  1. Personally, I remember the Rainbow Cafe in Liberty as being a great place to eat. ROT used to come to the Rainbow...he truly is an Old Timer!! Frank's had the best gumbo I've ever tasted to this day (and the better half is from New Orleans and doesn't appreciate that too much). Unfortunately, I can't take her there and prove it.
  2. I still have a hard time fathoming what's drawing him to U of H?? Everybody and their dog has called and he's given them all the thumbs down. Truly a well deserved honor and I can't say it enough times, this kid is special.
  3. Tell me about it...Dayton was up something like 40-7 or so two years ago AT OUR PLACE with 30 seconds to go and the visitors stands were filled to the gills and the band was still playing that song over and over again. You can hear it on the highlight video. [Hidden Content]
  4. Dayton, you're exactly right. Me, being one of the PNG fans that got upset when the bashing against my school, played right into the "bashers" hands.....they, the bashers, walked away with the victory. However, like so many, I will defend my school on a public forum. There was a little over the top bashing...PN-G being "too good" or "the Notre Dame of High School" or the few other ones I heard. Of course the forum is about discussion...whatever that may be. I don't think PN-G's school board handled this the right way but I don't think they violated any laws either. I just prefer public entities using public funds to be more transparent...I could have cared less about the coaches on the list (unless one was Jerry Stewart). I know PN-G will get a good coach and I look forward to him bringing back the tradition. Maybe he can get the band to shut it down on that Indian fight song for 2 or 3 total minutes of the game...song is still stuck in my head.
  5. Couldn't agree more, we all know the drill. The kids gets physicals and medical exams to ensure they're healthy enough to play sports. I feel for the parents that lost the child and I somehow doubt the coach wants "a kid died at my practice under my watch" on his resume'. It's just a bad situation all around but we know these things can happen with 200,000 or so kids playing football every year. I hope this reaches a suitable resolution and I hope to never have to hear about another incident like this.
  6. I get a little scared of PN-G if Vance gets the job...not too scared mind you but he'll actually turn them back into a force. I'd guess it's going to take a pretty good offer for him to leave Liberty Hill where he pretty much gets what he wants. He's not all that young either and I don't think he takes the job if he thinks it's a long rebuilding effort.
  7. I just had a conversation with a friend of mine and the government subject was brought up. I know there are things that the government does that none of us will ever know about and I don't want to know. You have no idea.....
  8. Now was that so hard...I can finally concentrate on getting a life!!
  9. Honestly, name a school or any job that does not have politics involved?? Store clerk at Stop n Go?? ;D
  10. I wouldn't quite say PN-G is a joke...they've got some of the best fans I've ever seen in HS Ball. How their school board has handled this situation just makes you wonder...
  11. Might want to feel more like OJ...I'm sure he couldn't understand why the media was "in the tank" either. At least McCain never violated any laws or spit in the face of the taxpayer.
  12. This looks shady and smells bad on the part of PN-G...how would you feel if the tax collector acted in this type of manner? These board members are the ones SPENDING your tax dollars. I wouldn't just trust ELECTED officials will have everyone's best interest in mind.
  13. Have we decided if this is going to be buffet style, pre-order, or pay your own way yet?
  14. Not necessarily, the downturn in the economy has something to do with it but the plants there on Chemical Road that have funded West Orange Cove ISD are old, outdated, and making very little or losing money. New plant construction is going to China, India, other cheap labor countries. West Orange Cove ISD HAS BEEN VERY WELL INFORMED OF THIS AND HAS REFUSED TO LISTEN. I'm sure that's not the source of all the problems but it's a very large contributing one being it's one of their largest if not the largest source of revenue for the school district. How you can get a school district into that much of a deficit...I'm not sure, but it does point to incompetence. Ironically, from the other discussion threads, some folks would disagree with WO and have you trust the board to do their jobs without releasing any information. Today it's not releasing a list of coaching candidates, next it's less than full disclosure on a bond; what's it going to be tomorrow...refusal to disclose the budget?
  15. Sure sounds like a bad way to shave the excess off the budget. $16,000...is that all??
  16. Why do you "deserve" to know? What decision do you have in the process? Unless you are on the committee, you have no say as to whom gets hired, so what difference does it make who applies? You elected officials to do their job. Let them do it and don't worry about it. Support your elected officials and support their decision. You deserve to know because the school district is funded by your tax dollars. You have elected a board to oversee the administration of the school and how those funds are spent. You also do have a say in who gets hired...wanting information so you can be a more educated voter is not a lack of support for your elected officials. Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves are its only safe depositories. Thomas Jefferson
  17. I guess you are the one to give it to us? Name one program in the area with the history of PN-G not named WO-S. Name one other program that has played in a state title game in the last ten years not named WO-S. Lumberton is just a powerhouse right? Playoffs twice in 50 years. Whoooop! You guys are so aggy. The p*n*s envy just oozes from everyone of your posts. Dayton
  18. It probably was time for a change and I hope that PNG becomes the team they've been again. Better competition makes every team in SETX better. When Dayton played PNG the two years we were in the district, my mother was telling us what plays were coming and she knows nothing about football. The kids played hard and looked to be well coached, but the offensive creativity was just not there.
  19. Part of the pay of a head football coach centers around the fact their sport typically brings in the most revenue...
  20. TOUGH to argue with this and I have to agree. The taxpayers have the right to know whatever they want when it comes to the public school system. Personally I don't have a dog in the fight either but I'd like to see who the potential candidates are just out of curiosity...I'd want to know if I was a resident of the school district.
  21. Watch the fallout from that decision by BC as well. You think any good coach with any sort of aspirations beyond BC (which isn't really that good of a job in the first place) will EVER take a job there?
  22. R u kiddin'...me or maybe D. Pearson
  23. Don't live in PN-G but this topic has been interesting since the old coach stepped down. If one of the candidates is concerned about losing his job then he's probably in the wrong job anyway IMO. Anyone standing in the way of anyone trying to better their situation is probably not someone you want to be working for in the first place.
  24. What did you tell him? Take the money and run?
