This should be a judgment call. If the umpire thinks that he could safely have reached 3rd before the ball leaves the field of play then he is awarded 3rd. I think...... Maybe we should rename this thread ask mr silsbee88.... Once the pithcer steps off the back of the rubber, then he becomes a fielder not a pitcher. Runner gets 3rd as it is one from the mound and two from the field. Now if he makes a regular pick off throw and did not step off the back then he would only get 2nd.

Are you saying that the umpires should use their own money to drive back to the park and spend another couple of hours with no additional pay????? It's not about a few extra dollars for officials. If it were me I would not spend my time and gas for nothing. We as Umpires do scrimmages for free and no mileage.

although extremely strange, i do believe it is legal and he is safe May take a day or two but I will try to get a ruling on this. One thing about this you did not mention and that is, did the runner after touching 2nd if he rounded the bag, did he retouch 2nd before going twords first. It would be legal but only if after he went around 2nd he retouched 2nd before going to first.

That all depends if your district has a rule that that addresses the situation. UIL rule is , if it is a game of more than 5 innings, it is a complete game. If under 5 then it is restarted. Most district have a rule in place to address the situation. One other thing, the UIL rule also says that the game reverts back to the score of the last completed inning if over 5 innings.

Now that is one broadcast I would like to hear LOL I offered Gabe to be the third man on our umpiring crew last night in Bridge City be he turned me down. Something about news paper guys have to work both sides of the fence or something like that Guess being a media mogul is more his speed ;D ;D

For everybody who can't understand what d-hawk is talking about. If OF beats WOS and H-F loses to BC, then HFand OF they will flip a coin for 2nd or 3rd. More than likely that's what's going to happen. Just to clear that up. With the downtime next week, IF OF and HF are tied for a spot, I would think they would play to use it as a warmup game since there are no games scheduled next week. Could be an oppurtunity for the kids to get to play at Lamar to get use to playing on a bigger field also. Ya just never know.

The batter/runner must make it safely to first base for the run to count. Otherwise it is a force out at first. Correct

I was not in this game but the rule is, A runner going to first must run within the confines of the running box that is located the last 45 feet of the baseline going to first. Now, for there to be any kind of call, he must be running outside of that running lane AND ALTER THE PLAY. Just running outside is not a violation . This is exactly where you see this call made when a catcher or maybe a pitcher fielding a bunt has to throw to first and a runner is running inside the baseline. All it takes is on foot to be outside of this running lane not your entire body. The key to whole thing is must also alter the play by running out side of the running lane.

A coach can not physically help a runner. So he can not pick him up, or grab him to stop his momentum. Runner is out. But it is a delayed dead ball

I think you got the wrong idea here. There is nothing demeaning or insulting to me or my chapter about Joshua wanting to use some of their officials also. Geez both sides were totally professional , players, coaches and fans

Mr. Bourgeois was at the game but he has taken a year off from Umpiring due to problems with his back. He said he expects to be ready to be back in action next year.

Both of the coaches agreed on who to use after some discussion I was told. I feel very fortunate that I got to call the last two years. Tell Jason to stand his ground with Griff next year and make sure he gets two from your area. I know a few of the guys from the Fort Worth area and they are very good officials. My wife and I enjoy the trip and also getting to go to Mass this morning at the Campus church is a real treat. Being Palm Sunday was even a little more special. Super singing by the college kids. Have a great season and would love to see you in Roundrock second week of June.

Umps should have zero tolerance for ANY poor sportsmanship not just the pitch up and in. As far as I am concerned there is no place for it period and it starts with the parents teaching respect so players learn the proper way to conduct themselves. When parents and coaches alike disrespect the umps at a game they are teaching the wrong thing to the players.

very competitive game. Both teams played well. Was a pleasure to get to call this one behind the plate.

Sorry but I got to go to Woodville and do 2 games. Woodville vs San Augustine and East Chambers vs Warren. I did the EC game behind the plate and it was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo quiet and relaxing lol. Nuttin like a little break from the big guys lol
