I was told Conroe is one of the best teams in the state. Kelly, missing Matt Kirby, came out with a lot of intensity and maintained it throughout the game. They gave this very good 5A team all they wanted with a PK being the only separation. I was glad I was able to witness this performance. Bulldogs should be proud of their effort.

Kelly wins in overtime. Clinches outright second place in district. Kelly.............3 0 1 -4 Duschene......3 0 0 -3 Kelly goals: Claire Dykeman(3) Yasmine Afshar Kelly assists: Erin Zeto, Madeline Horning, Afshar Kelly Dash Shots 19 4 Corners 3 3 Kelly season record: 19-5-1 A great match. Dash scores twice in the first 12 minutes. Kelly comes back with 3 goals in the next 15, then Dash scores again just before half. Kelly dominates a scoreless second half with 11 shots to 0 and finally breaks through with a goal at two minutes in the first overtime. On to the playoffs. Congratulations to Coach Brittney and the Lady Dawgs. Take the rest of the weekend off.

Kelly Girls results from Bastrop tournament
watash replied to watash's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
wow, I never expected such an exchange over this post. However, Friendswood Fan, I am disturbed that any of my post game comments have been misconstrued into "excuse making". Any competitor worth their salt(and I am the father of one) abhors excuse making. Five times this year, the other team has been better than our girls on that day. Those who have beaten us did so on the same size field, under the same conditions with the same referees. Frankly, I don't need to make excuses for our team because 17 times this year including two tournaments it has gone Kelly's way. You speculate that the Kelly team does not play well on a small field which may be true. Nor should they be expected to do so after playing and practicing for 3 months on a normal field. Certainly, the football team, of which you are critical, and the volleyball team you reference didn't reach the near end of their season and have to play on a different size field or court. When the Lady Mustangs travel to the state tournament, I pretty sure it is to play on regulation size fields. I would further bet that Friendswood has a regulation size field and your coach, if given the choice, would choose playing on a regular field over an irregular field every time. You are obviously passionate about your soccer and undoubtedly know more about the game than I do. I don't see how anyone who truly enjoys the game would want to watch "bunch ball". When it happens, I don't think post game commentary about the fact should be wrongly labeled. I will stick with my observation that a smaller field makes for an uglier, less skilled game. Temple and Conroe Oak Ridge were obviously challenged by the same field necessary field adjustments and beat and tied Kelly anyway. On the other hand, Duschene regularly practices and plays on a field which is both shorter and more narrow. Therefore, when they play at home, I think it is both fair and logical to comment that they have some advantage over a team seeing their field for the first time. I have already spent more time responding than this deserves but being accused on making excuses struck a nerve. Should we expect your Mustangs back in the state tournament this year? -
Kelly..............3 3 -6 Lampasas.......0 0 -0 Kelly goals: Gabby Beaudry(3) Claire Dykeman(2) Madeline Horning Kelly assists: Zuri Prince(2) Yasmine Afshar, Dykeman Kelly season record: 17-5-1 Kelly did not advance to the championship bracket and the third place games were cancelled on Saturday because the fields were absolutely horrendous from two days of full play in the rain. A neutral observer, which I am not, might say Kelly was pencil whipped as several weaker teams with fewer points did advance. However, when you lose once and tie out of three games, no one to blame but yourself! PA Memorial on Tuesday for Senior night to conclude the regular season. Then, a playoff game against Duschene on Friday in Houston for outright second place in the district

Kelly Girls results from Bastrop tournament

Bullet 13, I did not arrive in Bastrop until Friday and did not see the Temple game so tough to evaluate. My impression was that no one on the team was overly impressed with Temple as much as Kelly felt they played badly. Once again, played every game of this tournament on an undersized field. While it is true that it is same size for both teams, a wet, small field is a great equalizer for slower teams which do not possess or pass as well. No one would suggest a football game being played on a smaller field yet that is exactly what we have encountered in four games this year. These four games on smaller fields account for two of Kelly's five losses and the tie. Coincidence? -
Thursday"s game Kelly............0 1 -1 Temple.........2 2 -4 Goal: Zuri Prince Assist: Claire Dykeman First Game Friday Kelly.............................2 0 -2 Conroe Oak Ridge............2 0 -2 Goal: Madeline Horning Assist: Yasmine Afshar Tough play on a sloppy, small field in thirty something degree rain. Lampasas tonight at 7:30. Two starters return to Beaumont tonight after the game for SAT test so tomorrow doesn't get easier.

Semifinal Game Kelly.....................2 1 -3 Dulles Foster..........0 2 -2 Kelly goals: Claire Dykeman(3) Kelly assists: Yasmine Afshar, Gabby Beaudry, Zuri Prince Championship Game Kelly...........................3 1 -4 Lamar Consolidated.......0 0 -0 Kelly goals: Zuri Prince(3) Natalie Polizopolis Kelly assists: Claire Dykeman, Yasmine Afshar, Prince A great day for the girls on another wet, cold field. A huge step for this young program outscoring their opponents 16-3 in five games. Coach Burdick regroups them after a disappointing Duschene loss. A big district game with St. Pius on Tuesday and the Bastrop tournament next weekend. Congratulations Lady Dawgs, well played.

Kelly Girls Soccer results from PNG tournament
watash replied to watash's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I was just reminded that I need to add that the format was not full regulation games. Each of the seeding matches consisted of 20 minute halves rather than 40 minute halves. Therefore, the results today may be considered exhibition or scrimmages rather than official games. Not sure, but if so, I will correct the team season record in future posts. The games tomorrow will be regular length games. -
Kelly.........................1 3 -4 Rosenberg Terry.........0 0 -0 Goals:Zuri Prince(2) Gabby Beaudry Assists: Claire Dykeman, Erin Zeto, Prince Kelly................1 1 -2 Galveston Ball....0 0 -0 Goals:Claire Dykeman, Zuri Prince Kelly...............0 3 -3 PNG................0 1 -1 Goals:Gabby Beaudry(2) Teilor Long Assists: Claire Dykeman(2) Yasmine Afshar Season record: 13-4 There were obviously many other teams playing in the tournament but I only keep stats on Kelly. Nice play in the seeding games. Good luck tomorrow in the championship bracket Lady Dawgs.

I don't want to do any disservice to the effort of the Duchesne team by calling the result an upset. They came out on their home field and played with a lot of intensity. I can't comment on how they performed at the Brenham tournament. Kelly would look forward to a rematch. As I have stated before, Kelly would probably be competitive with any 2A or 3A team in the state as well as a number of schools from the larger classifications. On the other hand, it is difficult for any school with an enrollment of 225 girls to have the team depth 1-11 or 14 to compete with the stronger, much larger schools. For instance, Friendswood probably has 3 to 4 times as many potential girls from which to select a team. That is the reason there are classifications among high school sports leagues. St. Agnes with 800+ girls enrolled, who has beaten Kelly twice this year, would be a much better example of how a private school would compete against a larger 4A program. Kelly is playing in two public tournaments over the next two weekends, at PNG and Bastrop, and the results should provide better insight into the team's realtive competitiveness than one game on an irregular field.

There should be a goal rule just like there is a run rule in high school baseball. Since there isn't one, coaches should have the class to self impose one. Double digit victories do not serve any purpose. The prevailing team is more likely to develop lazy, sloppy habits than to accomplish anything positive. Sharkfutbol is correct. The losing team is just as likely to become angrier and rougher. Its not like a red card is going to change the season outcome for one of these teams. Good soccer players hate this kind of boring, uncompetitive game. If you want to slow down the game, take your worst offensive player, even if it a goalie, put them forward and impose a rule that they are the only one who can shoot. I don't think winning with class in a mismatch makes anybody touchy, feely.

Kelly.............0 1 -1 Duchesne......1 1 -2 Kelly goal: Claire Dykeman Kelly season record: 10-4 Tough match in the cold rain. Better team tonight won on an undersized, postage stamp size field.

SCRIMMAGE RESULTS West Brook......2 3 -5 Kelly...............2 0 -2 It was a scrimmage and a parent was used as a referree so I did not keep individual stats. Incidentially, the parent deserves props for stepping up and doing a good job. Generally, it was well-played, classy soccer among a bunch of girls who are friends. WB too deep and strong on Saturday and dominated the second half. Kelly out shot them in the first half with a strong wind at their backs but WB goalie did a great job with several saves. Congratulations Lady Bruins and good luck with the season.
-
The format for Saturday will be a scrimmage rather than a game. First encounter for WB and they probably want to look at different girls in different positions. Kelly has 12 games under its belt so formt makes sense. Time is 11:00 am at WB. Should be a beautiful day to watch good soccer. Experienced WB team vs Kelly with 6 freshman and sophomore playing.

Okay, I went to the site and looked. How are both the boys and girsl teams from Witchita Falls rated #1 in 4A? Are they close enough to any metropolitan area to have top-notch club or feeder programs?

Where do you review the TASCO regional rankings for various classes? thanks

Kelly Girls win St. Louis tournament(details)

Kelly is fortunate to have a coach with her experience and ability. Her impressive turnaround of the program speaks for itself. More importantly, she is a solid, quality person who sets a great example for the players.
