So what are the suggestions to get the athletic department more involved with communicating with the HF community and discuss common goals? I know for a fact the coaches don't like losing, what coach does? Maybe a townhall meeting with the athletic dept.
Maybe that is the answer, or at least the beginning to finding a answer. I doubt seriously that anyone from HF Admin. would want to openly discuss school issues on this board. It may be what some would want, but not really the right thing to do. I know I wouldn't.

Hamshire Fannett Basketball Program
hawkdad replied to BLUEDOVE3's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
86Hawk what exactly does lack in basketball mean? In '99 District Champions and lost to the eventual state champs Mexia by 6 or 8 can't remember, and lost to Kountze by single digits in the YMBL (Kountze lost that year to Mexia in Regional Finals). And I think two or three years later they went 2 or 3 rounds deep in playoffs. Now were we a Kountze or HJ defnitely not. Since Tarver left a lot of things have been different at HF. Not only in Football but Basketball and Track and Field as well. Is it talent? I have no clue, but everyone has their slumps. HJ wasn't that great for sure in 98 and 99, and maybe a few years after that.
The fact that you had to go back 8 to 10 years to say you made the playoffs is one reason a person would not consider HF a BBall powerhouse. I agree that talent does run in cycles. The difference is some teams cycles mean a short stay in the playoffs while other teams it may mean not making the playoffs for years. That is where AAW's comments come in to play. At HJ it all starts with BBall. Boys and Girls. The other sports take a back seat for the kids in their early years. There are years HJ may be very good at some other sport but it is hard to sustain because of the BBall attitude. Being 3A puts you behind the 8 ball from the start with smaller enrollment. Silsbee being the larger school in the district has had more sucess with more than one sport being a playoff team in both BBall and Football. If the culture at HF is football oriented then you will probably experience alot of cycles. If ya"ll are thinking it's a coaching issue I am in no way qualified to enter that discussion. -
HF really needs WOS to beat Silsbee again, that would make things pretty intresting.
I agree. HF is going to need some help. WOS has already played both OF and HJ the second half. If they were to win out they could also make things enteresting for the 3rd spot.
38 - That's Varsity, JV, Freshmen and the young lady that sings the national anthem. ;D
Over 800, I can't find the numbers from two years ago.
I looked up all the schools in 21-3A last year and I think Silsbee had 880 students but that changes from year to year. Silsbee was the only school over 700 at the time with HJ, WOS and HF in the mid to low 600's. OF had mid 500's with BC losing alot of students due to the hurricane but they were close to OF. Now, I'm trying to remember from a year ago so don't hold me to exact numbers.

The Lady Hawks played another great game tonight defeating the Sislbee Tigers 66-53. They are now 7-0 in district and 22-5 on the year. The Lady Tigers played very hard and deserve alot of credit for their effort. Congrats Lady Hawks and keep it going.
Since my daughter plays for HJ I haven't been to many of the boys games. But the 2 games I did go to Turner averaged about 35 per game. Anyway, I saw both games against Kountze!! ;D

If that sophomore isn't on the court at the beginning of the game then Silsbee is gonna jump all on Hj early. Hj starting 5 is too weak and small for Silsbee. Silsbee goes on a 10-0 run untill the subs come in.
I will admit that Silsbee will give HJ alot more match-up problems than Kountze ever could. Kountze had several 10 point runs during the last game against HJ only to have HJ put 10 point runs right back at them. Silsbee is too good to think you can overcome that several times in one game. HJ loses their post in the Kountze game with 4 min left in the 4th quarter and it made absolutely no difference in the outcome of the game. That would not be the case in the Silsbee game. They will find a way to take advantage of the situation. For HJ to win they will need to be better than either game they played against Kountze.
Those 10 points runs have gone on for the past 3 (or more) years between these two teams. Silsbee busted out 18-0 in the Regional Finals in 2008, only to have HJ come back and take a 6 point lead, before Silsbee rallied and one by 10 (or more). That's what determines where your guts are - how you handle the 10 point runs. For instance, the 21-6 point opening that Kountze had against HJ could have caused a lesser team to roll over and give up. I'll admit, some of the fans in Sour Lake thought that (my wife was one of them). But Sutherland has taught those players to never-say-die. Back in 2007, during their State Run, HJ had to overcome a double-digit deficit in all 6 of their play-off games. The average deficit was 14 points. HJ will need to overcome one or two of those 10 point runs this Friday Night in order to win.
I agree and think HJ will, or hope they will. What I have noticed about HJ thru the years is they seem to do whatever it takes to win. I'm not saying they win them all, but they rise to the occasion more often than not.

Ozen Puncer Suspended/Charges May Be Filed
hawkdad replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I wouldn't think they would let her play again. This was not a punch during the middle of the game where you could say it was in the heat of the battle. This was premeditated. She looked for an opening and found it. If they excuse this it would be the worse possible signal to send to kids that try to play the game the right way. Now, I would not be surprised if this doesn"t help her get an administrative position at Ozen or within the BISD at a later date. It's never too early to work on that resume.. ;D -

I thought about it again and decided several of these games could go either way. Bridge City/ HF-- Draw, they will still be playing Saturday morning.. Silsbee/ HJ-- HJ wins a close game sometime Friday night before midnight. WOS/ OF-- WOS wins by as much as WOS wants!! ;) ;D

Both teams finish the first round of district with the same 2-3 record. Winner of this game gets back to .500 for district and takes sole possesion of 3rd in the district race. Any guesses how the game will play out?
