Anyone know the final with Lufkin and Livingston...and Hudson and HJ?
I believe the final between HJ and Hudson was 62-57. If that's not correct it was close to that score. The North Forest team was good. Silsbee got behind early but played them pretty even the second half. I was surprised at the progress Silsbee has made. They will represent themselves well this year. -
Final Silsbee 25 Huntington 20 Silsbee to face Hardin-Jefferson tomorrow at 1:30pm.
Looking at the bracket HJ and Silsbee should play tomorrow at 12 noon. That's also what the coach told the players. If you show up at 1:30 to watch this one you may be late. -

Because some of these kids you named aren't even close to some of the kids 90 miles west of here.
Who cares about Houston??? You are a HF guy......so quit living through H Town!!! :D :D :D
If the team you pull for doesn't have anyone to add to the list, the next best contribution to the thread he could come up with was to down play the abilities of the players that are on the list. It's one of those "how can I make your list look bad" comments so that I feel better about my unfortunate situation!! But don't get mad at the guy. This is part of Dove's healing process!! :D :D

Orangefield at #14 Stafford Predictions
hawkdad replied to Bobcat1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Haven't seen either team play this year but dont see one team winning big. OF usually plays their competition strong. This could turn out to be a real good one!! -
I'll take HJ in this one. They are really starting to come together. HJ 70 Kelly 45
-
HJ beat Kirbywille 63-32. HJ is starting to gel. Kirbyville is very athletic. They will only get better..

Any predictions on this one??

Kountze was playing defense with three players most of the 2nd half.
Why do you think that was the case?
Steve--don't ask so many logical questions. These questions will only be followed by more excusses and then the whole thread goes to pot. Bottom line, since HJ won we knew there was going to be circumstances that allowed this to happen (remember the first game). I will admit that there were 2 really exciting things about this game that I remember the most. "Kountze Dunks" (before and during the game) and "HJ's scoring more points to Win". Which one did I enjoy the most?? Let me see--I'm still thinking--O.K. It was the "WIN". But I did like the dunks!!!
Anyone have a bracket?
Central did win their game so it will be HJ vs Central Friday 6:30pm at McDonald Gym.
-
Central plays the winner of the West Brook/Hempstead game at 9am Friday. HJ will play the winner of that game Friday at 6:30pm.
-
HJ has a couple of good players hurt that will not play Tuesday Nite. HJ should be fine but it sure does shorten the bench. HJ 65 Memorial 50

I would pick HJ either way, but with Nederland having to fight the injury bug it looks like HJ by alot. HJ 70 Ned 45

First of all he is almost 40!!!! He is older than me!!! Yes he is at a disadvantage that most good players went to Ozen, but with the "legend" gone he should be able to keep and actually get some of those players to go to Central now. So you think that in 20 years that you will be able to compare Sutherland and Rice's resume??? If so you are crazy!!!! And there is a huge difference in a 4a playoff and a 3a playoff team. You think that Ozen and OF were close last season??? There is a difference. I hope that Central has a great season and makes a deep run in the playoffs as well. See it is easy for me to congratulate and wish a team well that beat my team..........it is very hard for some on this board to do that!!!! ;) ;) ;)
So what is the HUGE difference between 4A and 3A playoff teams?
If you want to start with the obvious it would be enrollment. HJ has 650 while Central has 1450. Now I'm not saying this always matters. Good basketball tradition programs will allow some smaller schools to continue to produce a product that can and will beat teams that have twice the enrollment as them (ie Kountze 400 to Silsbee 880). It's not that uncommon. What a good question would be is how are these teams able to compete at all against these schools with twice the enrollment. I personally believe it's tradition and coaching. By the way, I would love to see Sutherland get his hands on a larger enrollment school and see just what he could do with it. I personally would not want to be playing against him, much less with the numbers stacked against me as well. This wouldn't be good!!

Who has the Best Basketball Team in Hardin County???
hawkdad replied to swagg's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I am a former Kountze player and i know that Silsbee has the Best team in Hardin county... But that does not mean that they can't be beat because they did... its Silsbee Kountze and then HJ.... Ktz goes over HJ because they have more offensive threats HJ will have to rely on beating teams on the Defensive end this year.
O.K. I will agree with you on how the teams may use their talents to win games. So would it be safe to say that HJ's defense is better than Kountze's offense since the one game they played heads up HJ won? And, since that result is indisputable, is it now safe to say that HJ would have to be ranked higher than Kountze, since that seems to be the purpose of this thread. Or is this the one comparison where head to head games don't mean anything (since Kountze lost) and are being completely ignored?
