Has anyone heard about any of the Jasper County schools opening anytime soon? Esp. Buna ISD? Thanks

I think when I retire in 2 years, I will move away from the coast....I was born here 50+ years ago, and I think I want to live in a non-hurricane area for the rest of my life.... :'(

Made a quick trip into "downtown" Mauriceville. Lots of people have stayed, but all businesses are closed up tight. The only thing of note I saw was 3 DPS troopers sitting/waiting at Crawdad's store....

Or go to some small town that is away this weekend and used their field....Like the Tomato Bowl in Jacksonville, or Tiger Stadium in Mt Vernon...Heck, Winnsboro Red Raider stadium is pretty cool...

Here in Mauriceville. Lost all my trees in Rita, so nothing left to fall on the house.....May go to North Texas later if the lights are out too long down here to seek some a/c.....

Also, Buna ISD, Kirbyville ISD, and Evadale ISD will be closed Thursday-Fri. so the " Yellow dogs" won't be on the road slowing down traffic.

I found some T-bone steaks too that will be cooked. Be careful down in BC. We are in Mauriceville, and probably won't need the boat. ( Maybe)

You know what sort of shocks me is that high school football is still scheduled. I also heard a rumor that Tarkington's Supt. really didn't want to move "his teams" game to Thursday night again Buna. He wanted it to go ahead on Friday.

Heck, I'm nervous....

We may just have to ride it out....There is no way to get the 211 people out of here. Everything is over in central Texas. Friday is too late....

Have any schools cancelled for at least Friday? I don't want to send the kids out in 50mph winds even if it hits Freeport.

Buna is the team to beat. They only lost their 2B and LF to graduation.

I totally agree. I too was at the ball game and along the fence at the first base line. Yes I was on the PNG side. Both calls at first were very close. But thats not what bothers me. When PNG was winning several of their fans were makeing rude comments about Vidor and really rubbin it in to the Vidor fans. When Vidor won however the same fans, one in particular, turns around and point directly at a schoolboard member (of all people) and yells, "you Vidor people are trash and you Su*#. Your umpires here in Vidor also Su*#." When I showed him my badge however he took off to the parking lot. Why do the people across the Neches have to be so ugly to us poor ole' Vidorians. I guess we know who the trashy person was that night. I do not know why PNG people are like this when they lose a game. I remember when Vidor beat them in the 70s for the first time in years. Grown men yelling at the Vidor football players calling them every name in the book. Wanting to meet them in the parking lot after them game. 16-17 year old kids being cussed at like they had killed the grown man's family. Just something wrong with you folks and your sports down in PNG. Do you not have a life? BTW: Next time the refs or the umps give PNG a couple of questionable calls get on the forum and " Man up" and say PNG got the benefit of some bad calls.

I am amazed at how much of a baseball school Buna has become. 10 years ago, basketball was "everything."

Has anyone heard any rumors about some of the big money people in the area giving to the football program? Or even thinking about giving?
