Vidor 7-0 over PNG? Get real. First off Harrington wont give up 7 runs. Second, Harrington, Carnahan, Benoit, Todd and Spikes wont be kept off the scoreboard. Its more likely for Harrington to shut out Vidor than either Vidor pitcher to shut out PNG.

No whats funny is you lost and were supposed to accept it. Trust me we accept the fact that we won. It has nothing to do with winning by 1 run or 10 runs, a W is a W. Just for the record, "bigdog," almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades not baseball. So you keep getting as "close" to us as you want, but close just isnt good enough. Maybe you should accept that.

You could walk anyone of them depending upon whos on deck.

MCSportsFan, I definitely did forget about the play Bellows made on the double play. That was a heck of a play. Bigdog, were happy everytime we win. It could have been better because we could have played better defensively. I promise you it wont be so close in round 2 on the reservation. indians89 you are correct. Still no answer for the pinch hit? Any Nederland people have an answer? adminbaberuth, blue did miss a few calls, but they always do. Lets not blame the umps for anything. The "error" Spikes made at first was absurd. He clearly caught the ball at first came off the bag to throw it around the horn and blue says he dropped it and called the runner safe. That was by far the worst call of the game.

For all the talk about this being a classic and such, it wasnt as close of a game as it seemed. Png's 7 errors, yes 7, the one in RF never got put on the scoreboard, kept Nederland in the game. Now to better things, even though PNG did have 7 E's in the game there were some nice defensive plays. Mitch Todd made one of the best plays ive seen in a while down the third base line and another one on a tough play coming in towards home and throwing off balance to first in a big situation. Harrington made a nice play up the middle at SS once he left the mound. But if PNG doesnt learn to make the routine plays its going to kill them in the end. It was nice seeing Spikes finally get the bat going a little bit, he also looked very good coming in to close the game out in a jam. If Harrington can get his D making routine plays behind him he shouldnt give up any runs. Vidrine was a pleasent surprise for Nederland. He made all the plays at 2B including a very nice play going back onto the OF grass. He also had most of Ned's RBIs. Just a couple of questions. 1. Why pinch hit for McFarland, his senior 4-hole hitter, down towards the end of the game with 2 runners on with a slap hitting freshman that wanted no part of Harrington? 2. Why does Stone continue to show bunt with a 1-2 count for 2 more pitches with his 2-hole hitter? Now that ended up working out because Jalali made a heads up play and swiped 3rd, then Reyenga ended up grounding out to 2b on a 3-2 pitch. All in all it was a fun game to be in the stands and cant wait til round 2.

next WO-S baseball coach - where's Shugart?

What they ought to do is hire a young, baseball orientented guy to come in a build his own program. Someone who may actually be there a while and make a name for himself and the baseball program. Just my opinion. -
Sweetenham has been lights out for PNG so far this yaer. Harrington is definitely the ace of the staff, if not the district too. But with Sweet being a quality #2 and Spikes slamming to door at the end PNG is extremely tough. As far as PNG falling 5-4 to Ozen if Harrington doesnt chunk is almost laughable.

Kirby was also impressive on the mound against Conroe Oak Ridge.

I agree with both strategies. Crowding the plate and pitching inside. Its part of the game. As for the Barbe coaches needing to back off... Im sure they have something to do with their hitters being all over the plate. But lets get real, the players today are smart. They know if the stay on the plate its to their advantage 90% of the time. Give the kids some credit, they know whats going on. Ive had 13yr olds that refuse to back down from an inside pitch, take it, and trot to first like theyre supposed to. Its a no fear mentallity thats been pressed upon the game in recent years and kids today are alot less afraid than they used to be.

who in this thread has actually watched Harrington throw this season? he is pitching very good.

Why's the Astros' First Baseman "pomising" anything to a Freshman baseball player at LSU? Just curious. ??? please tell me this guy isnt serious!? -

Sulpher had 10 runs on only 5 hits. So PNG didnt pitch bad, just did play well in the field. And obviously didnt hit. -

I was pretty impressed with Ozen when they played Bridge City about a week or so ago. Not real sure about names other than Lott. He looked real good on the mound. The SS and the CF were both impressive defensively as well.

Harrington has yet to throw for PNG but he will be the best once the season begins. Spikes threw for the first time last week and was fairly sharp. No hits and one walk. Biggest task will be finding a consistent #3 pitcher. Woods has looked good in all but one of his outings so far this year, he may end up being able to hold the 3 spot down for PNG.
-
Game was somewhat sloppy at the plate for both teams. Base running could have been much better for PNG. Harrington looked great in the field and at the plate. His first bomb go out of the park in about 2 seconds. And welcome back Jerin Spikes, good first showing of the year on the mound last night. Woods and Sweetenham aslo pitched very well. HF did a good job of using the hit and run. Im not sure who pitched the 4th for HF, but despite giving up the home run to Harrington he looked pretty good.
