  1. My guess is that Dayton probably puts up at least 35. I've heard Elgin runs the spread as well so it should be a game of "who has the better athletes." I like Dayton's chances in that scenario.
  2. The slot t has a number of variations and is a smashmouth type of football. It can be hard to stop if run correctly but it also requires PERFECT execution. A holding penalty is pretty much a drive stopper in this kind of offense and if you can get ahead early you really take them out of their game. Third and long is a death sentence for this type of offense and quite frankly it's also about the most boring football that you'll ever see.
  3. haha, I guess if you're into malls...
  4. Let's just hope to get a win. After last week's Livingston game we know that no one will lay down.
  5. Anyone know anybody in the Booster Club? I've got Friday off and I could start putting something together for Friday afternoon. Anyone have any ideas? I'll be happy to do the cooking...I've got a fairly decent sized pit I could bring and throw a brisket on. There's plenty of cook off teams from Dayton that compete in the Old Tyme Days every year. Anyone know someone that does that? We'd need some stereo equipment for music but if we want to serve alcohol then we'll have to find another place besides the WWJH Parking Lot. Anyone have any ideas...what about the parking lot in front of the old American Rice Growers Dryer in the middle of town? If we can get the booster club involved then we could get some donations. I'll start looking for a place and the equipment...feel free to add to this list Required: Location - School means no alcohol BBQ Pit Lots of Meat - Ribs, Brisket, Pork Chops, Sausage Sides - Beans, Potato Salad, Chips Drinks - Soda, Water Music - Stereo equipment or a live band if anyone happens to know one around there Seating - Tables and Chairs - maybe one of the churches would lone tables and chairs? Optional: Beer or BYOA Washers or other yard game Prize to raffle off Blow up jumper for kids Let's get this going...and someone find me a name of someone in the booster club...the school doesn't even know anyone in the booster club. Where in the heck is the booster club?
  6. It was a pretty good plan to hold the ball and control the clock. They played a perfect game and caught a few breaks up until the 4th and 8. They were penalized 0 times for 0 yards, recovered 3 fumbles, and got away with 2 bounced snaps to the punter. One more defensive stop or turnover and they win the game. Dayton kids better come to play next week instead of coming out flat and uninspired.
  7. Two best players I ever played against. Michael Bishop - Willis High School and the next guy was in college but was far and away the best player I have seen on a football field: Randy Moss - Marshall Never got to see VY but Jacquizz Rogers from Lamar Consolidated is the best player I've seen in the last 6 years since I moved back to Texas.
  8. Just short of Austin. I hear the game is going to be Friday night at Bronco Stadium.
  9. One heck of a good job Livingston. Great job playing tough power football and doing something I've never seen anyone do to a Jerry Stewart coached team and ram it right down our throats. Probably should have involved the QB a little more in the gameplan somehow and tried to get him into space but you can't argue with the 22 dive that probably averaged about 7 yards a rush. Great job by the Bronco D to finally step it up near the end and shut down the inside running. Can someone please tell me where the Linebackers were most of the game? And can someone please fall on a fumble!
  10. I would say Central's front seven were much faster. When they put 9 in the box to stop the run they probably had 9 guys in the box that ran a 4.8 or better. That is fast and they still put 30 on Central. You neutralize speed by running right at someone. Ask CE King what happens when you run right at the Bronco defense...Three plays and a punt Who is to say the Livingston offense isn't better than King's? I'll say it...Livingston's offense is not better than King's. As far as speed goes...Livingston will not play a faster overall team than they play tomorrow.
  11. LUMBERTON, what the heck...I go out of town for a week and all hell breaks loose. After watching y'all last week, I figured this game to be a foregone conclusion. Nederland looked like a better team than Crosby. Oh well, maybe we'll get to see the rivalry continue in the future???
  12. Nederland will have a tough time in this game...I hope they keep it close but I see King taking this one in a route. The Hannah kid from Lumberton had 337 and 4 tds...the Alexander kid from King is bigger and faster and King mixes it up better with reverses and a better option game. King - 45 Nederland - 14
  13. Hmmm...I think Lumberton wins this game but I wouldn't be surprised if Crosby takes it either. Strength against speed. I don't see a blowout either way...
  14. 20? This team doesn't get held under 40 in district and Livingston's going to hold us to 20?
  15. Saturday at 7...Morehead Stadium in Conroe. Rematch of last year's third round match-up. Haven't seen this thread yet so figured I'd post it. Sorry if it's already there somewhere and I just haven't seen it. Anyone seen them play? I hear the QB Harris is elusive...same one from last year. The had some limited success on offense but turned the ball over and their defense never came close to stopping Dayton last year. Has their defense improved? Has the offense gotten any better? My guess is that we put 40 on the board and see if they can match it.
  16. Are you kidding...we've got the biggest railyard in the state right in the middle of town...all I ever hear is trains. We'd be happy for you to bring the L-Train on over. We'd park it in the middle of the yard and watch it rust.
  17. I'll take my crow as well but at least make mine rare. Don't kid yourself either...we'd have been MORE THAN HAPPY to end your playoff run at 1 game.
  18. Lumberton probably wins that game.
  19. Ahhh...the dream match-up thwarted:(. Nice job Lumberton...I think I may have witnessed your program turning the corner. I enjoyed Nederland's stadium as well...atmosphere was great (especially after this year in 19-4A). Nederland seemed to be flat...I'm guessing the suspensions this week were probably a distraction or Lumberton was more ready to play. Anyway, both teams were talented...Nederland get's CE King. They're somewhat of a carbon copy of Lumberton...not as tough but probably a more talented offensive team. Their defense doesn't get after you with near the intensity of Lumberton...hopefully you have a better showing there when you get the suspended players back. Lumberton get's Crosby which is pretty much a carbon copy of Nederland with a slightly better defense and not quite as good of a running back...I'd expect you to win that one going away 35-21 or something along those lines. Good luck to everyone in the playoffs. Any scouting reports on Livingston? I know they have the QB back from last year's team and they had a HUGE offensive line that was really slow.
  20. From what I hear he could use an upgrade at d-coordinator.
  21. Oh yeah...in Nederland to see the first round opponent. Rock the black and gold!!
  22. Yeah well, you worry too much. Your criticisms of a high school quarterback are over the top. I am not sure what more you want from a kid, but he is doing a great job. Yeah, you're right...I guess I'll just watch the game and drink the purple kool-aid from now on. Playoff round one is most likely at Morehead Stadium but guaranteed in Conroe on Saturday. We'll find out tonight who the opponent will be...
  23. I hope so but it still only takes one bad game.
