No they don't really create their own shots at the three point line. They rely on their man helping on the drive. We run our dribble drive against man or zone.
-
We have one gym for volleyball and one for basketball during the off season.
-
What teams/schools does HJ lil dribblers compete against?
-
here is another thought to get some discussion on the original topic. Shooters vs scorers. Depends a little on the system they are in. We are a pressure defense and dribble drive offensive team. (if you can't dribble drive then your minutes are limited a little) We are trying to develop players that can drive, score, and shoot. We have two players shooting about 30-35% from behind the line. One has made 47 3's and the other has made 38 - (29 games) not sure how those numbers compare to the other "shooters" in the area but I know the opposing coach's yell "SHOOTER SHOOTER" every time one of them catches the ball... Lol Our gym is available a lot during the off season for our girls and the past 3 years we have had great turnout in numbers of girls that access it. There has been a direct correlation between this group putting in work in the off-season and having team success in the season.
-
He states the point he was making was that their gym was accessible to their athletes, not that they have the model for us to copy. I think this has turned into a great discussion on how to improve setx girls basketball in general.
-
This is sooooo true. Something I have been trying to get our girls to do more of is watch the game!

Interesting topic from Nick at Royreportmedia.com I completely agree that with girls - playing year round any sport is too much on their body and leads to injury. "Over the course of the season, ACL injuries have hit the girls’ basketball world hard and have sidelined the top talent in the Metroplex this season and in the state. This past week, another top talent was sidelined as De Soto’s Sa’Myah Smith, a four-star recruit and the top-ranked player in the Class of 2022 by ESPN, is out for the remainder for the season. Smith picked up this injury in the championship game of the Sandra Meadows Classic against Duncanville back on December 28. It is rare to see top players get hurt by one injury but one a question that may be repeatedly asked is if there is any rest for players coming into the high school season after the summer circuit. Many basketball players nowadays play year-round, if they want to be seen as a top talent or a rising star in their respective team but now, if you don’t play club, travel or any kind of AAU basketball in the summer, your high school career is all that you have in order to have a lasting impression on the recruits. Some long-time basketball fans can recall three years ago where there was a big discussion on whether summer leagues in the basketball community was harming the game and taking a toll on players. But in the present day, the summer circuit is big and unfortunately, overshadows high school careers with the “exposure,” brand being a big part of why. The summer circuit may be good for the media exposure but in the long term, it can take a toll on a player’s body in order to stay fit for the high school season, the career that should be the main part of a player’s career when having exposure in the basketball season. It is very unfortunate that in today’s world where social media is everything that all a player needs is a summer league highlight reel from what they did in the course of the summer season and that is the main key for them to get prime exposure. All players should focus on their high school career, as we all focus on what a player does in high school, not in the summer. If summer ball might be a thought for you to expand your game, explore other options as long-term health for your high school season could be affected." Nick Alvarado

I don't think that its not being taught - every coach I know teaches shooting. it is more about girls in this area don't get in the gym during the off season and work to become great shooters. During the season is not the time for this - it has to be done in the off season. The problem is much deeper than how coaches are teaching or not teaching. I think it has much more to do with what is emphasized by the school, the media, the parents, lil dribbles programs etc. I would bet everyone of the girls mentioned above has put in some serious time in the off-season shooting.

Amazing that coaches don’t report their scores anywhere. It’s embarrassing. How hard is it to just put it on max preps?

Proud of our girls - they played hard. Our seniors showed up and competed. We got beat 24-9 in second quarter and never recovered from that run. We will bounce back - HJ is very good and played a great defense game against us. Credit to them because that is the worst we have shot all year.
