outstanding job, Kelly. Good luck Can Shark give us a list of teams playing at the state tournament or a link? Thanks -
Kelly.........................0 1 0 0 1 Bishop Lynch..............0 1 0 1 2 Kelly goal: Yasmine Afshar Kelly saves: Stephanie O'Neal(14) Kelly record: 17-7-2 Earlier this week, RIP2506 called the PNG game a war. This match easily surpassed the physicality of that game. The description I would use for both teams was courageous. Many of the girls played 100 minutes of soccer. DBL eventually prevailed with a goal in the second overtime that barely eeked over the goal line. Make no mistake, this game was not pretty. After going up a goal early in the second half, DBL went a man down after a red card ejection. Afshar scored a on a direct kick after the DBL goalie picked up the ball outside the box under pressure from Caitlyn Quinn. Despite the advantage, Kelly could not mount much offense. Two of Kelly's leaders Madeline Horning and Zuri Prince were cramping throughout the second period and the OT's. Their limitations along with the injury to Lauren Zeto in the PNG game that kept her out tonight and DBL's defense, contributed to Kelly's difficulty in organizing its passing. It was a tough, rough game with over 20 fouls called between the teams and a yellow card issued to DBL after the half. DBL had many more quality shots on goal. Had it not been for the outstanding play of Freshman keeper Stephanie O'Neal, the game could have ended earlier. O'Neal had 14 saves and made all the correct decisions tonight. She was easily the MVP of the game for Kelly. Time for this young team to look back briefly and then regroup for next year. Congratulations on a very good season and thanks for the memories.

Kelly......................1 2 3 Houston Christian.....0 0 0 Kelly goals: Zuri Prince(2) Caitlin Quinn Kelly assists: Quinn, Mary Ellen Zummo Kelly saves: Stepahine O'Neal(4) Kelly record: 16-6-2 Lady Dawgs take second in the district and earn a first round home playoff game with a convincing win. This victory avenged a 2-1 loss to HC earlier this month. The girls were obviously ready to play on a brisk, windy night. Prince broke a tie game at 38 minutes with a outside run past a defender and powerful shot to the top of the net. She scored again on an assist from Quinn at 50 minutes with a step aside move and another strong shot from just outside the left corner of the box. Zummo crossed which deflected off the goalie and Quinn punched it in at 58 minutes and the game was secured. Sophomore newcomer Alyssa Henke was solid on defense all night marking HC's best player. Congratulations Kelly

No such action can be condoned. It is clearly wrong and indefensible. Stepping up and taking responsibility with a sincere apology is a start. These boys will learn that there are consquences to their actions and bad decisons whether spur of the moment or on the field or off the bench. On the other hand, if the LCM kid is not injured(and I hope he is not), I would urge that crimminal charges not be filed. Every kid makes mistakes and deserves a second chance. Let's resist the run to the courthouse mentality. I read recently that Pat Tillman, generally considered a modern hero, spent time in a juvenile facility for a high school fight. Glad he was given a second chance.

Last comment(probably). Agree that appreciation is related to knowledge of a game. I do need to point out that no hitters in baseball are celebrated and considered classics even if it is 1-0. I'm sure if the world governing bodies of soccer wanted to increase scoring they could reduce field size, as baseball has done, widen the goals sort of like lowering the pitching mound, or make longer shots a 2 pt goal like a 3 pointer in basketball. Apparently, their is a large world out there which appreciates a golden goal or the tension of a shootout. Finally, although I am not a hockey fan, like many sports fans i enjoyed the USA semifinal over Russia at Lake Placid. Not a very high scoring affair but generally considered one of the country's finest sports moments. All depends on your perspective. -

Wait a minute, try watching a basketball game, one of the Big 3, and not seeing a player flop trying to draw an offensive foul; or in football, a wide receiver who misses a clsoely contested pass jump up and act as if he was interfered. Watch Peyton or Brady, complain about a defensive lineman who may have gotten into their legs, something perfectly legal just three years ago. Like soccer, acting is much more prevelant at the pro level where they are all looking for an edge and trying to get a referee's call which can make a difference. IMHO WE1 Yes, a predominately white and hispanic sport on this side of the world but I don't see many of either race playing for teams from the African continent teams inclduing Ghana and the Ivory Coast who will compete for the world cup. I don't watch hockey either because I don't know the sport. I have learned to appreciate soccer by watching my kids play. Each generation will have more who played the game and it will incraese in popularity. Can't say it will ever be a Big 4 in the USA but it is unchallenged that the interest is growing and will continue to. -
I have been in the basement including an out of town trip. I did not see any of these games but will report for consistency. At the Richardson Berkner Ice Bowl tournament in North Dallas, the girls went 1-2 including a 2-0 loss to the host team, a 5A team I believe. Kelly..................... 7 IWA...................... 0 Kelly goals: Caitlin Quinn(2) Yasmine Afshar(2) Zuri Prince, Teilor Long, Lauren Zeto Kelly record: 14-6-1

Kelly.........................1 0 1 Houston Christian........1 1 2 Kelly goal: Jenny Hernandez Kelly assist: Zuri Prince Kelly record: 12-4-1 I did not see the game but am told that Kelly played poorly. That should not take anything away from HC who was better tonight and may have the better team. We will find out in the rematch in Beaumont later this month. -
Kelly Winter Classic girls tournament results(2nd Day)
watash replied to watash's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yes, Kelly is currently blessed with a number of girls who have had the parent support and opportunity to develop in youth soccer. Nevertheless, 2 years ago they had 21 girls in the entire school try out for the team. West Brook, for instance, typically has 40 to 60 girls tryout and draws from the same youth talent pool. Kelly's enrollment would make them a 2A UIL school. It is not an excuse just a fact that they are probably the best team in Souteast Texas with no seniors on the squad. I will stick with my statement that they can beat many 4A and 5A squads across the state. Of course, when they play schools with 4 to 10 times the enrollment from the larger cities, with more of the select type players you describe in their programs, they will expectedly be at a talent disadvantage. Again, not an excuse just a fact. No one is claiming they would be a top tier 4A or 5A school. Friendswood is one of those. A close loss to a moderately successful 4A FWAH demonstrates this point. The same is true for any 2A size school regardless of the sport. Kelly's coach is great. She is a knowledgable, steady Christian influence on the girls but I do agree that talent matters more than coaching in any sport. Bet I could win a bunch of games coaching the Yates boys basketball team. -

excellent point about ignoring what you don't want to read sort of like a TV commercial -
Thanks for that post and link Newbie. Always better to deal in facts than supposition. It will be interesting to see if FF comes in and mans up to his obviously erroneous position. To be charitable, maybe he hasn't seen Ursuline play in a few years. I don't think it is a leap in logic to assume that if Ursuline is beating the No. 1 5A team in the state and the defending state champ without one of their top seniors( a national team player) then they could handle Friendswood.

I realize that content is difficult to censor/control but maybe we could get some administrative help to remove some of the obviously silly, multi page posts that are clearly not serious. -
Kelly Winter Classic girls tournament results(2nd Day)
watash replied to watash's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
FF FWAH is a 4A school like yours so, in that respect, we were proud of the way our squad with no seniors competed against a much larger program. Kelly had several opportunities which it did not convert. FWAH had some talented players and was the better team yesterday even if it took two overtimes. I think it is fair to say the teams were evernly matched. My guess is that on the bus ride home FWAH was thinking they got all they wanted in 96 minutes of soccer. Not quite sure how good FWAH is at the 4A level. They play Coppell on Feb. 2nd which will give some comparison measure. I don't know very many true competitiors who are ever satisfied with a loss. -

There is a typo in the first post West Brook beat Silsbee 2-0 rather than a 2-2 tie as originally posted. My apologies to WB. I must have been cold. -
Kelly Winter Classic Tournament Schedule

For this weekend, the Kelly tournament has the warmest place north of Interstate 10 to play soccer. As the skies clear, the weather warms and the teams advance, the conditions and soccer will improve. Come out and watch a match if you haven't already. -
