Revised Subject: BABE RUTH BASEBALL

Honestly, how hard is it to play to win every single game? Ive been coaching baseball since forever. I eat, sleep, and breathe the game. Im in college as we speak to make it truely my life. Its not hard, more times than not its obvious. Yes, sometimes being a dad with a kid on the team does get in the way. Weve all seen it, fortunately I dont have this problem, but still it would seem to me that if youre kids on the team you would want the team to win and not put your own child in a position to fail. Maybe thats just me. I know just about every single 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 year old all stars this year and their coaching staffs hopefully all of you guys win alot of ball games this summer. -
Mid County Sr Babe Ruth 2008 Season

This 18 yr old team should roll through to the world series. Youre 9 deep on the hill and its not just any arms. Youve got 9 very good pitchers. This team is better than the team that won it in 2002. They might not lose a game. -
Im not going to name anyone, its their personal business. So well leave it as a 14-16 yr old. Great kid and ball player though.

Why scolded for shoulder therapy? Hell be throwing again in a couple of weeks because of it. As far as 16U ball in the spring time goes, there is. As long as theyre not playing varsity baseball. They should play select if they have the opportunity. As long as theyre managed responsibly its a great thing to be a part of.

As far as meaningless tournaments go, theyre 14-16 years old. In the long run these tournaments are pretty much meaningless. Yes, its experience which Im a huge fan of, but they still have 4-6 more years of baseball at least before theyre done. Why continue pitch a young kid as well as play him at ss, when he can hardly pick up a baseball. Tell the kid to go home and ice it and massage it every night and he'll be ok. Why wouldnt you advise him to see a doctor? If you cared about him and his arm as much as you should you would. The kid is now going to therapy for his shoulder.

PNG vs. Bridge City Warmup Game- Friday
sangster05 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Never said they were going to need 5 or 6 guys, but one of those guys are going to have to throw some innings. Harrington and Todd will not go the distance every single playoff game. Why not throw them in a "warm up game" so they can get work in in a game like situation rather than in the bullpen? -

If they were smart, they would throw their other guys who are going to end up playing big roles in a playoff run. In a 3 game series there is no way Harrington or Hicks could throw games 1 and 3. Both coaches know what their #1 and #2 pitchers can do, theyve seen them doing it all year. Youre telling me that in a game 3 for PNG that it couldnt come down to Spikes (who's been closing all year), Benoit (who hasnt thrown all that much), Sweetenham (who I havent seen throw a varsity inning all year), or even Deron (who has pitcher very well on JV, but thats JV). Why wouldnt you throw all these guys, some of them will have to throw eventually and the playoff run could rest on it. -

You play it like a scrimmage because thats basically what it is. It means NOTHING. Why go out there and throw Harrington for 6 innings and take a chance on something bad happening. Then you go real far in the playoffs. This "game" means nothing. -

There is a good chance to scoreboard wont be on. Neither coach is going to go out of his way to win this game. Youll probly see 5-6 different pitchers for each team trying to get guys who havent thrown in a while, especially for PNG since they have pretty much been throwing 2 guys most of the way. Got to get the young guys ready for a playoff run. -
too bad they risk their young arms to win meaningless tourneys.

If my memory serves me right, he is a junior? Which means if hes a junior throwing on JV at Nederland he probly wont see the mound much, if at all, on varsity next season. Especially with Dean and Bellow alraedy ahead of him. Ryan Brady is also there who pitches as well. If he was that good he would be up on varsity for Coach Robbins already. Ill take Spencer Deron from PNG. He threw a complete game no hitter a couple weeks back. He was then pulled up to varsity and in his 1st at bat hit a 2 run bomb. He's for real. I dont think you can really count Sweetenham as a JV pitcher. Hes been with varsity for the majority of the season. No doubt hes a very very good pitcher and will carry PNG for the next 2 years, but hes not a JV pitcher IF he was he would have my vote no doubt. BUT ill go with Deron instead. -
The only place to play coed softball is in Beaumont these days. Port Arthur is mens only and Nederland hasnt had their coed league since hurricane Rita. Although its too late to put a team together for the spring since we are about to be 4 weeks into the season, the summer season starts mid june i belive. Or you can go out to the complex on monday nights, which is coed night, and try to pick up with a team that is short girls that night.

Id love to see a crazy mid county madness game friday night. Im talking a few thousand fans, some cheerleaders and even the bands. A true representation of mid county madness. That would be a sight to see and one intense atmosphere. I can just hear cherokee after every inning ending strikeout or home run.

*LC-M vs. PN-G/11-1 PN-G Wins/Comments*

Lets not sit here and just blame skills123, hes entitled to his opinion and can say what he likes. Its just as much the person(s) fault that just assumed it is/was Eric. Which in all honestly is quite ignorant. Throwing names around of high school guys and accusing them of saying things that you have no proof of isnt cool at all. Its more like a cheap shot at someone you dont even know and for no good reason. Pretty lame in my opinion. -

You people are putting way too much stock on what is posted in this forum. Who cares who that person is? Let them say what they want and blow them off. Im as big of a pro PNG person there is in the forum. Went to school there and played there, big deal. I know Eric, and I seriously doubt its him. BUT even if it is whats it matter? Its text, hes obviously proved everything there is to prove so far this season. -
good pitching beats good hitting, PNG wins.

No sir, It would seem that he doesnt. I was at that game last night and Harrington's stuff was as good as its been all season. His 2-seam fastball and breaking ball were absolutely the best Ive see all year. A hit batsmen, an infield single and an error gave Dayton their runs for the night. PNG still needs to hit a little more than what they have been. And the defense could be a little tighter. The kid who started on the mound for Dayton threw well early. The defense behind him killed him early. No communication on the Harrington triple in the OF, Throwing error on Todd's single in the 1st that gave in second too. But the kids stuff wasnt all that bad. Had a little lack of confidence in his fastball, had to use his offspead pitches to get ahead which ended up killing him. Good game though.
