OldTimer I'll go down with you...my karma has taken a dive for my opinions as of late.........lol......I agree with all you have said......I haven't coached as long as you have but I've been a part of it since the age of..... oh um......birth.....at 4 i was a fixture on the sideline and never missed a Friday until i left for college.......I've seen on and off the field actions of hundreds of coaches......all left an impression on me both good and bad.......in my job I try my best to take the good from all the coaches I have experienced in my life.........they ALL have left an impression on the way I work............... Cussing does not hinder your coaching but it does hinder your respect.........and coaching can be done without it.......wos08 by your reply, are you saying if a coach does cuss it will make players better??

I don't think it's about talking to the coach as much as it is about the approach.....knowing when to talk, and what to ask or say.........If the player can make it be about the player and not the coach or anyone else, the player would get farther......IMO..... Things like.....Coach can I set up a time to talk with you.......Let it be on the Coaches time....... Coach, What do you think I need to work on to be better then.....Let him tell you what he's looking for........ What do you suggest I do to help me improve at.......this is one of the things he gets paid for coaching and teaching....... (let me make this clear..... if the player is willing to talk with the coach then he/she also needs to be willing to work extra at what it is that is said in the conversation!!) Athlete's need to learn to exhaust all options.......If their are coaches that are too egotistical about talking to a High School kid then they don't deserve to be in the profession of Teaching.............Coaches have to be able to communicate with every different types of athletes, learning styles, and know what makes those players tick.............I don't think you could be well respected as a coach if you could not communicate one on one with your athletes........again just MO!!

pa..........and I'm just throwin' this out there, like you did......would this be an opportunity to teach our young kids a bit of responsibility........What if this player, that sits on the fence, and needs a 'ship to continue school went and did the talking to the coach......and I mean in a very respectable way......... What if he asked.....in a one on one........Coach what do 'I' need to do to get more playing time?? The coach would not see this as an attack but as a young adult taking responsibility for what he needs to do...........just a thought I think kids are more afraid to approach a coach if they know there parent has had a talk with the coach on the subject......and the responses I've heard from these types of kids have been "don't listen to my dad"........and some worse......

I know all classes have problems but.......500.......what about West Brook and Memorials 2500 or so vs Humble and Kingwood's 4000+?? how 'bout them apples?? just picking one class as a test is not a bad idea if it works out im sure others would follow.....

West Brook wins but it does not matter......BISD needs to give up the reins and allow West Brook to play whom ever they want.........they should not be made to play these games like they are.......Maybe if West Book wins it enough they will cut the string........or open another school.....lol

Even if it doesnt happen again what's wrong with stepping up for your organization and simply saying those words...."It wont happen again!!" instead of saying it's the other coaches and fans responsibility......or even PD's responsibility.......just as in any organization it starts at the Head..they would at least gain respect for stepping up and fixing the problem.........If both are involved in the game maybe they should hire a third to take care of the things they are missing.......like communication

I see it like this If he were just the coach, then fine not all of the responsibility should be placed on him......he is responsible for his team and getting a W.......but it says he is part owner......where is, or are the other owners?? Also this puts responsibility in his hands.........Preparation, preparation, preparation......apparently Pierce is learning it takes a little more to just get two teams on the field and play a football game.....there are more concerns that need to be taken care of......Fans, what they can and can't have, better security (it said they had it but how where they instructed to handle the home side and visiting side).....from what I've read something was missing?? All of these things should have been discussed and handles long before any football games where to be played........this is an organization problem that is going to continue until they can show (whom ever let's them play) all i's and t's have been dotted and crossed. The LC-M thing was, more than likely, an excuse to add to the reputation of the team (organization as a whole).......Your reputation will always provide you.....hard to fix but could be done......Seems he needs more hands last, standing O for coach Hooks!!!

Although I agree you can't count on a summer game to compare what goes on on the 'season' hard court........I would have to disagree, and say, any of these kids would have upped the play on the three teams you said they could not play for........

funny how summer team was put with H-J but with West Brook, 'varsity' was emphasized.........was it a cup ball game, how high was the trash can.........lol

Bucholtz vs Bruce (for real) July 22 both AAA teams met each other.......in 5 innings of work Bucholtz struck Bruce out twice, swinging.......from the 6th on Bruce ended up with 2hits and 3 RBI's and the team victory........Bucholtz left the game losing 2-1 and took the loss....... on a side note the night before Bruce hit 2 HR's one to right, one to left..... I hope this is just one of many meetings between the two!!

I'm all for parents coming to practice and talking with the coach............... as long as it's ok for the Coach to bring his lawn chair to the parents job and critique what, or why they do things at their job..........lol.......wouldn't that be fun to see....... Before I say this, I understand if you don't win your not around long!!! What I've never understood, in High School Coaching, is no matter the past success.......... for a two to four year period a parent can effect a Coach and his family and what they have known for 15+ years.........and the Coaching family has to change in some form or fashion (move, relocate, change schools....etc).........but after the kids of this parent or parents are gone.....the parents still get to go to their same job day in and day out doing what ever it is they love, where they love to do it, with out anyone changing or effecting their lives............how fair is that??

Saw PNG get beat at Aldine MacArthur 75-0 in '87...........also had a fight in the game, happened on Aldines sideline after they hit our RB about five yards out of bounds on their sideline........benches cleared.....it was brutal!!!
