  1. i would like to have a big stadium too, but who is going to pay for it? and as far as SETX supporting big time football, for arguments sake, suppose we do join a conference with teams like U of H, Baylor and UNT. and just suppose we are the celler dweller every year in that conference, i want to see how long those aluminum end zone seats stay filled, much less the rest of the 17,000 seats. then where would we go from there? i trust that Dr. Simmons and Billy Tubbs know what their doing. if they stay FCS i will be happy, if they go FBS i will be happy too.
  2. That's great! Has Jimmy Johnson been scheduled for a interview yet? i think Bill Parcells will be interviewed next week.
  3. ill take a nice cold beer anyday over champagne. ;D
  4. i don't care where we play or who we play, just win baby!!! imo, there is no shame in having a winning FCS football program. the stadium will look great when everything is finished.
  5. i like it, as long as we dont go back to the numbers on the helmet. :-[
  6. You might be right, but if they had given Alborn one more year, they probably wouldn't have been able to kill the program. That last year, they were very competitive and just about to turn the corner. yeah, that's what a lot of LU fans say, i wish LU would have never got rid of their football program.
  7. your right, there have been so many great ones i guess it would be hard to argue who was actually the best.
  8. that turf field really looks nice. i think its interesting how other than color cardinal stadium and cowboy stadium are shaped almost identical.
  9. i guess we need to win the tournament 8) where is it being held?
  10. imo Deon Beasley was the greatest football player in WOS Mustang history. i know thats saying a lot, but ive been watching wos football for 20+ years and ive seen some good ones. but no one could carry a team on his shoulders like this young man. anyone who saw him play would have to describe his playing ability in one word...Incredible! im thankful i was around to see him go through the program. i hope he has continued success.
  11. i dont normally agree with bob west, but i have to agree that Ronnie Thompson would have been a better hire than Ray Alborn.
  12. i dont understand why everyone keeps complaining about the refineries. if u lived here all or most of your life, where can u go in this area and not see or smell a refinery? it's just part of life on the gulf coast. i think cardinal stadium has potential to be a very nice stadium for football with turf and new consessions and restrooms. i have always liked stadiums that have a sunk-in field to give it that "bowl" look, and cardinal stadium has that. with the montagne center to the north and a hopefully a large field house to the south with maybe a large scoreboard and tv monitor for replays, i think it will look better. i would love to have a new stadium too, but i don't think its going to happen.
  13. drove thru nederland the other day and saw the scoreboard. it is HUGE!!! the scoreboard is so big that it makes the stadium look small. i was very impressed. 8)
  14. you can bet it's going to be a good game. these 2 teams always seem to bring out the best in each other. where is this one going to be played at?
  15. i think if Larry Neumann gets the LM job, you will see a lamarque team that is disiplined and well coached in the fundamentals of football. i could see coach neumann building that team into the incredible force they once were under coach alan waddell. i saw those lamarque teams in the mid 90's..........very scary.
  16. i understand that, but as far as lamar is concerned we need to start by winning more games than we have been winning. im a firm believer that winning fixes a lot of things in any program, regardless of conference. and right now slc or not lamar is not winning enough games to get respect from the rest of the country. if we join another conference and win 20+ games a year then im all for it, but what happens if we join another conference and become a celler dweller. as for me id rather be on top of the lowly slc than at the bottom or middle of any other conference. believe me i agree that eventually we will need to move to another conference if schools like SFA, SHSU, or McNeese move. but for now imo we need to stay in the slc. Look at this way. Lets rate all recruits 1 to 5. 5 being superstars, 1 being good enough for D1. The big name conference gets the 4-5's. Midmajors like gets the 3's, some 4's and some 2's. The low majors like the slc gets the 1's and some 2's and sometimes a 3. How will a team with 1's compete with 5's. As a result, Roc could only do so much before he is working in vein. For Lamar basketball to grow, a higher conference which gets the 3's or 4's is a must. Lamar still has more room to grow however there will be a limit ion that growth in the slc. i see your point. 8)

  18. Lamar is not the type of school that can depend on being invited to the NCAA tournament. i dont think moving to a "better" conference will help a whole lot. it will help some, by playing better competition. however, what good what it do if we cant compete with that competition. i think lamar needs to win their slc conference tournament on a yearly basis, and make some noise in the ncaa tournament on a yearly basis as well. just getting to the big dance will not get us recognition, but winning some games in that tournament will. i look at gonzaga, for example i couldn't tell you right now what conference they are in. but they have established themselves as force in college basketball. they were an unknown a few years back, but they made the ncaa tournament every year and won some big games in that tournament. they are no longer cinderella, and i think that exposure has helped them draw some good recruits and stay competitive on a yearly basis. my point for lamar is win the slc tournament every year, make some noise in the ncaa on a regular basis, and get some national tv exposure by playing and winning some ncaa tournament games. then if the time is right and we get invited to a better conference than the southland then we should take that next step to playing with the big schools.
  19. 26 three pointers attempted and only 7 made. cant win like that. pretty good season but it could have ended better. hopefully the coaches and players that are coming back next year will learn from all this. gotta close the deal when destiny is in your hands. i still think that coach roc is a good coach and i hope he stays at lamar for a while.
  20. imo, michael shugart should be the next head baseball coach at wos.
  21. i saw the merrell center on it's website, it is a very nice facility. is it owned by the katy isd or by the city of katy?
