1.
We had an issue at one of warrens games where the line-up card was incorrect for the home team displaying a wrong number for a hitter. The inconsistenscy was also on the umpires line-up. The umpire told the coach that there's nothing wrong with that and the official way to keep up with the lineups is by name. The coach then asked how he was supposed to know who each kids name was or if the umpire knew who each was. Just wondering why they told the coach there's no penalty. If so, what's keeping a team from just putting any name on the roster and letting someone else play? Not saying that's ethical, just trying to find out why there's no rule against it
Umpire was correct it is the name not the number which is official. Best way to fix is if there is a question get the right number to go with the name and proceed. So if the coach says hey there are 2 number 7's on my card, just find out who is number 7 and change the other to the correct number. Unless you catch people trading jersey's in the dugout , there is no need for any kind of penalty.
As far as deviation of order that is why the home plate umpire has the lineups as he is the official keeper of the line up but we as umpires are not score keepers unless as mentioned before we would be ask to mediate a situation between conflicting books.
Is money the only reason the UIL has not established an offical scorer for varsity baseball?
That is a good question. I think the most important reason is that in some sports it is not so much that a person keeps score as much as a time keeper. Since baseball is not timed, to pay someone just to keep score would not be cost effective. Aslo we certainly do not have the man power to supply a scorer. I would think the pay would be almost nothing also.

4. yes it is a live ball
5. No he does not. When a batter gets hit by a pitch in the act of swinging, it is called a dead ball strike and no one can advance.
6. Just a reminder to all those high school players who see this..... that is illegal in high school. No hurdling, diving, or jumping over a fielder. You are out for doing this. Some of you may ask why, it is a safety concern so no one gets spiked in the head. With all that said it was amazing how high the runner leaped over the catcher .
7. An unannounced sub is not illegal if it is detected. We just make the appropriate changes needed.  Federation Book Rule three first paragraph. Should there be no announcement of substitutions, a substitute has entered the game when the ball is alive and : a: a runner takes the place of a runner he replaced b: a pitcher takes his place on the pitchers plate c: a fielder reaches the position usually occupied by the fielder he has replaced or d: a batter takes his place in the batters box. Hope this helps
8.
I know if a picture makes an attempt to pick off a runner on first but fails to throw the ball it's a balk. Now why isn't it a balk if the same thing happens on second? ( Second is the only base being occupied )
If a picture fakes a throw i call it a Kodak Moment...  Now if a PITCHER fakes a throw to first it is a balk, your question why isn't it a balk to fake to another bag. That my friend is a question for Abner Doubleday.. it is just the rules as they are and I do not know why except to say that's the way it is.
9.
ball gets cranked deep into the outfield, hits a flag pole, and comes down in fair play, fair ball or home run??? hypothetical question, just wondering
Most of the time it is a homerun but that is why we ask the home coach to go over the ground rules for his park. If the flag pole or any other object is on the out side of the fence it is a homerun.
10. I am surprised they didn't sell the naming rights to some big company.
11. I don't watch too much minor league baseball  ;)
12. If you are asking can a pitcher in the stretch pick up his foot and hold it for a second then step... the answer is yes as long as he does not move forward toward the plate. If he throws to a base such as first for a left hander or third for a right hander, he must step toward the base and not let his body move toward the plate.
13. Don't tell me they found out Beau Hale has a year of eligibility left ?????  :D
14. In the judgment of the umpire if he feels that what was done was on purpose then he can eject no warnings needed. General speaking, if a pitcher is going to throw at a batter on purpose, it is a fast ball not a curve.
15. Thanks for the rule slo.. That's one of the things that comes under the official scorer's duties and something I never worry about.
16. Here it is for High School.. A coach gets a maximum of 3 defensive visits per 7 innings. If the purpose of going out to the mound is to change pitchers, then it is not counted as a trip. If a game goes into extra innings, then each coach gets one visit per inning and must change the pitcher if he goes out for a second time in an inning. There are no carryovers on trips. If you had one visit the first 7 innings, game goes into extra innings, the two he has not used are just lost. One other note, if you noticed I called these defensive trips. If a coach calls time and calls his catcher over to the dugout to tell him something he is charged a trip. One other situation where a coach is not charged a trip is if there is an injury. We always go out with the coach and make sure he only discusses the injury.
17. Just cause you are on the move to not entitle you to more bases. You must have acquired a base before the infraction or the time of the throw.
18. When the umpire is in the inside of the diamond and is hit, the ball is dead and each runner or batter runner is awarded one base.  I know sometimes the kids get a little mad at me because they want me to move to much from where i should be to help their vision but if I move to much sometimes you are putting yourself in an area where you are more likely to get hit.
19. Maybe I can work on my golf swing after today  LOL
20. Pitchers rubber is same as a base it is part of the ground. Now if a batted ball hits the pitchers rubber then goes foul before passing a base it is a foul ball.
21. Going to decide around 8 in the morning.
22. It's not just an Umpire situation, it is about all officiating. Business as usual
23. Rule 8-4-1-d of the Federation Rule Book: The batter runner is out when: d: after hitting or bunting a ball, he intentionally contacts the ball with the bat a second time in fair or foul territory. The ball is dead a no runners advance. As I read what you described, sounded like the batter bunted and in the course of normal play threw the bat down to run, the backspin brought the ball back to contact the bat. If the batter did nothing to suggest he was looking at the ball and threw his bat at the ball to make contact, then I would have nothing. Would be a judgment of umpire if it was intentional or not.
24.
We were told in Waco by both TASO and UIL officials that none of this will take effect until next fall. Everything is a go this spring for all sports. Is this a correct statement?
As far as anyone is TASO is concerned it is.
25. I would like to say that if the schools send us a schedule and ask for officials, then we will send them no matter what the UIL does. I dont want people thinking we are going to walk out. Only way we are not there is if the UIL tells the schools they can not use us then the problem will be between the UIL and the schools to find officials.
