I didn't think Hardin would win, but I've always thought they were pretty good! I hope they can pull it out, this would be the biggest upest in 2A!! -
[Hidden Content] Lady Cats make quick work of Tarkington Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader BEAUMONT — Chris Jost can count on a single hand how many times one of his teams scored two points in a single quarter and still won by 20. Heck he might be able to do it on a single finger. That is exactly what the Orangefield Lady Bobcats did Tuesday night in Ozen Gym as the Lady Bobcats defeated the Tarkington Lady Longhorns 44-24 even after scoring two points in the second quarter. “I just told them that was a weird game,†Jost said. “Other than that second quarter, the other three quarters were some of the best basketball we played in the last two weeks. It wasn’t always pretty. I have not had a team win many games like that, especially in the playoffs.†Orangefield (22-10) will now face No. 3 Madisonville in the Class 3A Region III Area Round on Friday. The site and time were not set as of press time. Tarkington (19-12) took its only lead of the game off its first basket in the third quarter with the score 16-15. It would be the only shot the Lady Longhorns made in the third frame. Lone Orangefield (22-10) senior Aimee Scales picked the right time to start knocking down shots as Scales scored six in the third as Orangefield started to build a lead. Scales had a tremendous all-around game with eight points, six rebounds, four blocks, three steals and three assists. “In the first half their post defense kind of shut Aimee down,†Jost said. “She hit some big shots in the third quarter to help us pull apart.†Marissa Wyatt, who led all players with 16 points, had five in the third as the Lady Bobcats opened a 30-16 lead after three quarters. The second quarter saw the Lady Bobcats go ice cold from the field and Tarkington hit some shots down the stretch to close to within 15-14 at the break. It was not in part to Orangefield playing terrible defense either. The Lady Bobcats forced 17 turnovers in the first half and 31 in the game. Kasidy Hayes was the chief Lady Bobcat on defense all night long with eight steals and nine rebounds to go with about 15 deflections. She also scored five points. “Kasidy is our intangible,†Jost said. “She gets boards, steals and assists all night long. Tonight was a prime example of that.†Orangefield was yo 13-3 after the first quarter as Wyatt struck for seven points in the game’s opening period. Tarkington only scored off a three-pointer from DaVette McCall who finished with a team-high 10 points. The Lady Longhorns managed to score eight points in the fourth after falling behind big to the Lady Bobcats. Ashton Wagner finished the night with seven points, eight rebounds and four steals. Kacey Juneau finished with four points and four rebounds for Orangefield. Orangefield won the rebound battle 34-33 and was 10-for-17 from the free throw line. Tarkington was 2-for-11 from the charity stripe. [IMG][Hidden Content]] Orangefield's Aimee Scales (33) makes a move on Tarkington's Rachel Sharp (43) and heads for the basket during the 2nd period of Tuesday night's playoff game. The Lady Bobcats defeated Tarkington 44-24 in Beaumont.

Not much talk on the girls side at all this year, but does anyone know if the Ozen girls beat Kingwood Park in the bi-district round of the playoffs? UIL brackets have them beating them, but I was told otherwise.
