Also hearing that Slack is very interested in the job.
"done deal" is a strong statement. Slack worked at Hardin before, and is liked by some higher authorities there...but I would hope they would consider the most qualified for the job. I'm pretty sure there will be several apply when the position becomes available. Bobcat55...if Slack were to take the Hardin job and leave I'm sure there will be options, but HD won't be as sought after as it once was. Hate to say it, but HD is on quite a downhill slide. There will be quite the interest I bet though especially with so many coaches out of work.
I agree with most of your post. Don't think I would say H-D is on a downhill slide. We definetly had one of our worst years ever. Missing the playoffs by going 4-6 and losing big to West Hardin, a team we have dominated forever. But let's not panic, H-D usually contends for the District Title and goes to the playoffs every year.
HD had a bad year because they don't have many good players. Talent pool is definately running a little dry. And only going to get worse I'm afraid. What needs to happen for HD is for the UIL to get rid of the big school / small school alignments and put HD back in a weak district. Sabine Pass, Burkeville, etc... I've been watching HD football for a long time they will never be what they once were. In fact, I can't think of a ''good team'' that HD has beaten in quite a few years.
So happy we got to have an expert post about H-D football. lol. Every year encluding last season, H-D has some of the best players in district on the team. Last season Chisholm Marberry, Tyler Drake and Chris Taylor were 3 of the top players in district. Heck I can think of lots of good players in just the last few years. The talent is here, we just need kids on the field, not playing playstation at home because they don't get along with the Coaches. We did not field a JV for the first time ever last season. Parents are letting their kids be lazy and not play sports, Coaches and players not getting along so the players quit. The stands are full every friday night across Texas with kids that should be on the football field.

If Coach Slack takes the Hardin job, any names of Head Coaches H-D could go after? We usually have big interest in the position.

I hear he is held in high esteem by many members of the community. He will definitely be a candidate.
Why would Coach Slack leave his alma mater H-D to go to Hardin? Money? More kids? H-D had no JV last season.
All of the above. Facilities, talent pool, etc. etc...... Hardin has become a better job than HD. Nostalgia is a great thing, but when you compare the two....in 2011 and beyond....Hardin is the clear cut better job. Besides, Slack is starting to get the reputation as a guy who still has his job due to the fact that he is a HD graduate and his parents own the restaurant across the street. He has had no success. As a matter of fact, he has underachieved. Some of the teams he has had should've done lots more than they did. His first few years, they had enough talent to go several rounds deep in 1A, and they couldn't even get out of the first round. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure why Hardin would want him, but that is the rumor. Take it for what it's worth.
Very good points made in your post. I do agree Hardin has way better facilities hands down. Hardin's turf field is awesome. I agree Coach Slack may want to reach out and prove people wrong regarding favor to him in H-D. For the record I feel Coach Slack has done a decent job, not a great job. I do not agree that Hardin has a better talent pool than H-D. H-D has the ability to bring in athletes not just from H-D, but from Raywood, Devers and Ames. Many great athletes have come from those surrounding towns. Problem is now our Coaches don't go after players like they use to. I remember my H-D Coaches going to the homes of kids back in the day, talking with the parents and incouraging kids to play. Not these days. H-D failed to field a JV football team for the first time last season. H-D may need some new faces and new energy. The genes and tradition are still in our community. I pray our Coaches, parents and kids can come together and get these kids off the playstations and on the fields. Go Bobcats!

How do you see District 13 in 1A shaping out with High Island going to six-man? Do you see Sabine Pass going to six-man also? Maybe like this: Hull-Daisetta Evadale West Hardin Colmesneil ? -

Congrats WH on putting a butt whipping on my beloved Bobcats. WH out Coached and out played the H-D Bobcats tonight. On a sad note for me... we may be witnessing an end to respectable H-D Football, for the first time ever in school history H-D has no JV and we get killed by WH. The future looks scary. Also if you are a 1A football team... PLEASE play your top players both ways, don't have BIG #73 Chris Taylor and BIG #66 Jimmy Barton only playing on defense! Furthermore is you have a gunslinger ex-Hardin QB on your team that can throw 50 yards on a B-LINE, PLEASE play him when your starting QB goes down. ( #9 Brandon Downs)

As far as talking smack on you, GUILTY as charged, you make too easy with your absurd comments thoughout the years. Hey, your a proud fan & you should be. Just think, you only have to read my comments for the remainder of this year. On the coaches comments, hopefully we're not too far off on the opinions. Feel free to answer FOOTBALL's question that he directed to you originally. I curious as to how far off I am about your thoughts on Coaches Henry & Pickens. I personally think hiring Coach Henry was wonderful and a needed change for my Oilers. Let's here it HD55!
"[glow=red,2,300]The hated rivalry is gone[/glow]" what are you smoking!! Heck no it ain't!! You are right, you don't live near these two communities. This game makes the winners YEAR!! It's like a superbowl to these communities!! On the field these players hate each other, but after the game they are friends. It was the same when I played against Thad LaNormand, William Price, Bubba Guidry, Marty Lofton, Corey Mosley, Matt West and Randall Brown. All these men were my friends until we took the field on friday night. Also these WH men listed above are some of the best men you will ever meet, I am friends with most of them today. The heated rivalry is alive and well!!! GO BOBCATS!
First, I have no idea who any of these people are and it doesn't mean anything to me. When did you play 20, 30 or 40 years ago, how does that relate to todays teams? Secondly, I did live in Batson & then moved to La Porte. Third, every team hates the other opponent during the game, how is that different just for WH vs HD. Fourth, as usual, you are all over the place in your comments. Bring it down a little, no need to get worked up over a sports forum comment. Finally, you still have not answered the question about the coaches, so lets hear your take on why YOU think their great. Since I wasn't speaking for you and all.
Wow! I have been going back and forth with a fake Oiler! lol. LaPorte!! Now I see why you say the things you do. lol. ;D
I've seen both teams play. WH should take this one
One month ago WH would have beat H-D hands down. Not the case now, the Bobcats have continued to get better every week and stay healthy. H-D is playing football at a high level and it shows. WH has a very talented athletic team, that may have one of the best Coaching staffs in East Texas. If H-D decides to play man coverage all night vs WH, this game could get ugly. If H-D has two layers of defense(safety back) and not just one layer, we should be fine. I am very impressed with the offensive line play from H-D, we have been dominating on the ground. Seats will be filled with standing room only I'm sure!!
Funny we never hear from you until WH has a winning season, which is very seldom. lol. :D ;D

He rushed for 7 TD's vs Colmesneil. Also he probably rushed for close to 150-200 yards.
Coach doesn't report 'em, we can't pick em.
I understand.
Burkeville won state in 2000. Are they a powerhouse today?... The point is the past means absolutely nothing. I think that just because HD consistently makes the playoffs does NOT mean they have a rich history of winning. They made the playoffs last year as a 5-5 team. Average. Then got destroyed 1st round making them 5-6. Below average. Same thing the year before. Consistenly making the playoffs in a weak district just means that you have a history of winning in that district. HD was beat by Iola this year and Iola doesnt have a chance of making the playoffs. What does that tell you?.. Back to the point. Past means nothing. WH wins this year. WH 26 HD 14
Apparently you don't get it. Yes... we probably don't have a state bound team. But H-D has a team that can beat WH. People that are hating on H-D's tradition, probably fell victim to the Bobcats on a regular basis. If you talk to people around East Texas with football knowledge, they will tell you Hull-Daisetta has a rich strong tradition in highschool football. Most schools over the years just have not made there mark. Teams like WOS, Newton, PNG, LaMarque and Hull-Daisetta have. Bottom line for teams like Hardin, West Hardin, Liberty and many others, is they just have not established a rich and strong tradition of good football. Now... there will be years when these teams will have a single season or two of success, good for them. H-D has and will continue to win and the pride and tradition carries own. So blessed to be an H-D Bobcat.
Important thing to note: Half of WH's 8 wins against HD have happened in the past 10 years. HD just does not dominate folks like they did 30 or so years ago. [glow=red,2,300]They have proven to be below average [/glow] since they last fielded a good team in 1979. They have only won 3 playoff games in the past 32 years.
Making the playoffs every year is not below average TARD. That would be above average since only three teams go. lmao!! ;D ::)
