I watched him play RF last game against Japan and he was terrible. He is so slow you have to time him with a calendar. I saw no evidence of the cannon arm you speak of. In fact the announcers commented several times about how weak his arm is. Maybe at one time he was decent defensively but not now. But like you say we are so infatuated with the HR that we overlook the rest of the game. That is exactly why Japan will continue to beat us. They play the game the way it should be played.

I don't think their players are physically superior. They are unselfish unlike American players who are mostly concerned about themselves. It's really not all their fault though our culture makes them that way. We glorify offensive stats over good team play. Why else would a player like Adam Dunn who can't play a lick of defense even be in the Major Leagues?

Barbers Hill Baseball (not that strong)

I saw the game last night. The BH team looked like they did not have any energy. Especially the catcher. I don't know if he was sick or what. But his effort behind the plate was lacking and it seemed to spread to the rest of the team. -

Westend1 you must follow Westbrook. You have seen LCM and PNG. Who has the better team in your opinion? -
Maybe indians89's son should of played Babe Ruth and maybe he could get his name in the paper too!! ;D

The population of Orange may be increasing but it is people without children. Today's families are smaller than they were in the past. Four or Five children per family was common at one time. Now there are a lot of just one or two children families.

I agree. This has got to be one of the strongest squads they have put together in a long time. -
Number of black youths playing baseball declining
Terrier replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think it has more to do with the game being slow. Kids today, not just black kids, live in a world where everything happens fast. It is hard for them to slow down and adjust to the slow speed of a baseball game. -

I am not a coach basher by any means. But I do think some coaches open the door for criticism. One of my pet peeves is a double standard when it comes to behavior. When a coach allows some players to do anything and punishes another for the same thing. Or allows a player to make mistake after mistake on the field but benches another after one mistake. -

Coaches expect criticism. You are never going to make everyone happy. Somebody has to sit the bench. Parents are way more involved in their kids live then they used to be. The reason all the criticism has risen to a new level is the money factor. The parents are investing large sums of money in private lessons , equipment and traveling from the time these kids are 7 or 8 years old. So when the High School coach doesn't play their kid they go nuts. -

Being a good coach is not just about teaching the game. It is also knowing how to "manage" your players. Where to put players so they can be successful, when to pull your pitcher, when to hit and run. Some coaches are better at it then others. But a coach still has to have talent to win. PNG, LCM, Bridge City and Nederland consistently provide their schools with baseball talent. The main problem I see is that baseball is becoming a game for the wealthy that can afford the private lessons and pay for their sons to travel the country playing baseball. A regular kid that comes up through the local league hardly stands a chance anymore. -
How does your team look in 2009???
Terrier replied to utguy09's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
PNG is only losing 3 starters. Harrington's pitching will be missed. Second base and catcher are the only two positions that have to be replaced. They should be the favorite to win the district again next year. -
I don't know what he may or may not have done for this to happen. But I know from reading this board on regular basis that a lot of negative comments have been directed toward him from the BC fans/parents. It seems like the vultures have been circling for a while waiting for their chance. Politics play a role at every school. If you think LCM is immune just look at the starters. Are there any that didn't go to Sam Moore?

How do they decide who gets to be on the team? I understand the players don't pay anything to play. But somebody is paying because the travel and tournaments cost plenty. I am just curious because every time I see some of the players names mentioned. Nobody from the Mid County schools is on the list.

It is 6 or 6:30 start time. I heard that neither Harrington or Todd will throw for PNG.

Who did we leave off that needs some recognition ?

Jude Vidirne 2B Ned and Jacob Lynch RF PNG. Both these guys have been quietly playing key roles on their respective teams. ;D -

Dallas Brown is our #1 and if all we could score off of Harrington was one run, I am glad we have him ready for Ozen. If that's the case then why didn't they throw him in the biggest game of the season so far. That game last night was for sole possession of first place. I found it interesting that Barry and Cloeren were not in the line up last night. -

PNG really exposed the Bears lack of a true #1 pitcher on their staff. Harrington pitched so good last night I really don't think it mattered who the Indians played they would have won. -

Round two with Indians Friday at the Reservation. Do or die for the Dogs. It is always an exciting game when these two get together. ;D -

What a crazy district. Vidor could go from all alone in 1st to 4th in a week if they lose to Nederland.
