Basketball could be completely different from Cross Country and Track, but when I was deciding on where to run I talked to several coaches on the phone before I was going to visit their school. They can give you a pretty good idea of what kind of scholarship money they are going to be able to give you. Then you can set up official and unofficial visits to the schools and meet with the coaches and see campus and stuff like that

BC CC Teams win Nederland Meet
cardinalcc replied to cardinalcc's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sorry coach if it seemed like I was trying to knock your team because that was definitely not my intention. The lack of depth was more towards the girls team than the guys team. Your guys are running faster than we did last year when we went to state. We didn't have 5 under 19 mins until district except for the Jasper race which was short. Your teams have some very strong, young runners who will only get better and will hopefully along with BC turn region 3 back into contenders at state. It is still way early in the season though and I am sure that you will have all of your runners where they need to be on Nov.8 when it counts. And Van Wade does do an amazing job covering Orange County CC. We are very lucky to have him. There has been an article every week about a meet since at least when I started running in 7th grade and I am sure long before that too. Oh and I am Ryan Kelly, I ran for BC but have graduated and now run for Lamar. I don't want you to think that I am one of the HS kids on here talking smack against y'all ha. -
BC CC Teams win Nederland Meet

Yes, Huffman had some strong runners as well. They looked pretty strong up front but lack the depth to compete for a team title. It is still early though and I don't know how young the teams are but hopefully they can come around by November when it counts. -

Dayton Meet this Saturday
cardinalcc replied to PANTHERPLAYA09's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yes it is pretty hot. Thats because its still August though and races are being run at like 10 in the morning, which I am very against running races that late with temperatures how they are. But if you are properly hydrated then it shouldn't be a factor for a 3 mile race. That is something that I have put a huge emphasis on this summer because I have had to up the mileage quite a bit to be able to compete in college. Many high school runners are not drinking enough. I know that I didn't in hs, but being hydrated helps you run so much better in races and workouts. -
Dayton Meet this Saturday

I know that Bridge City will be there. This will be a good meet to see where you are at off of your summer base training since most people haven't started to do speed yet. Its a flat, fast course so there could be some fast times even with this rain that we've got. -

2008 Cardinal CC Camp & End of Summer Run

Just wanted to bump this. Coach Knight does an outstanding job putting on the camp and the race. I have been to every camp as a camper and now an alumni. It is a great camp that teaches young kids how to properly stretch, prepare for a race, and that running is fun!! Bridge City's cross country team has been to state 5 out of the last 6 years, and most of us got our start at the camp because it was fun! For all of you people on here who run(even if you don't run competitively), I would like to encourage you and your families to come out. It is a very fun run and a good way to meet new people. There are some very fast runners for those looking to run a good time and there are some joggers who are just out there to have fun. The races are also the team's fundraiser, so that they can buy racing spikes for the upcoming seasons and attend some high-profile meets(McNeil and Texas A&M). So come on out on Aug. 2 for a good time and to help support BCCC. Also, there has been a time change for the start of the races. 1 mile-7:30 a.m. 1 1/2-7:40 a.m. 2 mile-8:00 a.m. 5k-8:30 a.m. -
Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte just broke the 400m IM world record. Phelps-4:05.25 Lochte-4:06.08 Ivory Williams finished 5th in his semifinal and didnt qualify for the finals. Tyson Gay ran a 9.68 and won the 100m. It wasn't a world record because the wind reading was a 4.1.

German Fernandez..New HS 2 Mile Record
cardinalcc replied to cardinalcc's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The scary part is they will both be attending Oklahoma State next year. OSU finished 3rd last year at Nationals and should be pretty good now landing 2 of the top 5 guys in the country. -
German Fernandez of Riverbank, California just ran a 8:34.4 and broke Jeff Nelson's 2 mile record of 8:36.3 at the Nike Outdoor National meet. Colby Lowe of Southlake Carroll finished 3rd with a 8:47.07.

Well I always thought it would be cool to do a decathlon, thats what clicked with the events I saw she did, but I am horrible at field events(So I stick with distance running. I would like to try the steeple chase someday though). Here are the events that are in the Heptathlon for women in college, she would do very well with a little help if she decides to do this: 100m Hurdles High Jump- she jumped 5'5 Shot Put 200m Dash- ran a 25.03 Long Jump- she jumped 18'7 Javelin Throw 800m Run She also threw disc 121' and ran a 12.19 in 100m -
I think they will be over .500 and possibly in the wild card hunt towards the end. I don't see them making they playoffs though. There are other teams with more experience who I think will come around and move ahead of them.

I think if she enjoys track enough and continues to work hard, she would be a very good heptathlete at any college she wanted to go to. -
