I wouldn't worry myself with what others around the league are saying. I must say I drove around the campus at Lamar for the first time in several years and the administration has done a wonderful job. I was told the campus looked different and they were right. It looks great and in my opinion now is the right time to bring back the football program.

Is Lamar ready to revive football?
TheSportsDoctor replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I'll support the return of football in any way I can. Donations and attending a few games each year. Season tickets would not help myself much do to my profession. There are a lot of Saturday nights I have other engagements. That said, the wife and myself are both Lamar alumnus and I'll make as many games as possible. See you at the game! -
Abtr, you and the dude from katfans are both right. McNeese State has always been good in DI-AA or now FCS level football. They went to a few bowl games in the 70s when it was just DI. On the other hand, since the NCAA formed the two subdivision McNeese remains a Top 25 team in that subdivision. However, I see your point very well here. It wasn't until after Lamar dropped the football program in 89 the McNeese State Cowboys started to dominate on the national level in DI-AA now FCS football. Look it up for yourself. McNeese State didn't not go to their first quarter-finals until 92 which is three recruiting classes after Lamar dropped football. Today they are ranked the #2 team in the nation in FCS football. I believe there have several kids from SE Texas on their roster. I'm a Lamar alumus myself but I have ties to McNeese. I know several guys who played for MSU including Mike Pierce a WO-S assistant coach who was a DI-AA 1st team All-American at McNeese from Vidor High School. Good Luck to the Mustangs as they have a playoff game this weekend. I must say good luck to the McNeese Cowboys as they hoist a 1st round playoff game versus E. Washington.

Here is a quote from a member of the local media
TheSportsDoctor replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
What sportswriter/media person wrote that statement abtr? I can see how someone could question a lot about the game but I've heard this young man is in great shape and I doubt his turnovers were due to fatigue. Maybe he played out of control a little but don't most junior college transfers take about a semester to get use to DI competition? -
Well, you make more than me but I've got the bigger home.
-
Maybe you should go back to school and go into communications. Be that sportswriter you seem to enjoy it.

School bond boom means big changes for SE Texas
TheSportsDoctor replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Don't know why the bond for field-turf at WO-S falled. It's not like the athletes there didn't deserve to have the best facilities. They have one of the best coaching staffs in the state without a doubt! -
What they're saying about Coach Roccaforte
TheSportsDoctor replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I'm not a basketball fan compared with others but I think Lamar is lucky to have a coach like Roc. I think the team will be improved this season. -
I guess Lamar is out of the J'Covan Brown derby? I heard his brother was a student manager on the Lamar team this season. I guess Roc did everything legal to land the kid.

If there is free food, I don't care what abtr says. He'll be there with food in hand! -
Abtr, as many passes as you dropped, I'd quit talking about football. Just messing around, I hope this football stuff comes through for Lamar!

I'm not a big basketball fan but I hear they landed a big-time PG.

Predictions On LU's Record This Year?
TheSportsDoctor replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
After 20+ years of underachieving, I need to see how they do in non-conference before I make a prediction. -
Wesley Phillips POSITION: Offensive Assistant/Quality Control COLLEGE: UTEP NFL EXP: 1st Year COWBOYS EXP: 1st Year Wes Phillips joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2007 as the club's quality control/offensive assistant coach. Phillips comes to the NFL after coaching quarterbacks in the collegiate ranks for four years. Before landing in Dallas, Phillips coached the quarterbacks in 2006 at Baylor under offensive coordinator Lee Hays. His work with quarterback Shawn Bell paid dividends as Bell threw for career-highs in attempts (383), completions (241), yards (2,582) and touchdowns (19) before his season was cut short with a season-ending knee injury. Despite missing the final three games of the 2006 campaign, Bell's passing numbers established school single-season records. Prior to his one-year stint at Baylor, Phillips spent two seasons as the quarterbacks coach at West Texas A&M University under Hays. The Buffaloes celebrated their most successful season in almost 55 years in 2005, finishing 10-2 to post their first winning season since 1998, and the program's first 10-win season since 1950. WTAMU won the Lone Star Conference with an 8-1 record, its first league title since 1986 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA D-II Playoffs for the first time in school history. Phillips was an assistant coach at WTAMU and helped the school lead the 2005 Division II ranks in passing offense, racking up 363.8 yards-per-game. He tutored quarterback Dalton Bell who was a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which goes to the top Division II player. Bell completed 68.5 percent of his passes for 3,799 yards and 30 touchdowns with 13 intereptions on 454 attempts. He finished third nationally in total offensive yards (349.2) and established school and conference single-season records for total offense (3,843) and passing yards (3,799). Prior to joining the WTAMU staff, Phillips spent one season as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, UTEP, and played two seasons at quarterback for the San Diego Riptide of the af2. A three-year letterwinner at UTEP (1999-2001), Phillips was a member of the 2000 Miners team that shared the WAC title, posted the school's highest win total in more than a decade and played in the Humanitarian Bowl. He still ranks among the school's single-season leaders in both pass efficiency (ninth 120.0 in 2001) and completion percentage (eighth 55.6 in 2001). Phillips received his degree in philosophy from UTEP in 2001. Wes Phillips - Born February 17, 1979, Houston, Texas. COLLEGE: Quarterback UTEP 1997-2001. PRO: Quarterback San Diego Riptide (af2) 2002-03. College coach: UTEP 2003, West Texas A&M 2004-05, Baylor 2006. Pro coach: Joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2006.

I'm no longer a student at Lamar but my wife and I are both alumnus. We haven't been very active with the school since graduating in the mid 90's. However, if this rumor is true and the students pass a referendum to have football return you can put my family down for six season tickets.

;D I looked it up on the Big XII website. ;D Sorry BD92, I was just curious about the answer.

This coach has connections to Lamar besides being a assistant for Coach Foster at Lamar then at UH. He coached Alan Daniels in junior college at Fort-Smith. He is now the Head Coach at Nebraska. Name is Doc Sadler.
-
Sam Carpenter who is Lamar's only 4 year starter at RB. He is in Lamar's Hall of Honor. I want to say he played HS football at Stark High School in Orange.

Would the man be Burton Murchison a Woodville native who rushed for over 1500 yards in a single season?
