Nederland 45 Central 44 Final
team first replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Actually...I heard the freshmen did play, just not too much...Gulley is a tough match up..a little different than Decarlos though..He can get in the lane and score in traffic, where as Decarlos can shoot from the outside better, and if he gets hot!!!!!! -
Yes...Maybe it was the same topic on another thread...But I will say this....Parents and athletes do not have a clue about the next level...Why??? Because most of them have not been there...The NEXT LEVEL..Is not like the level kids are on before they take the college route...Small towns with equal or lesser talent, big fish in small ponds, homesick for mom and pops, spoiled athletes being pampered along the way.....These are just a few reasons that the majority of the athletes in our area are so excited about the NEXT LEVEL and quickly exit to get back home...Save your cash, if it is going to happen for your kid, THE KID will make it happen, not the parent...Girlfriends and grades, genes, and society in general are all common factors for failure at that next level...So enjoy your kids and let them be kids don't be upset because it didn't work out for you at that next level, because guess what...It doesnt for most...You dont want to know the percentages....I promise!!!

Good point foreverdog...It's okay to get on the message board and support your team, but just don't make yourself look silly....The holding a jockstrap statement makes "aggies are we" say, "ooops, I forgot about that one..." :

yes u are correct on that lazeek -
REFEREES-----HJ / Silsbee Game????
team first replied to Lazeek's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
i disagree, since i had to deal with it first hand last year. Recheck my post about 4a and the bmt chapter not sending officials for underlevel games due to the fact that the bmt chapter was dropped for certain reasons for the varsity games. That is not rt for the lower level kids. No ifs ands or buts about it. -
REFEREES-----HJ / Silsbee Game????
team first replied to Lazeek's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
i will tell u exactly what is going on. one of the schools last night choose not to use the bmt chapter for the big game, i really cant blame them. So since the schools did not use the bmt chapter, the bmt chapter decided to punish the fresh and jv kids in the games before. (this has happened several times) It does not surprise me one bit that the bmt chapter did not call and tell hj this until 330. Whoever is running the bmt chapter is a joke. this happened several times last year in 4a with dayton not wanting to use the bmt chapter. The bmt chapter punished all the local 4a teams by not providing underlevel officials for the underlevel games. And the schools where not informed at all. Someone really need to check into that, it is only hurting the kids. -
abel hasnt beat english at ned yet, and it wont change tonight either. ned by 15

Wow...Wow..Wow...First of all scouts don't show up at hs gyms anymore..Kids are getting looks in the summer..This is not big school vs small school...This is..like Nost said, "Can the kid play." We don't know the answer to that..Can Robinson play D1..My opinion ..No..Too small..Guards at that level, are as quick, but bigger and taller and stronger and he cant shoot good enough at this point. Getting to the basket at that level being that small is non-existent..Can he playJUCO or NAIA, my opinion yes...Less talent there...If Arline and Holden play at Silsbee when it is a 3A school, does that mean they can't be as good as they were..Nope, Would sign em in a heart beat because...They could PLAY...Size at the D1 level is a near must...unless like the 2 L.U. guards...Can GO..vs most clubs...If they had size, they would be even more productive. Scouts are not going to say...Don't like the kid, he plays 3A..They will say" Hurry up and sign him................If he can go....All depends on what the scout thinks! END: The simple answer to why there are more schools getting kids signed at the 4A and 5A level is that there are more kids to choose from at the 4A and 5A level... Thought that was a given.

so do central and vidor play each other or not? ??? -
You can have athletes..that cant play basketball....Sterling has basketball players and are coached well...Now if you're a basketball player, and also athlete...Let's get you signed up buddy... seen alot of athletes who can go steal it...go get it and run like a deer, but if you don't know what to do with it ...( that means be able to play )..The game becomes tough to be successfull. I've seen alot of non- athletes be able to play because they had a solid skill level game..FUNDAMENTALS MY FRIENDS...DRIBBLE PASS AND SHOOT...Comes from staying in the gym and starting at an early age..........The problem with kids today....They don't do that...NBA LIVE JUST DOES NOT COUNT !!!!!

Boutte applies for Executive AD job at PAISD
team first replied to outanup's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Come on now Bluedove...what do you mean...everybody in the state knows how the boundaries work..You have to live within the boundaries of a particular school to be eligible to participate in extra curricular activities....This is true in MOST cases, unless the school is special or MAGNET....Wow ! But as everyone knows if Lincoln was around....Lincoln has been gone and most move on...School districts are different and families move in and move out of places...Teams are teams, you play with the hand your dealt, and you don't make excuses......If we just had this kid or that kid...Alot of kids can play....So let the real games begin, and if the team we cheer for does'nt do well...You can always blame the coaches!!!!!! Parents will anyway, because their kid is good enough to play at the next level...Just ask them!!! -

One more question....Is Executive A.D. like Executive Principal, cause if it is ,this is a first for me....Maybe like Medical Magnet....Like a CEO of a hospital or something..Come on...Let's not make it sound any more important than it is....The executive A.D. will be grooming x amount of future professional athletes that will be performing at an all time...YA DA YA DA YA DA....It is what it is....Just like all the other A.D.'s.................................................... -

Only one problem....Unless Coach K heads to p.a. the Nederland kids will stay in Nederland....That's where they LIVE...inside the boundary lines... The difference is the SCHOOL DISTRICT...where they can excel in Education, as well as athletics....Great kids, who are doing well in both. I just wish Nederland were some type of Magnet where they could get more medical students out of there....Question: If Boutte goes over to p.a. , is he a threat to recruit those kids???? Thought that was illegal in H>S> sports........ -

The Greatest Team in Southeast Texas History

Earl Evans did not play in 86.............WestBrook of 93-94 would have beaten that 01 Ozen team without a doubt.... Omar, Donny, Tyson J. and Jamal C. and others were way too much...Remember Perk was a youngster, Omar woulda sat him down with 5 quick ones....This team ended up 2nd in State and got beat by eventual state champ Willowridge, at the buzzer....3- D. 1's and 3 jucos, on the same team...they were nastttty. -
Do you mean Nederland????? But you are right.....Great Job!!!!

There are a few things very good players have in common: 1. Attitude - There is a humility that these players have. I'm talking about confident and not cocky being a strong point. Realizing that I'm not perfect and I do not know everything, please coach me. Maybe the most important is if things do not go right for me. I'm not going to pout of show my butt, I'm going to deal with it support my team and learn form it. 2. Heart - There is a reason why the very good ones win BIG. They've invested large amounts of time to their craft. They realize they might not can do it own their own, but they will not go down easy. They are willing to make whatever sacrifice is necessary for the team to win. Magic Johnson is a great example of this...Could score but had a different kind of role.... 3.Commitment - This is what I believe kids may stuggle with the most. In this day and time, there are numerous distractions. Kids get satisfied with how good they are now, and do not see how good they might become. Burnout plays a part, but i'm not sold on this. I believe if kids get early attention, it tends to help them become satisfied of where they are.. In alot of cases, kids tend to lose their drive..... 4. Physical - The history goes back years..Those kids who have all the tools and do not have the others mentioned above. Hate to see kids who end up playing too early in the adult rec leagues..Texas was on ESPN vs UCLA the other night...I heard this young man was down at the PA league wearin out some old dudes.... does not really compare..Hope he reads this....It's not too late, at least not yet!!!!!
