then go to Houston Dallas or San Antonio to go get paid. Money has nothing to do with the loss everyone entitled to an off game. The comment was if you like to keep a good coach it costs money. BISD doesn't pay. Same thing with teachers. Unless you are just so in love with Beaumont its hard to turn down the bonuses, better pay, less work and newer schools in Houston. As for the LCM comment????? I don't get it. And why you're trying to get personal? I like west brook (my reasons are personal but valid) unlike half the commenters on this thread. You're barking up the wrong tree. Gotta pay to play. BISD doesn't understand 6a coach salaries start at 115K. They're barely paying 5a salaries. That's why they can't keep the good ones. WB is now a stepping stone job. -
Port Arthur Memorial 61 Livingston 20/FINAL
Lions Pride 2021 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
Was it homecoming? Those games used to full no matter who Lincoln or TJ was playing. Ima chalk that up to the hurricane and people still getting their lives back together. You learn nothing playing a team like Livingston. They were beat before the schedule came out. I wish PA the best of luck in the playoffs and if you're lucky enough to see temple again, kick their teeth in this time. -
Could this be a trap game? There's gonna be a game when the offense doesn't work. They beat two teams expected to be competing for the district title but one bad game kills the good vibes. I would be cautiously optimistic the winning continues for LCM.

You are doing work keeping up with the girls. Great job. Lets hope we get a few teams out of bidistrict this year.

This would help Ozen tremendously as long as the powers that be don't make them play up in 5A. There's advantages of being a big fish in a small pond. Ozen Silsbee Lumberton LCM Bridge City is a good district.
-
I started to really vent on this and thought better of it. I'm not from Livingston but my children go to school and play here and its really frustrating for me. I didn't expect to beat PNG Port Arthur Nederland and Vidor but I expected competitive play and if the ball bounces a certain way you never know... I don't think those are unreasonable expectations. Port Arthur should score 70, just like Ned and PNG should have.
-
That's the first I heard of Nac. You also have Dayton and Barbers Hill which will be D2 5A. They they could go to beaumont or to I69. I think i69 is closer.
-
They're not even competitive. I don't know if I want to see them against Sam Houston State. The Kats are going to hang 70 on the Cards. Why didn't we hire an experienced coach. Why are we doing things cheaply. I'm tried of sending my money there for such a less than mediocre product.
-
It ain't that west brook is getting smaller its that Houston Dallas and San Antonio add only 6a and 5a schools. Eventually 2500 will be the 5a cutoff. It might be 2200 this year. So unless Beaumont starts growing or all the schools merge into one its only a matter of time before West Brook plays in what we currently call 5A. Honestly there needs to be a 7A where schools above 3500 play each other and then start the 6a/5a splits.
-
Yup I unfortunately went to school there.
-
I wouldn't call beaumont land locked its the fourth biggest port in the country and the second largest military port in the world! The only reason I left 15 years ago was there just weren't many opportunities if you didn't work in the plants. Area needs diversity in industry. The area isn't shrinking. Thank goodness but it ain't growing either. There won't be any 6A schools in the area in less than 10 years because of the rapid growth everywhere else.
-
Call me crazy but I love Big Money Texas. Its just not growing and do well as other areas of the state. Places like sugar land sugarland pearland conroe. Frisco Denton and the like were all smaller than BMT less than 20 years ago. Had BMT kept up it would be twice the size it is now. In any case I wouldn't be shocked if in three realignment that west brook finds itself in 5A even with 2500 students while Splendora and Cleveland are in 6A. The growth up here is crazy.
