  1. It is sad that school districts make so many changes. Our generation (30-50 year olds) have lost Hebert, Charlton Pollard, South Park, Forest Park, French, Thomas Jefferson, Lincoln, and Stephen F. Austin.
  2. I just compiled the stats, can you believe Jasper has the #2 offense in 18-3A (behind Carthage). Last night's 63 points against H-F put us into the number 2 slot. Center has the #3 offense, yet they have the #1 defense, allowing only 10.2 points per game. Offense; (1) Carthage 166 pf 33.2 pf avg (2) Jasper 131 pf 32.7 pf avg (3) Center 115 pf 28.7 pf avg (4) Rusk 115 pf 23.0 pf avg (5) Diboll 97 pf 24.2 pf avg (6) Huntington 49 pf 9.8 pf avg Defense; (1) Center 41 pa, 10.2 pa avg (2) Jasper 90 pa 22.5 pa avg (3) Carthage 102 pa 20.4 pa avg (4) Rusk 108 pa 21.6 pa avg (5) Huntington 124 pa 24.8 pa avg (6) Diboll 221 pa 55.2 pa avg
  3. When I think of Jasper and Silsbee getting together, it reminds me of Texas and Texas A&M, Alabama and Auburn, Georgia and Georgia Tech, etc. My mother (Jasper '60) has always told me the stories of how it was back in her school days. The police had to escort the busses into and back out of town, whether the game was in Silsbee or in Jasper. It was not unusual for the busses to get pelted with rocks. Nida Marshall wrote in her book "The Jasper Journal", after a Silsbee @ Jasper game in the 1930's (Silsbee won), angry Jasper fans abducted the referees and locked them in the old gym overnight. Wild stuff. I remember in 1982 (I was a freshman), the Jasper defense had a 6 game shutout streak going. Jasper was at Silsbee in the old Kirby Stadium, and Silsbee scored a TD on them in the west end zone. This upset the Dawgs so bad, they blocked the PAT, and then they ran the ensuing kickoff back for a TD. Jasper never looked back and went on to win that game 42-6.
  4. It wouldn't matter if Jasper was 9-0, and Silsbee was 0-9, when these two teams get together the fur will fly. It's one of the oldest rivalries in the state, and this will be their 72nd meeting. The Dawgs and Cats first met in 1922, Silsbee won that first game, 24-6. Since then, Jasper leads the series, 41-28, and the schools have tied twice.
  5. This little asinine diatribe has got to be the most immature and irresponsible statement that I have ever read.
  6. Regarding the Waller defense, I have NEVER seen a defense like that, the only thing I can compare it to is the 1982 Jasper defense. The Lumberton boys have NOTHING to be ashamed of and EVERYTHING to be proud of. If I were a Lumberton player I would have slept good last night with a clear conscience and a peaceful heart.
  7. I did my homework on Stark/Vega, it actually proved difficult to find info on La Vega because they were virtually ignored by mainstream high school football websites - that should tell you something right there. I ended up having to get an online subscription to the Waco newspaper just to find any info on La Vega. To say that La Vega is an obscure team is an understatement. Well, on paper La Vega looks impressive, but in reality their big numbers came at the expense of other schools just as, if not more than, obscure like La Vega. Here goes... Waco La Vega pf 495 pf avg 41.25 pa 122 pa avg 10.16 West Orange-Stark pf 428 pf avg 35.66 pa 166 pa avg 9.66 41.25 + 9.66 = 50.91 / 2 = 25.45 10.16 + 35.66 = 45.82 / 2 = 22.91 Waco La Vega 25.45 West Orange-Stark 22.91 So, on paper Vega is a clear winner over Stark. But, there is that other little thing to consider... REALITY. I mean, come on, we're talking about West Orange-Stark, a 4-A school trapped in a 3-A body. La Vega will probably give Stark a good run for their money, but in the end it will be the pony express playing next week while the Pirates are playing basketball.
  8. We are Jasper Bulldogs but we have boarded the train with y'all, my neice is a sophomore at LHS. We have followed Lumberton's progress all year, went to the Nederland game, listened to the Smiley and La Marque games over the internet, and will be at the Waller game (of course with our Jasper Bulldogs shirts on). By the way, a reminder to people from other schools, it's always great to wear your own school colors and t-shirts, etc, to another schools playoff games, especially when they are from southeast Texas. We may all be enemies on Friday nights, but in the playoffs we need to have solidarity and show our pride for southeast Texas. I can assure you that this year EVERYBODY is happy and excited for Lumberton.
  9. Regarding the Rice change, it could have possibly been a situation where another school had already tentatively booked the Stadium pending the result of their game, therefore they had first priority. As for Deer Park, I agree with everyone else, it's very nice but I have SERIOUS concerns about the size issue. My daughter and I are traveling from Jasper just to see Lumberton play and I know that there will be many many other people that will go to this game ESPECIALLY after Lumberton beat La Marque. Your Coach is in a dilemma because the Waller staff are going to want as small a venue as possible because they know that the "12th car" of the "L Train" will be the 8,000+ people that I estimate will go to this particular game. If Lumberton tries to force it's hand, then Waller may balk and then you end up in a coin flip and/or UIL intervention to make a decision. As it stands now it's Deer Park, word to the wise... GET THERE EARLY!
  10. Lumberton pf 384 pf avg 32.0 pa 149 pa avg 12.4 Waller pf 414 pf avg 34.5 pa 185 pa avg 15.4 32.0 + 15.4 = 47.4 / 2 = 23.7 12.4 + 34.5 = 46.9 / 2 = 23.4 Lumberton 23.7 Waller 23.4 That's about as close as you can get but at least Lumberton has the slightest of slightest edge.
