Ryan Leaf, Alex Smith, Vince Young, along with every Tech QB draft have either struggled or sitting the bench in the pros. Also, it's killing offensive linemen as well. Say what you want about the option but Nebraska kept an Olineman in the first round of the draft. Sissy ball is watering down all positions on offense sans Wide Receiver.... Theisman sure makes some good points in his article...like his idea that the spread offense requires QB runs and Ray Lewis being there to meet them. Anyone ever seen a Tech QB run the football in Leach's 9 years at Tech or any Oklahoma QB known for their running?? What about Hawaii...any runs there? Regardless of your preferred offense it just matters how many points you put on the board. Most defenses are set up to stop the conventional offense (2 backs, 2 receivers, 1 TE). 4-3, 3-4, 46 etc...change that to a spread offense and the defense has to change into something they may not necessarily be good at (see Pittsburg's vaunted #1 defense in the Superbowl for example). What is wrong with being unconventional especially if it's successful?? Just a quick glance at the state champions in HS and the BCS teams from college makes me think the spread offense is here to stay.

Who are we kidding here...did you see last year's defense with all the suspensions. It's going to hurt losing Dylan, Cameron, and Terry but we're talking about losing skill position players (specifically athletes) and there's always athletes coming through Dayton. Offensive line...that's another matter.

What type of offense would you run if...

The spread became popular in part because it can "hide" the offensive line. Veer attack better have some road-graters. Slot -T works well with small lineman also when it's run correctly. -
Right...of course it makes you feel old when you get yes sir and no sir all night....call me dude or something!

I think you could say this to just about every school. I myself am guilty of it at times as well....we could all give the coach a break now and again....especially if he's gone to the playoffs 13 straight!!!!!!!!

Really uplifting man, really. Nice job throwing a kid under the bus for smoking pot on a forum page. One can only wonder how your daughter "knows" they're smoking pot unless she either been there or taken part. Good job dude...maybe Toups can put you on the cover of his DVD's. I've got news for you...pot is everywhere from NY to LA to Amsterdam. -

I chuckle at the 75 grade he received on ESPN. Makes you wonder how many games these "experts" truly watch. -
Good to see all you guys there...Bronco 1, I appreciate your son's manners, but he dropped the yes sir on me about 5 times...makin' me feel OLD man:)! Really glad all of you showed up.

I hope someone took some cells from that kid when he was a freshman and we can somehow clone him. There may not be another one like him in purple for a long time... -
Is this dinner still on for this evening in Silsbee??

I like the spread even more in the red-zone if you've got a QB who can run the ball. -
True, yawn, but I actually am starting to like the idea for 4A at least. Except those districts that have all of 5 teams.

You can say that again...I asked for Hummus the other day at the grocery store...guy looked at me like I was on crack. Let's not even get into the Cayote/Merliton squash that I was looking for over Thanksgiving...had to drive to Orange for that. -

Auburn...no kiddin'. That was quite a coupe for them with the new coach. Hopefully he runs a system that uses the kid's talents (not sure about what kind of system their new coach runs). -
Beatings...no....running your behind into the ground until your tongue hangs out...another story.

Want a HS Coaches' job??? Think twice...

A good portion of that scrutiny that you say they have to endure, is dished out right here on this message board. I am in no way saying that the message board is the problem. We all know the problem. People who feel they have been wronged by such things as playing time is the problem. That, and people who think the coach should be able to win the thoroughbred race riding a donkey. Double edged sword to a certain point though isn't it. Yes, coaches have to endure overzealous parents (hope I don't end up being one), un-informed fans (donkey blast was great), and whiny kids along with the scrutiny on these boards. HOWEVER, would the job be as high profile, high paying, and rewarding if the fans weren't there to watch the game? Take the good with the bad type scenario if you ask me. -

Well I think the Spread O is personnel driven vs. just plug and play. You either have to have a slew of RB's coming through or a wave of QB's and WR's plus the Oline has to be stellar year in and out. It's a different type of blocking for the O-Line. You don't need 300 lbs road-graters to run the spread or run and shoot or whatever name it will have in the future. It takes greater advantage of athletes in the open field and makes the defense cover the whole field instead of ramming 8 or 9 guys in the box. It doesn't work as well if you don't have a QB that can throw the ball. -

:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( Good luck to the coach but always hate to see good coaches leave the area (especially when it seems like they have their programs on the brink...). -

There's not all that much difference in whatever scheme you're running...execution is the key especially in High School. I prefer whatever offense can go down and stick it in the endzone the most times. You typically score quickly out of the spread which means you're always in the game. Up 14-0 against a spread team is ALOT different than 14-0 against a team running the triple option out of the flex-bone.
