1. I thought the announced attendance was 17,526 ?  I remember playing the attendance quiz on the jumbo tron and thought the correct answer was C.
2. I have worked with many chapters and you cannot make an evaluation about which chapter is better than others from just working split crews. Not fair at all.
3. Starting this year all umpires that wanted to be eligible for playoffs either had to attend the State Convention or a Regional clinic for training. Chapters are contacted either by the UIL or by a school to schedule umpires for a series. We work split crews sometimes in series. 2 from each chapter. Sometimes it is a neutral crew that either the schools involved agree on a chapter to call, or the schools call the UIL and they call a chapter of their choice to send officials. When you say Umpire groups, we all are TASO umpires just different chapters. Not for sure if their are any UIL chapters in baseball, I have never called with any. I have made many friends throughout the State calling in split crews. Most Umpires that call in a playoff series will call at a level they are comfortable with.
4. Thanks for the rant. Many plates do have black on the edges which is part of the plate. I think some of you expect umpires to be something super human but we are just regular guys trying to do the best we can. As long as it is fun i will call when it is not I will hang it up and play more golf!
5. Yeah but it sure is tiring doing all that driving then calling a game. Tough to keep the focus.
6. I think I am going to pack a travel bag when i leave cause no telling where I may end up when all is done. I think west is the way to go rain chances are lower. I remember one year I did a series between Ozen and Montgomery and we played at Roundrock Westwood because of wet fields.
7. Rain should not be a problem on Thursday. Front suppose to come in early with just a small amount of rain if any at all. But hey it is Southeast Texas, weather can change in 15 minutes!!
8. Official ruling is where the ball is not the fielder. Many time you will see an umpire signal which side of the line the ball was on even if it is caught for an out.
9. All that I am aware of is that Teams can only play so many games and so many tournys. You would have to check the UIL site for specifics.
10. Bet they get more than a snow cone !!! :)
11. Sorry coach I missed that call because I am scared of heights!!!!
12. there are conflicting game times on the schedule. Sterling shows 4 pm and WB says 7pm  I know the umpire schedule has a 7 pm game. Someone should contact the scheduler if the time has changed. Just sayin
13. I can not make a call from a picture. If it was a steal, the runner does not have to slide but he can not create malicious contact. Malicious contact is an Umpire judgement call. I have had plays where a runner came in standing up at home, did not try to run over the catcher but when the tag was applied the ball popped out. First argument you hear is that the runner had to slide. There is no rule in NFHS rules that states a runner has to slide. I have ask the coach do you think the runner should be ejected for malicious contact on your catcher, and most of the time they say no he just should have made an effort to slide. If no malicious contact then we have nothing but a dropped ball on the tag out. Once again I can not make a call based on a picture you have to see the whole play with proper angles to make a call.
14. If it was a steal, runner does not have to slide but can not create malicious contact. Judgement call on that. The rule stated before about legal sliding was taken from a force play at second on a possible double play.
15. This isn't like football, a player can play in the JV game then turn around and play in the varsity. I know of no where to find a free copy of NHFS rules unless you get a previous years book from a umpire. Lately there has been very few changes.
16. I think I have heard enough bashing of the umps. Move on , play the next game and enjoy the game of baseball
17. I have never called a strike zone based on what bats are being used. If any part of the ball touches any part of the black of the plate it is a strike. Shrinking the zone will only make batters look for more walks not make them swing the bat more. If you are going to play College or be one of the few to play pro ball, get use to the ball on the edge consistently being called a strike.
18. All I know is I am getting flippin confused about the whole thang
19. They flip a coin to determine who gets to call the toss......... think about it...........  wait..........  yeah
20. Thanks CC  I helps me to have to look up answers or ask some of my contacts around the state that are super rules experts. I've been a player, coach, fan, and umpire and you see the game from a different way in all four of those aspects.
21. Tied ..... glad I am not there, for some reason i have been having nightmares about extra inning games going lets say 10 or 11 innings!
22. I think it was OF against Silsbee, I agree there should be one set of a standard policies regarding what a complete game is and how suspensions are handled.
23. The district rule for 20 4A is that it is picked up from where it stopped. Seems that is one of the things a district can have a specific rule on. UIL rules take over when it is a playoff game and from previous times i have been involved with stoppage of a playoff game, it is always resumed and never started over. What we tell our Umpires is you make the call as far as the weather and then if you can not continue the game that night, let the district committee decide how it is to be resumed, not our call.
24.

RaiderGirl, the exact thing happened to our player in the beginning of this game. I have always heard your hand is part of the bat. Therefore a foul ball....Great Game Dogs, you guys needed this big win :)
I once heard a ump say "did you buy your hands when you bought the bat, then they are not part of the bat". by that if he was swinging and the ball hits his hands foul ball, if you are trying to get away from a ball and it hits his hands then hit batter. Who knows.
Hands are not part of the bat. Hit non swinging then you get you base. Hit hands while swinging it is a dead ball strike not a foul ball
