**SETXsports Girls Basketball Rankings Week of Jan. 6th**
Jdad replied to Cat22's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Wins HJ ahead 18-12, Loses HJ wins again, If you go through their games and opponets HJ wins again. If Orangefield wins next friday night they should be up there also. Even in Colledge a loss doesn't make you fall down the chart if the ones below you have more loses. In the last two weeks since your last poll HJ-1loss, Memorial 3-loses, Central 2-loses, Orangefield 3-loses. Only HJ fell in your poll. Mustbe HJ hater? -

I agree the loss that Hj suffered knocked them out of the top spot but, to fall below a 12-7 Memorial just means your wrong.I realize this is just for fun. If you look at the entire picture or just the fact that HJ is a much better team than Memorial either way HJ comes out on top. -
Thats great that she is getting the recognision that she deserves. Now there are at least 2 other girls in this district alone. Hopefully they will also get your attention.
-
First I want to say what a player Ang Green is. She did a terrific job hitting 3's from NBA range and Chelsey Tyler also hit some big shots. As poorly as I beleive HJ played they made a run that was Highlight material if they could have pulled it out. I hope our defense shows up for the next game we play, not that it was horrible but, it was well below what our girls usually play. Now well see how we react to a loss that we can't say they were 4a or 5a. Hopfully it a good loss that modivates us to the next level.

Apology accepted hootiehoo14. I'm okay with someone with a different opinion. It was the running my mouth comment that was to far but, I'll live. As for the subject of officials you just said they have been horrible for the last couple of years which is what began this conversation. I know me complaining about it want fix it but, If we all felt the same and stood togeather with one voice and contacted the lead official there may could be change. I started a blog to get people togeather to voice our thoughts on how the media only shows boys sports. The problem is even we cant get togeather and try to get some changes. Doing nothing will never change anything. If we want better refs we got to let someone know. Even If I'm a ref that is only one, we need them to hold poeple who are getting paid to do a job to a higher standered.
-
Well revfaulk I don't have a surefire plan but, if paying more would do the trick I'll pay more to see the game. I know all the complaining don't help the today but eventually someone in the right position will hear and start some kind of oversight between themselves. I do know there are really good refs out there and they usually go to the big games on the boys side. I did go to a tourney this summer where the refs were rating each other and woking to get better. At that tourney I knew what should be going on at every game. They worked togeather to call great games. There are always going to be some bad apples who make every one look bad but, I really get along with most of them if I beleive they tried to do a good job I was okay. However I've had one tell the team we were playing how to beat my girls and then called horribly and he said things during the game that my girls could hear. That is not to be let go just because, that would be wrong. The only way to change and get better is acknowledge the problem and then work to fix it. Why is it wrong to want a fair game called for both teams, no matter where it is played.

Great job Kelly I wish I was there.Keep up the good work and continue winning.

Ashton Hall over the 6'8" Durley of HJ the last year they were in the same district. It was off a missed 3 and Ashton one handed the rebound over Sidney August and jammed it back in. He had to be 12' in the air it was sick.

Regarding Quote from hootiehoo14 Since you don't know me I just take your statements as ignorance. So you know I do officiate games and umpire baseball when I have time. I also coach a traveling basketball team that plays 40-50 games a summer, I will not official basketball games untill my kids are through playing and then I will be there. What do you contribute to help the youth or any group.Giving my oppions on this subject is to vent on something that needs to improve. If you watch any games and have any knowledge of the game you would not running your mouth so openly. As for me if you would like to talk face to face to explaine how I'm running my mouth and I guess you think I should shut-up I will be more than happy to hear what you have to say!!!

This was suppose to be a big district game but I haven't heard anything about Silbee lately.HJ wins by 14

Don't take this the wrong way but, your comments tells me you dont go to many games. Also I didn't say there were not any good refs but, it seems that the bad ones give the good ones a bad rep. I also know some of the good refs and their complaining also. The biggest problem is there are not enough people to do the job, so they have to take everyone. We need to pay better and disipline more to get a better product that we all want. As for your web sight there is a link to report problems with coaches ,fans, ect. but, not to report bad refs. Also we would need to know their names and other info on them so with your wise and good comments tell me how to get that information so I can step-up!

Its not crying , Its complaining about the poor officiating. If you think the officiating is good you haven't been to many games. I'm embarrassed when I see some of the officiating at HJ. I know we don't have a lot of controll because it seems the majority are not very good. I wish it was like in the past when Firefighters and Policemen did a lot of the officiating on their days off for extra money. Your always going to get bad calls but, some of them have attitudes and are deciding games. At HJ tournament in the championship game one official gave the TC coach a technical for no reason. He was on a power trip and he is one of the better officials. What he called a technical for would get every coach in the state out of games. We can teach our kids the rules but, if there not upheld during the game it makes you try to play by breaking the rules which is why the games are so physical. There shouldn't be home cookin for any one. In a better world we would all play by the same rules no matter where we are and let the best team win.

Happy new year to you also. I am hoping the new year brings better coverage of the area girls programs from KFDM anf others. The sports last night shoed all the rankings for the area boys and promo even for this web site but, to my surprize ( not ) there was not one mention of the area girls. Like usual they are discounted as none athletes by the very ones who are payed to reports the sports. Like I've said before you are not doing your job correctly when you ignore half of the area athletes. Don't reply saying you cover all sports because that would be a lie!! I am grateful for this forum to voice my oppinions on the girls and boys!!

Clearly not the hawks best game. It looked liked they had been on cheristmas break or something. The had 3 starters with 3 fouls 2 minutes into the 2nd Quarter. But like has become part of their success girls came off the bench to keep them in the game.Katelyn Bernsen again led her team with 20 points and she was one of the girls in foul trouble only playing 1 minute in the 2nd Quarter. I am glad the holidays are over because I've can't wait to see how far these girls can go. Keep up the good job!!

Who's the best player in the area?
Jdad replied to adminbaberuth's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
There's no way to say who the best player in the area and every-one agree. Who was the best NBA player? Michael Jordan--Magic Johnson--Wilt Chamberlin--Larry Bird -- and many more I could add. They were all great players and led their teams to championships. We are lucky to have quite a few of really talented players in our area. All the best on their teams and in their positions. Katelyn Bernsen from Hardin Jefferson KK Little from Orangefield Ang Green from Silsbee Also Player from Central has to be included (I forgot her name) There may be someone I missed or even a very good player whose coach doesn't play or someone in a system that doesn't show their talents. There or too many reasons why you can't say who's the best. I do beleive there are a lot of teams who wish they had the talent of the girls I did mention and, I'm glad that in this area of the state we can say we have some of the best players in the state. I enjoy watching all these girls and I know there are some younger girls who will take their places next year and will continue the great play in our area. -
I disagree with the comment that coachs have more control. It may be true but, if it is its because of bad officiating. The officials influence the fisical play by what they call and don't call. If all the kids foul out for fouling then that is the coachs fault. If a kids fouls call it, that is the rules. If a kid walks, call it officials are not their to decide what to call or not call. We have a rule book, that is to dictate the calls. One problem is that not all officials know the rules. If you play great defense and get run over and they don't call the charge, then why work that hard. If they rewarded good defense like they do good offense the game could get back to what it was intended for.

HJ won by 60 and they pulled off the press after the first quarter. They had girls with 25-24-15-10-9. The point guard had 14 assist with another 5 missed layups. All 10 players scored. Great game girls!!
-
I agree with your suggestion on college students who are studing to be coachs, And I agree with less tolerant of coachs and players- If everyone was consistant and not let things go one game and call them the next. Consistancy is the most important thing. As for the monitoring there should be a head ref or someone watching games evaluating during the season. Coachs aren't going to do a good job because they will evaluate on if they won are not. If you talk to them right after the game the evaluations would be different than later. There needs to be someone to send a film to when there are really bad calls made for one team or agaist both teams and with punishments. Some need there power trip taken away. Others who do a good job need to be held up above others thanking them for their fairness. I applaud those who do there best for a fair game for both teams.

There have been alot of great points that I have taught my players for years. Play the way the refs are calling. Adjust and continue to play as agressive as they let you. Part of the game is learning how to acheive your goals in a not so perfect world, BUT I have also had a ref tell the opposing team what to do to beat my team during a ballgame. My oppinion is 40% of the refs are great at their jobs and tring to get better,30% are young and let coachs and players infuence their calls which lets the whining get results, and 30% should be arrested for inpersonating an official!!! The biggest problem is there is no accoutability for them. I took a team to dallas this summer and the refs were grading each other and learning to do their job better. They knew someone was watching them and it was the best job I have ever seen. Just once I want to see a horrible ref taken out and sent home. I want them to know someone is watching them and they are there to make the players play by the rules that are written that coachs teach and not make up their own rules are ignore rules they don't agree with.

**SETXsports.com Player Of The Week Is
Jdad replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Your reply on why not a girls player of the week is disappointing. At least a sports guy should try to cover all the sports boys and girls. Your ( I guess ) was unprofessional. I realize not everyone likes to talk about girls sports but over half of all babies born are girls and if there were more equal coverage for girls it might start a positive reaction toward girl athletics. ( and that is all I got to say about that ) I guess -
**Nominate A Player (S) Of The Week**
Jdad replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I may be wrong but this subject is for the player of the week. The players that are mentioned are all three the best in our area. I Nominate Jessica Ellis from Kelly because I saw her hit 5 - 3,s in a row to keep her team in the game agaist H F friday night. All her shots were from NBA distance. She had 17 points in a losing game but the crowd was in awe. -
Will Lumberton Lady Raider's make the playoff's?
Jdad replied to beaumontballer44's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
At the YMBL Lumberton led Central for half the game. The way Ozen beat Dayton at Dayton lets me beleive Lumberton has a good chance at the playoffs.
