NO it is not about 50 bucks. Frankly if you are not a member of one of the TASO chapters of any sport, it is hard to explain. My question to you is this, would you pay $150 for the right to umpire high school games? We presently pay $90. TASO gets $50 which is for all of their administrative fees, training aids and insurance just to name a few things. $40 goes to our local chapter for all of the supplies and administrative tools we need to schedule games in this area. Our area of the Beaumont chapter covers over 40 schools. I am not going to pay more money just to be registered with the UIL. UIL is not going to supply any training and their insurance they want to give us is not even close to the protection we get now.

UIL does not want to schedule every game, that would still be done by local chapters. UIL says that training will still be done by local chapters. UIL already schedules contest like state championship games and other playoff contest in all sports. They have nothing to offer us that we do not already have and there is no way that just because I pay 50 bucks to the UIL that could make me a better official because as the guys that know me know I am a hopeless case as far as being a better official LOL. As an independent contractor I should not have to pay the UIL to work games for them.

Can Livingston make the playoffs?
MrUmp1 replied to lionbaseball's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Who is the Lions coach this year ? -
I was at the Kirby game in San Marcos and I do not think it had anything to to do with the spread. PP executed very well and did not turn the ball over. PP made a couple of plays on 3rd down that if Kirby had stopped them it could have been different. Ford should be a very highly sought out recruit next year. PP was just the better team that day. I look for Kirby to make that trip again next year.

Maybe they should make this into one of those reality shows. So You Think You Can Run A School Athletic, Academic, or Music Competition. This also got me thinkin... would like the Nederland Slide Rule Team have on matching Nike Swooooosh shirts ????
-
Me and MrsUmp2 will make the drive over from Beaumont to show our support. Nothing like a state championship game in my opinion.

Would someone please explain to me the definition of non profit organization. That is what the UIL says it is.
Hey D, I know a 84y/o man that did the exact thing, the only differance it was in the stands sitting next to a woman, after all was said and did she was the best spectator in the park....you know whom I'm speaking of....
He has told me that story it is a classic

643 has the first point right. Catcher would have to be in the box at the time of the pitch or it is a balk. Lets just say that after the 2nd time, we would need a new catcher cause I would put him on the bus or I would stand behind the batter out of the way cause there is nuttin in the rule book that says where an umpire has to stand LOL. I may go sit in the dugout next to the coach and yell play !!!!

BREAKING NEWS: TASO files lawsuit against the UIL
MrUmp1 replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
TASO's lawsuit will destroy the UIL...I'll say it here right now....TASO has decided that since they can't get what they want, they'll just bring the UIL to it's knees and to heck with the kids of Texas.....THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THIS LAWSUIT IS ALLOWED TO GO ON....TASO hasn't looked at the unintended consequences of their actions....TASO is going to look very bad when this all pans out and that shyster lawyer they hired will laugh all the way to the bank.....
Just thought that I would ask since i am in the know of all of this.... how do you know TASO is paying this lawyer????? You under estimate the power of the parent or grandparent of a student. TASO does not want to get rid of the UIL, they just want the UIL to continue to recognize TASO as an approved school officiating source. As Forrest said, thats about all I have to say about that. -
you have got to be kidding me??? Right??
I'm not kidding if your asking me. I know coaches that ask for a certain chapter and UIL sent the game to another chapter to play politics. I spent part of last weekend in Austin at a meeting over the UIL takeover.
-
haha..that was a good one. the ball was not only there, it was maybe half way there. it wasnt like it was a bang bang play. some really bad officiating. Ive said before , Im kind of an innocent bystander here and i'll say it was the worst officiating Ive ever seen in over 40 years. I guess everyone has their off days though. I saw about 4 calls or lack there of..that came in key moments of this game that i think could have had direct effects on this outcome. You never know, because it may not have meant anything, howvever it does make you ask the question...WHERE DO THEY GET THESE GUYS? Is there some sort of prerequisits to being a high school official? Is there some sort of class they attend? Who is in charge of seeing that they know what they are doing? When it's playoffs do they get the best of the best? Cause these guys....and one in particular was 100% clueless.
If you think it is bad this year.. wait untill the UIL takes over officiating. In fact if the 2 schools went to the UIL for officials in this game, the UIL is already assigning people from chapters to try and influence certain chapters to promote registering with the UIL to officiate next year. UIL cares more about getting rid of TASO than quality of officials.

A different type of coach discussion (FUN)
MrUmp1 replied to Hotrodg's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If Football was photogenic, then there are some offensive coordinators that would know how to do a spread. -
He said it might give me a heart attack and he wouldn't want me to miss the baseball season because of that. Although I know there are a few coaches out there that would probably not care if they saw me or not LOL
-
I told Dan Friday night if we did play in Dayton to be the vistors otherwise I would have to show up on Thursday to start my trek up to the press box LOL

Should H-F bring back the Gold Helmets
MrUmp1 replied to horndawg's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
There road jersey's need to have dark numbers instead of those gold ones. Very hard to see from the press box. -
why not play corrigan at home if you play them in lufkin what is a 10 mile drive
I would bet a few bucks it is about turf and seating for the fans.
