I surely hope that your SETX teams win all of your games vs. our district otherwise I have a feeling that the amount of SOME posters will be awfully quiet, if not gone altogether. I grow weary of this board the more I post over here because of immature posters who choose to spend their time trying to be witty and have the other weak minded followers join in their ignorance. I guess when SOME haven't had the pleasure of experiencing State Title appearances and actually being State Champions then they need to fill the void in some manner and if that's working for you then keep it up, just not at my expense.

Just didn't see any sense in overworking the knee necessarily. Check the box scores it's easy to see. Brenham was his first real game back from surgery, and his carry count was still limited to 28 touches. Huntsville got a half of him in the first round playoff, but he was pretty much turned loose on Crosby, carrying the ball 38 times for 325 yards and six touchdowns. The final three games of the season he carried the ball only 23 times for 332 yards, 14.43 yd/carry avg. and 6 TD's. He did that much in the Crosby game alone. I fully expect Dawson to get a good dose of him, and the minute the start cheating up too much in the box, Bolfing will burn them long to Gasaway and Peppe. People make a big deal about the size of Dawson. I'll tell you Crosby had the biggest O-line I've seen all year. #76 Cody Stephens @ RT is 6'9" 270#, #56 Clayton Calicutt at LT was 6'5" 255#, #77 Justin Walker @ LG was 6'4" 245#, #66 RG Kyle Lewis 6'1" 270#, and #60 Preston Harvey @ C 5'11" 220#, is a pretty good sized line if you ask me. The Bear D-Line pretty much ate their lunch. Merka was sacked 8 times and hurries were in double digits. They also had one forced fumble that resulted in a turnover. Not to mention holding Dominic Merka QB 6' 5" 220#to 71 yards on 18 carries far below his game avg.
No disrepect intended but you cant compare Dawson and Cougars Lite...they are 2 totally different teams on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to football. Also, those kids from Dawson have wheels to go along with their size and their DB's wont have a problem with deep threat balls. Now if you can get that hoss rolling then it will open up the passing game where you'll find more success on short, quick passes more so than the long ball. Dawson likes to smother running backs with #'s if they're a legitimate threat and try to stretch the play out vertically instead of horizontally for little to no gain. If you can run it down their throats you'll find better success than toss plays?
None taken. But if you look at the same films we are the Dawson O-Line is pretty sluggish out of the three point stance. #72 you can clock with a sundial, and their much heralded #77  isn't much faster. They get away with a ton of holding and illegal chop blocks. They cut block more than any team the Bears have faced, that's for sure. Pay close attention how that is dealt with. The Dawson Special teams will have to be dealt with very carefully. They are dangerous a heck in that category. If you have studied Montgomery, you'll notice they make their living between the hash marks, tends to neutralize that speed and turns it against them. And from the films I saw Manvel ran the bubble screen all over Dawson, and Friendswood passed all over them. So maybe they are a little more vulnerable than one might think. If Manvel would have fumbled the ball so many times the score would have been a lot worse. Fumbling is something the Bears don't do much of, and force a lot of turnovers, something Dawson is pretty prone to do. Not seeing the massive size everyone is talking about on the Eagle defense. They look to be fast in the open field, but they seem also to be easily confused by complex blocking schemes. You can see on their films a lot of running into each other and missed assignments when a good counter is presented or crossing routes. The corners play soft and off the ball, reason the bubble screen eats them up 10 and 15 yards a chunk. Montgomery runs a lot of zone read and several variations of the counter trey.
Fair enough, very true and valid point on negating the speed factor as that is the reason Stephenville owns us in Championship games. Not trying to put Stephenville down but for the most part we had better overall speed but they negated it by rolling out their QB and nickel and diming us up and down the field with their short crossing routes. I haven't seen any of Montgomery but they sound like a tough team that will give Dawson a run for their money or even more?

PNG >>=======HONOR===PRIDE===TRADITION===> [img][Hidden Content]]
I'm always baffled when I see posts that seem to use this as a defense as to why you may have lost? Do you not honestly believe Manvel or pretty much any other team that's in the playoffs still hasn't vastly improved as well? The officiating excuse is just that...a poor excuse why one's team lost a game. We all have to take our lumps but dont use that as a reason you lost...it makes you look bad as well as a poor sport!
I don't have an an answer on my pick yet...once I get a definitive status update on T.Wright I'll post it. And no, by no means am I scared...lol...if we win we win, if we lose we lose. I've watched LM on video and it looks like they have several running backs that can fill in for T. Wright with not to much of a drop off- looks like you use multiple backs in your offensive scheme .

Uhmmm, I wouldn't fully agree with that but Alridge (7.7 yds avg.) is a tough little scamper back with wheels who could have developed much more had he been given the reps. needed to do so. Most of the other backs can play the position but they are larger backs who come in primarily for blocking reasons. T. Wright is the complete package with better than average speed, good vision, ability to cut on a dime and size to run over and through tackles if need be. We do have others that don't typically play that position like Gasway who was a State finalist in the 100m last year could play a role if need be. Only problem there is the experience factor so who really knows?

I've seen some silly posts (homer-like) on this thread that have absolutely no merit in the outcome of this game but to be fair I've seen others that are valid claims, just not as much as the before mentioned. You guys have one common opponent and while I'm not sold on making comparisons like that because match-ups vary so much it's typically not a smart thing to go by but with the obvious scoring out comes it's just a little too obvious to overlook completely. Manvel completely dismantled TC 46-15 while PNG fell to TC 22-20. I took note where someone said TC played poorly in the second half of the season but with the exception of Ball High anyone could beat anyone in our district on any given night so that observation holds little water. I'm not sure if it was in this thread or the Dayton/LM thread but to the person who ridiculed Santa Fe you have no idea about the quality of SF's play this year. They managed to put a chink in Fw's armor (only loss) and they also totally destroyed Barbers Hill (35-7) who was a playoff team from the triangle while Santa Fe missed out on the playoffs due to a head to head loss to LM. In no way do I consider myself a high school football God of any sort but you guys better contain both of those QB's they rotate because they both can run and pass the ball very well. I know one is a D-1 prospect and I think the other is being looked at also by college recruiters. If you have a serious stud at the RB position you may find success running the ball as T.Wright had a track meet on them when we played each other which opened up the passing game. I'm not sure what their turnover ratio is overall but they turned it over to us 3 times and 3 times to Terry so that might be something you guys may capitalize on? To be quite honest, when all is said and done I truly believe Manvel is the team that will come out of this region but like they say that's why they play the games!
Only 1 small correction...Barbers Hill is NOT from the Triangle.  ;D Thanks for the assessment 88
Thanks for the Triangle info. but they're close enough because they don't come out of our area in the playoff brackets.  :)
Yea because there can't possibly be any good coaching at Manvel who's 10-2 and went 4-2 in a district who has all 4 teams still playing in the play-offs?
