Draft for a split conference for small schools

Well, throw Kirbyville into the mix. Do you want to go to Anahuac and East Chambers on a cold January Tuesday night? -

It won't get much bigger. It's landlocked between Frisco and Lake Lewisville and almost completely built up. It's about 27,000 now and will struggle to break 30,000. School district is terrible. Very nice facilities though.... Yes, I had thought about applying in Little Elm a few years ago, and asked a friend of mine who teaches in Lewisville and he rolled his eyes and said, " You don't want the job. The place has problems." But i don't know anything else. The school is pretty however... -

Thanks Coop. The upper 2A, if Kirbyville moves up to 3A would be. Anahuac Buna Newton East Chambers Woodville Warren. I would hate that trip to and from Anahuac to Newton....Pack a sandwich and a thermos of coffee. -

Do you have a site where I can look at the 2A schools? -

Orangefield, Coldspring, WOS, Cleveland, and Splendora will have 2 hour one way travel for district games. That's ridiculous. That kind of travel is necessary out in West Texas, but not around here. I think the fact of having neighborhood districts is far more important than this "equaling" : the playing field concept. I have to agree, that is a heck of a travel budget, especially for basketball/baseball. I would hate to have to know I would get home on a Tuesday night at Midnight+ and have to be at school at 7:30am the next day.... -
WO-S ISD TAKS Issue Dead!!
KDOSullivan replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That's a legitimate point. I know this because my wife is a teacher. True, and most of the kids could care less about the TAKS until it is their 11th grade exit TAKS, and they need to it walk. The problem the ISD's have with getting rid of teachers is, who are they going to get to replace the ones they let go? Math and science teachers don't grow on trees....Heck, it is getting harder to find elementary teachers. There is so much baloney in the teaching profession now, it is hard to find people who want to go into it, and even harder to find ones to stay. We have a young man who is teaching in our district, came into the district because of insurance, but because he has 4 kids, I look for him to leave at the end of the year. It is a combination of the baloney in the school business, and the fact he is working a second job to make ends meet. He told me if he went into his second job full time, he could triple his salary. I know in the Dallas-Ft Worth area the pay for teachers start in the $40,000 range, and while the schools within the Triangle pay (fairly) well, get outside into East Texas and the pay drops to basically state pay which is around $28,000. It is the old Adam Smith theory, if you don't pay enough, your workers will go to work for someone else, and unless there is some sort of a tie to the area, some of the best Lamar grads are going to Dallas,or Austin, or San Antonio....I have a son who is going to graduate from Lamar and is going to try and teach. He and most of his friends who are looking at teaching are already saying they are gone to Dallas, or Austin...It is the money and the fact why stay here? Listen, I know I am crabbing, and I actually like my job, but have told my son and my school kids who are thinking about teaching, see if you can do something else. It is just not the same as it was 10-15-20 years ago. -

KDOSullivan replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
But to even bring it up for discussion, well, is madness. Don't some people sit down and thing stuff through? It is like, it makes good sense to them, or I want it this way, this is the way it should be....I don't know...I got to hurry up and retire... -

They know Coop, they know. There is some sort of political angle we are missing here....And don't tell me there is not politics in schools... : : : : : : : : : -
WO-S ISD TAKS Issue Dead!!
KDOSullivan replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
As another teacher, I have got to agree with you. It is one of the nuttiest things I have heard of...You know good and well, you and I can sit down with some kids and work with them for months, and sad to say, some kids just can't see the concept, be it math, or physics or supply and demand, or conjugating the verbs. I have been working with a kid on their TAKS everyday for weeks at lunch. We both bring sandwiches and work during our break. I have gotten so upset in the past week, I literally came home and cried. I do not know what else I can do for the kid. Heck, his parents have spent a fortune on outside tutors, and the tutors I think have hurt more than helped. Now, if schools are starting to literally punish a kid about TAKS, well, somebody needs to explain to these politicians, some of these kids are not going to Harvard or Yale, or MIT, or even Lamar. Some of these kids are going to be roofing your house, picking up your garbage, pouring concrete. All good, hard-working, honest jobs. All jobs the economy needs. I just don't know sometimes.....I just do not know.... ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? -
LC-M FOOTBALL 2009/Who Will The Bears Hire??
KDOSullivan replied to skipper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Can LC-M pay enough? Will they? Does anyone know how much he is making in Kirbyville? I really would like to see LC-M do well. They generally have a good crowd at their games. If they started to win, the area would go "Battlin' Bear" wild. -
WO-S Bus Transportation voted down
KDOSullivan replied to WO-S 89's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Probably not.....Some schools really can't afford to start the bus after school programs. Look at the size of some the districts. They couldn't afford to kids all over creation, and they are having enough playing for fuel for regular bus runs. Newton still carries their kids home, and take a look at a map of the district. It is pretty darn big. Most schools would never tie the TAKS to playing ball..... -
WO-S ISD TAKS Issue Dead!!
KDOSullivan replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The kids who fail TAKS are already put in TAKS math, science recovery class. I do not understand putting the kid out for a year. the second part is the important part----work harder--students, teachers, and admins You know, I have seen teachers and administrators bust their tails and the kid comes up short....There is just so much that can be done. The kid today is not the kid of 25, 20, 15 or even 10 years ago. They have a different attitude, a different belief system. I have seen teachers come before school and stay late, trying to help kids. Some of the kids just won't come for help. They want someone to "do it for them." -

WO-S ISD TAKS Issue Dead!!
KDOSullivan replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If this passes and it could look for our enrollment numbers to go down further. It is not going to hurt just athletes. It is going to hurt band, choir, One Act Play, the Art Club competitions, VICA competitions, welding competitions, a whole host of other contests in which a kid may mis-step on one of the 4 TAKS tests. Look as I have said in other posts, there are kids who work their eyes out and finally pass the TAKS math in late April of their senior year, or finally get their diploma taking the test during the summer. -
PAN article on Coach Burnett
KDOSullivan replied to YankeeDawg's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
When I was at Lamar in the late 70s, I was in a few classes with Matt. He was a likable guy. I do remember he was one of the few football players who actually made class, studied and did his assignments. You know a lot of the football players that were in your classes in those days wouldn't speak to us "regular" people outside of class. Matt would, even with his football buddies. -
I wonder if people on the street would spend $2-3K to get the best AP Microeconomics teacher in the state???? Sure, the same day the economics dept. brings the income the football program does, no problem. Never understood what makes a football coach worth so much more in education than a teacher........I guess now I do. :-[ Actually if one was to really look at the numbers one would find football does not make that much money in the big picture. When is the last time 14,000 packed a stadium to watch a microeconomics test? And in some way, that's what's wrong with America......Just think about it...

I wonder if he could approach North Texas about a buy out? You know if he doesn't turn it around this year, the year afterwards, he is going to land on his feet a good 4A or 5A job... dodge has around 500,000 reasons to gut it out as long as he can in Denton. For $500K, most would stand on their ear....

**Memorial Coaching List Here**
KDOSullivan replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
i was honestly wondering what your opinion of this list was. Im really suprised they didnt get more recognizable names to apply. out of these names is Langston the only one you'd recommend? I know I said this earlier, but this list makes me sad. I think I would be tempted after thinking about this a little, to bring someone in from out of state to see if they could give a little spark to the program. :-\
