HOUSTON YATES VS LAMAR CARDINALS
team first replied to iknoweverthing2's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
PA Bees..Come on Buddy, it's all about who Lamar and Yates are playing..Lamar sees college level teams every night..Yates, well, does not...Don't be in awe of Yates. Good H.S. team not good college team..You cant press good teams in college...Thats why mam to man is played...Lamar by 20 or so..No Doubt...Yates to Hawaii...Sponsored or FUndrasing.. -
Yep Dove, Not necessary, but there is a difference, it was one time... Yates continues to do it..record, who cares about that..Nobody...just win , go undefeated, win back to back and do it right. 16pts is not what I would call an embarassment...135 pts is a little different. Until you've been in a situation where someone does not pull the dogs off, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND...it is plain unsportsman-like and classless..hes filling his ego, but not smart enough to understand that it's not his coaching that makes them good...My sister could win big with that group, and she thinks the offense stays on one end, and the defense stays on the other, like backin the day.

HOUSTON YATES VS 92 HJ HAWKS WHO WINS???
team first replied to AI_Fan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Difference is simple..Both teams were and are good..yates is simply more athletic. meaning more pressure..Similarities are also simple...Both had or have very good basketball players, meaning very high skill levels..yates would win by....25 to 30...just an opinion. -

Here, i got one, i got one if u have the baddest cock in the ring, is it ur job to hold ur cock back, so he doesnt kill the other cock to easy? Cock fights, dog fight, horse track, its animals, not high school kids -
If you have the fastest horse in the race is it your job to hold back the reigns so that the rest of the pack does not lose by so much? If a coach has taught a team to play a certain style of basketball and that is what they do best or that is the only thing they do then why are they classless if they play their game their way. I saw Yates in a televised tournament during the holidays. While I was not able to see all of the game they were having their hands full with some team. That opponents played them hard for what I saw and their coach was not asking for Yates to back off what they do, he was cacohing his team to pick it up on both ends of the floor to make Yates work for everything that the got. Let Yates play and let the others play better to stop them.
so now we are comparing animals to high school kids? -

Short, there is alot more than just one difference about the people u are trying to compare wise to. In all the games that u mentioned above, were they pressing the whole game? The answer is no. And i believe u meant rick barnes, not mack brown -

Oh, and all of this talk about these kids trying to get scholarships and yada, yada, yada. COME ON MAN! Tell me ONE college scout who would take anything positive from a players performance in a game like this. JUST ONE! Are you seriouly going to say that a scout would be impressed that a potential recruit hit 40 in a game like this? NO WAY! Coaches and scouts want to see how you perform against the BEST! So quit acting like this game was going to somehow impact any players ability to get a scholarship. From what I've read, the Yates players earned all the respect they needed in the high level tournaments they won. Just step on the brakes when necessary and win with CLASS!
So I guess we should tell our kids to not try so hard in district academic competitions because one school isn't as good as the other. Why take AP classes? Fit in with regular students, etc, etc...............Are you classless because a student prepared and scored very high on the SAT and others weren't as prepared?
Well, I am the UIL Computer Applications and Accounting "Coach" at Sterling High School in Baytown. So what you're saying is that I can now instruct my students to "run up" the score at our next Academic meet? Let's see, we can only score a predetermined amount of points on a UIL Academic exam. DANG IT! So I'll have them embarrass the other students with their ACT and SAT scores. WHAT! You can only score up to a 2400 on the SAT and a 36 on the ACT? GOOD GOAT! Well then we'll just "press" the others in AP classes and AP Exams. HUH? They can only score as high as a 5 on the AP Exams and a 100 in the AP class. DRATS! I guess this means your argument is invalid and quite lame. Coach Wise was and is wrong! The only thing his team needs to accomplish in order to obtain "perfection" is to score at least one more point than every opponent in every game this season. That's all! Winning by 100 against a weaker foe only makes him classless and unprofessional as an educator. (In the 3rd Ward or anywhere for that matter.)
Great Post -

true, you dont want to put in the last 5 and tell them not to score. But, there are other ways of playing and showing class..A 2-3 Zone would be appropriate Maybe a little man to man..throw in some 1-2-2 sit back zone action, anything , these are KIDS..These kids are not just from inside the district lines...Move ins from all over the H-Town area for one reason..Break the record..Not very challenging for the coach or the kids, a dinamic AAU super squad vs other public schools..WOW..Sure they are good go win another state championship, but do it the right way..With CLASS..Some just dont get it and never will...In this life, sooner or later, what comes around, goes around, you can bet on that!!! -
Sorry guys, have to disagree on this one..You can only slow down teams if you have better athletes..this yates team has a unique combination of great athletes and high skill level basketball players..the Ozen team you talk about would not slow em down, itwould have gotten ugly. Big Perk did not move very well his last 2 years in h.s. the guards were good, but not like these kids. The bigs were just bigger than other teams and guards were good enough to get it to them. It is Houston 4 million plus, and kids are moving in nowa days just to play with a buddy or 2 from an AAU team. Just not a community game with boundaries over there anymore.. Hate it for the teams in our area, because once that good team comes through here, they have to see those guys..Good News is GRADUATION is right around the corner!!!

Many noticing a decline in basketball talent
team first replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Actually it's not a decline, a little down overall, maybe..Thats the way it works..Ozen can't have a team possibly good enough to win state every year like they have the past 8 or 9,,And yes they've been that talented..One of the best guards in the state is still there...Memorial has its best team ever..they are GOOD...Kountze has a couple of real good players..Central has good players, but they are younger, Westbrook is young..H.J. has some good players, not great and a great system..Silsbee may be the best they have been..In A LONG TIME! Livingston just went to reg. semis last year and lost to state champ YATES. Orangefield and WOS could be as close as you can get for that 3rd spot..PNG is better than they have been in the last 6 or 7 yrs. Vidor and Nederland have some potential...Overall, this idea of decline is really a cycle, I hear Ozen has a heck of a fresh group, and Dove thinks the future of this game is over in Ham. Fannett...only time will tell, and time is moving swiftly...Merry Christmas..Hope Santa drops off some Chuck Taylors for you and yours.. -
Ned wins 58-53

Dove.....Is the term " skill set" used in the AAU world...What in the ???? Or maybe the transfer is from over seas and he thought a "skill set" was the term used for a skill saw!!!! We had a transfer once and you should have seen his " skill saw"... that kid could really cut up some lumber. -

PNG beats Central and Nederland loses Friday , Coach Faircloth no doubt. If Nederland wins , he splits with Coach Nuemann.
I have to disagree. Although Nederland has had injuries to the QB, PNG has had several injuries to there Offensive line. We have had a make shift offensive line all year. Our starting safety has been out the past couple games. Faircloth hands down no matter the outcome Friday Night.
Could not agree more, injuries are tough to overcome, and nederland has done a great job to get back into the playoff race. But Faircloth (imo) will be voted unanimous by his fellow coaches, coach of the year -
How Come Hamshire Fannett Gets No Respect
team first replied to BLUEDOVE3's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Wow, so the football team is working out on Friday before their game??? I wonder if that helps. -
No Look I'm glad that didnt last long, surely the ole if you dont play football you cant play basketball statement isnt still around...Please. If a kid wants to play basketball, then he should just get to play basketball..same in every other sports...Schools are there to serve kids, keep them involved in whatever they want to do..Even if its just one sport.

How Come Hamshire Fannett Gets No Respect
team first replied to BLUEDOVE3's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sir or Mam?..Actually AAU is played until kids graduate from h.s. which is about 18 yrs old..Little dribblers is usually played from 8 to 14 yrs old, with a few exceptions...The posters who talk about the universal off-season have a pretty good idea of what it does for the average h.s. basketball program...Which is not much..Most basketball coaches are looking for basketball players, not guys who look good in a mirror.
