This year, the campus jumped more than 200 spots to be listed at number 503 - its highest ranking yet. According to the magazine (The Top of the Class, newsweek.com, 2007), public schools are ranked by the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2006 divided by the number of graduating seniors. All of the schools on the list have an index of at least 1.000; they are in the top 5 percent of public schools measured this way. Lake Travis High School Principal Charlie Little credits his team for helping build the school's Advanced Placement (AP) program. "The Pre AP and AP teachers and school counselors have worked hard over the past several years to grow the LTHS AP program," Little said. "It's exciting to be on Newsweek's list, and I'm proud of our students for pursuing the academically rigorous courses that the AP testing program offers. Clearly, these students are making the most of their high school experience and they will be better prepared for success in college." In 2006, LTHS was ranked 752 on Newsweek's list. In 2005 the school was ranked number 577, while in 2003 it was listed at 659. For more information on LTHS AP programs, contact the school's counseling office at (512) 533-6114."
Without a doubt, Jonathon is the greatest back to touch the ball in Texas High School history. He's unmatched, no one is even in his class. But what I find the most impressive about him is his humbleness. I have listen to many many interviews with him and he NEVER mentions the word "I" or "Me". It's a;ways "We" or "Us". He leads with a humble spirit and great God given ability. Eight touchdowns and 325 yards in a State Championship Game, against one of the fastest defenses in the state. Aledo is a great team and Gray is a big part of it. Just a pleasure to watch.
I agree. He is very well spoken and a humble young man, who continuously mentions that his father plays a major role in his life. Wow and only a Jr. in highschool.

Congrats Aledo! Wanted to see the trophy come back to Houston but don't think anyone could have stopped Gray lastnight. Compliments to Aledo's big boys up front paving the way for Gray, all he needed was a lil'crease and he was gone, mad skills. Turnovers hurt the Coogs, can't have it in the finals but they did represent well.

LaMarque vs. Aledo State Title Predictions?

How is LM's RB doing? I heard he was banged up a little.
Here's where I don't know enough about Aledo...LM has the talent on defense to stop Gray straight up without any gimmicks, not saying they will but....if they do does Aledo have enough other options on offense to still win. Aledo could completely shut down Tim Wright and still give up 50.
Interesting claim -- that LM will put up 50 on Aledo "even if Wright is shut down." Especially interesting since I believe the most points LM scored in a game this year was 48. BTW, Aledo and LM have comparable rushing and passing yards per game -- Aledo averages about 30 more rushing yards per game and 30 more total yards per game. Looking forward to seeing Wright haul the rock at Jerry World. Hope both teams play well and we have an injury free game. Safe travel to all.
Nice first post....try reading a little better as well. The point was LM has way more weapons than just Tim Wright. From what I've seen and heard...Aledo doesn't have the same type weapons outside of Gray. LM has two players from their front 7 on the all state team....neither of whom I would consider their best defensive player.
Would have to say that La Marque has more athletes and speed but whoever plays mistake free will win this one. If Aledo can sustain some long drives and keep La Marque's offense off of the field then Aledo will win. La Marque will make some bonehead mistakes as they have all post-season but Aledo has to make them pay for their mistakes. Gray and Wright will get theirs but Aledo has to make La Marque's QB pay on the long passes. If Aledo can't contain the QB and long passes then it will be a long day for Aledo. Going to be a good one. -
I would like to see scrimmages against WOS, WB, or PNG. Follow that w/a couple of games w/La Marque, FW, or Dawson.
You must have me mixed up with someone else about the playing at cowboy stadium thing. I knew when we played an athletic team that could man up on our receivers it would be tough for us to score. They stacked the line and dared ah to beat them it was smart on their part. He very rarely throws the ball downfield 90 percent of his passes are screens and passes behind the line of scrimmage and everybody in the stadium knew he couldnt beat you running the ball. Like i said in an earlier post look at lamarques qb and look at ours and if you dont see a huge talent difference then ohwell.
Haha, now you're talking about the play calling. He kept several of the drives alive by scrambling, but he can't run the ball? Again you're comparing apples and oranges and in the process talking bad on a 18 year old kid that works his butt off for his team. Guess I'm not smart enough to grasp your concepts here. Sorry.
Our defense kept us in that game we scored 3 points so what spectacular plays are you talking about.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Herrera scrambled for a few first downs WHEN PRESSURED just as the La Marque QB did. NO, he may not have matched the La Marque QB scramble for scramble but you're comparing apples and oranges here. Had a few of the La Marque faithful after the game say that Dayton has a fiesty lil'QB that can make some plays. Guess what, that's exactly what he is, a fiesty lil'QB, and he WINS GAMES.
Just wanted to say thanks to the broncos for another great year. I think next year should be another easy run through discrict. I know we have alot of holes to fill on the defense but im sure they will be filled as usual. Im hoping we can find somedbody to compete for the quarterback position it would be nice to have someone at the position a little bigger and more athletic. With Mcbride and jak at running back and all our receivers back scoring points should come easily. Thanks again for a great year.
Man'o man, you go from giving thanks,to be-littling the QB,and then continue to smash Herrera in later posts. Wow, is this the same poster that posted the ridiculous "Dayton playing at Cowboy Stadium for the State Championship" thread? Hope not, either way this post is ridiculous as well. Did it ever occur to you that La Marque had probably one of, if not the best defense's Dayton had played all year? Did it ever occur to you that Herrera made some plays in that game that probably no other QB in those situations could have made? Did it ever occur to you how many dropped passes, turnovers, and penalties that didn't involve the QB? You take what your given and make the best of it. The loss against La Marque was a team loss not a Herrera loss and believe me Dayton had their chances because the game was still in question late into the 3rd/early 4th quarter. Remember it's a TEAM sport. This thread just ticks me off. >:(

[glow=red,2,300]Defense[/glow] wins this one...Both teams have shown they can score and score quickly. One three and out for either team may be the deciding factor. Offensive edge LT - Defensive edge FW...gonna be a doozie! Go get it FW. -

Nice win Coogs. Time for a team from the Houston area to win the big one, go get it. -
This thread is hilarious...I remember back in the day getting those all-district patches, hmmmmmm, have no freak'n idea where they're at. Congrat's to all of the guys but IMO the all-district honors in reality doesn't have any bearing on any of these guy's futures in life. When I was leaving the Dayton and La Marque game there was some Crosby faithful walking out with us and stated that if Merka had HALF the blocking that Dayton's OL provided for Herrera then Merka would be a beast. Merka's only worried about one thing right now and thats TCU, oh and the ladies at TCU 8).
Did anyone notice on the kickoff after the fieldgoal that the LM player let it fly over his head and into the endzone. The ball stopped in the endzone and never went out of bounds and was never downed by a LM player. That ball still should have been live and Dayton could have picked it up for a TD. The ref called a touchback but I thought the ball was still live. Is that not the rule anymore?
Nope, as long as it's in the endzone its a touchback. Field of play it's a live ball. -

That's tradition on LM's part despite their recent woes. And they will probably get their 6th ring before Dayton gets its first.....
i said earlier in the season LM was back, this wasnt a surprise to me, coulda went either way. LM is young and experienced, thats dangerous come playoff time. ask folks facing Aledo about that.
Scooter, this doesn't make any sense to me...throwing LM in the same sentence as Aledo? LM (well deserving) is young and inexperienced and 4 rounds deep into the playoffs for the first time in a long time. Aledo has got almost the same exact team from last year and is shooting for State Title #2...don't see the comparison.
LM is young and EXPERIENCED state title or not, they have played in the same amount of games if not more than the kids from Aledo. Games get you experience, they have it. theyre not your average JRs.
Guess I'll just have to disagree and I really didn't see that today. -

Dayton vs. LaMarque "Ghost of Playoffs Past"...Who ya' got
7mary3 replied to rollinac's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I've watched several of La Marque's game films from this year on youtube and it seems they have a pretty good receiver corp. The QB does throw alot of balls up for anyone to catch and if he does this against Dayton hopefully the secondary can make'em pay for it. Lot's of underneath passes and in the flats. There's no doubt Dayton is planning for Tim Wright so it's really a mute point if he's playing or not, the defense will be ready for the run. Mistake free football will win this one. -
