Enrollment Numbers-- What did your school turn in???
JAV replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It's hard to believe Hillsboro only has 461 students. Passing thru it on I-35, it appears to look larger. -
I didn't read where anybody was smearing anybody's name. A question was asked, it was answered by someone "close to the team" (saying that it DID happen) and it's just gone from there. Noone called anybody names. Don't get so uptight about it. Like Coop said....get back on the subject. WOS wins BIG!

I do respect other's opinions (yours included). I can understand how some people feel that no disrespect is/was intended. On the other hand some posters are now more aware that some people do think it's unsportsmanlike. I think it would be a great thing to bring up to the coaches. They may be completely unaware that some people take offense to it. It could be a great time of teaching to the kids. I respect your opinion because you didn't come on here saying that this was a jealousy thing. Trust me, it's not. I noticed this at the beginning of the 2nd half...at that point Jasper was winning. BTW - The stangs came out in the second half, simplified the offense and blew Jasper off the ball. The linemen won that game for the stangs. Congratulations on the win.

I thought this was going to be a post about can Cleveland beat WOS in the post season play! lol
-
J-dog94: People from WOS have answered the question, yet you don't seem to like their answers. You keep trying to convince us that it IS disrespectful when we have ALL said that we fully believe that the Mustangs do NOT think it is being disrespectful. As a matter of fact, we don't believe that the team itself even THINKS about whether or not it is disrespectful. Why don't you just say "OK" and be done with it instead of trying to get us to stop doing it or trying to convince us that it is rude.
-
Let's see....How about I say it like this....I don't think it's disrespectful for ANY team to run out to the middle of the field. I don't think that WOS players have done it out of disrespect. I think the coaches at WOS DO teach character and responsibility...and discipline.
-
THANK YOU! I was beginning to believe only WOS fans were the only ones who didn't care one way or the other. I feel like you do. If you don't like it....beat them.

Know what, Mav? You have a chip on your shoulder or something. I went back and re-read the posts. My opinion was that it didn't bother me and I never knew it was a rule and I felt pretty sure WOS didn't know it was a rule. Then YOU bashed me with your sarcastic "you don't understand class" comment. Who is the pot to call the kettle black? We tried to tell you that it wasn't disrespectful in our opinion and then you go get the phantom rule-book thing. The field house number at WOS is 409-883-5530. Why don't you call Coach Hooks and tell him that not only is it disrespectful for his team to run out on the logo of the other team, but it is against the UIL rules, too! Maybe you should call UIL and we'll get disqualified this year. Would that make you happy? We have all stated our opinion yet you won't leave it alone and you won't accept that every single WOS poster has said that it was not meant as disrespect and no one but you seemed to know that it is a "rule".
-
I don't understand it either...just what I've read on this and another post. Hey...it may depend on the ol' rivalry thing, too.
-
I've apparently ticked somebody off this morning. (And it's just an OPINION thing!) LOL I know, let's have a spelling contest instead of a popularity contest. Maybe it makes someone feel better to go in and subtract from someone else. LOL....too funny!
-
LOL...Must be an ORANGE thing....
-
And baseball players don't run through a tunnel either. They are announced before the game and line up on the baseline in front of their dugout. Apples and oranges. I know, let's talk about basketball!!!! I think they ALL run out and meet in the middle, regardless of what's on the floor. Come on, guys.....
-
Wow---a REAL rule, huh? I stand corrected. Now, let's see how many teams OTHER THAN WOS run out onto the field, whether it be in the middle or not....the rule DOES say don't get on the field at all, doesn't it? All of them should just run on the track after running through their tunnel. Wait a minute...does Lumberton have a track around it's football field? I can't remember. And I am wondering, do the teams HAVE to warm up in an endzone before the second half? Cause we don't warm up before the second half. There we go, breaking the rule again. AND, I seem to recall that both teams always come out in the same endzone....there MUST be a broken rule somewhere in there. Why don't we call the "don't jump on someone else's field police?"
-
Well, we told you and others what we thought, then got criticized for thinking that way. It's NOT a rule or it wouldn't be done. Until it IS a rule, we probably aren't going to stop. I dunno....I don't have any say so anyway.
-
I find it interesting that only WOS people think it is not disrespectful, too. Could it be because we have never considered it to be a "disrespectful act"? We just run to the middle of the field. Big friggin' deal.

Should everyone suited up touch the Field
JAV replied to bigd92's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
You are right. Everyone does play an important part and if the team wins a state championship, everyone gets a ring. We can only hope that someone who does not play often realizes why he doesn't play and yet still supports the team. My daughter played basketball her senior year. She had played her freshman year and then changed schools but did not go back out until her senior year. She made every practice, every game. She played a total of about 5 minutes her entire senior year. (5 minutes of real time, not playing time). LOL. She enjoyed being a part of the team. She didn't seem to be embarassed that she wasn't playing. I wasn't embarassed that she didn't play. She was better at cheerleading (which she did during football season.) She had fun at basketball practice and the games. It was her choice. I did not discourage her from being there if that was what she wanted to do. -
Mav-for your information, I think WOS has a lot of class. We have a team full of not just good kids, but GREAT kids. They are well-mannered and disciplined. We don't play dirty. Jumping up and down in the middle of the field is NOT a rule. The refs might have done that at one game, but perhaps the coach from the other side told them that, I don't know. If it WAS a rule, it wouldn't be done, EVER! The officials would learn that and would most definitely enforce it against WOS. Furthermore, how stupid is it to get all worked up over something like this?
-
Exactly my thoughts tam....What a weird thing to post..and make a big deal out of. I have never seen WOS try to stomp around and tear up someone's logo, nor have I ever seen another team try to do it to ours. We go to the middle, jump up and down (usually on top of one another) then run to our sideline endzone area, kneel down and say a prayer before the game and after halftime. Just don't see anything disrespectful about that. I know the original poster didn't name names, but I am only commenting on WOS and what our players do. They may not be talking about us. Regardless, I don't see a prob with getting fired up in the middle of the field before a game.

NO! When they stop basing the coaching on a win/loss ratio and a coach can get fired because of it, THEN everyone can play. Until then....the best players are out on the field. This isn't little league. Let there be a recreation league if they want everyone to play. -
Mav-wonder what rule number that is with the UIL. Haven't seen that one before or NOONE would do it! (If it was truly a RULE!) Maybe it's just a wish list for teams that never win anything so they don't have anything to be fired up about, I dunno. If it was a RULE, it wouldn't be happening. Furthermore, one team usually is already off the field by the time the other comes out, or the other team just doesn't go out to the middle. I've been to 20 years of games and I've never seen two teams fight in the middle of the field before the game.
-
They don't shave yet and they are still kicking booty? Maybe the problem lies with the people on the other sites, but what a great compliment!!! We're young, true.
-
Then the coach of the home team should tell the officials to be out in the middle of the field to keep the visitor's from jumping on the other team's logo. Someone also mentioned that the coaches should tell them not to do it. Yeah, right. "Ok, guys. You boys don't go jumping up and down on the little bird out in the middle of the field, ok? You're going to hurt the feelings of the other team if you do that." Gimme a break. It's football, and they want to get their team fired up. Let the home team run them off the field with the score if that's the case. There are some pretty picky people on here.
-
Because that is where Coach Hooks wants to play, I am told.
-
Whatever. The kids are fired up after they run through the tunnel. What difference does it make if they jump up and down trying to get the crowd fired up or their adrenaline going or whatever? They don't taunt after they make a touchdown, so what is the problem if it is before the game?
