45 minutes till show time!! Plenty of time to come out and join us. If not, get those questions and comments posted!
What will it take for Nederland to get noticed in state rankings? Will Nederland make it to the Regional Tourney again this year? Outside of Silsbee and HJ, who (locally) has the best chance (all classifications) to make it to Austin? Will the UIL ever crack down on [s]recruiting[/s] transferring?

TABC State Polls/UPDATED at top of forum
Still no Nederland in 4A poll! and why did Kountze drop out of top 25 in 2A poll after getting back in last week?
Good question. Last year at this time, Ned was 21-4 and ranked around #19, I believe? This year 20-5 and not ranked yet. Dallas Lincoln currently holds spot #19 with a 9-8 record. Don't have a clue who they lost against, but when has one game above .500 ever considered a top team? Of course it's nice to be ranked at this time of the season, but the year ending ranking is most important, and Nederland will get noticed along the way. Hopefully this makes the kids that much more hungry to prove they are as good as last year's team. -
After a huge victory Friday night, Silsbee must face another tough opponent Tuesday against WO-S. Does Silsbee start the game with some jet lag after winning such a big game or do they take care of business as expected? WO-S started the season slow (and without some football players), but have drastically improved since. It took OT and a last second shot for PAM to beat WO-S recently, and it took a last second shot for Ned to beat WO-S a few weeks ago. Will Silsbee win this game on a last second shot too? I believe Silsbee still wins, but it should be a closer game than some expect, IMO.

Why Not A Shot Clock In High School
Honest Abe replied to BLUEDOVE3's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I would not object to a :35 clock, but would prefer to see a :45 sec shot clock. Not a fan of a team holding the ball at mid court for 5 minutes like what happened in the OT game between Central and Memorial in the Bulldog Classic. -
Shawn Prudhomme.....Is he the BEST in SETX this year?
Honest Abe replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Kristian Smith is an exciting player, no doubt. But he's not the best player in the area. He's not even the best player in 20-4A, IMO. He may be the most explosive player in 20-4A, but not the best. -

The last district game that Ned lost was on Feb 2, 2010 against LC-M. Ned finished by winning their last 4, then beat Ozen in double OT for the district playoff Title. So: 5 to finish that season, 14-0 last season, and 5-0 so far this season. Unless I missed something, then that makes 24 in a row going into the game Tuesday against Ozen. Let's keep it going NB-Dawgs!
I'm going roll with Ozen by 3
::) ::) ::)

Where I gave Lumberton credit for playing hard on Friday, I think the game was a wakeup call for the Dawgs. This team thrives when they have to. Example: On Friday night, the game was tied, and Lumberton fans got excited and loud. After that, Ned went on a 16-1 run to finish the game. Not many Ned fans went to the game, and Lumberton fans were scarce in numbers as well, so the gym did not provide an exciting environment like it was on Tuesday. It seems like the bigger the game, the better they play. Which will come in handy during playoff time. Ozen will always be a big game for Nederland, so I expect the kids will respond and bring home the 'W'.

The same discussion is going on over on the football forum regarding moving the Ned/PNG football game to Beaumont as well. Most people don't want it bc of the tradition of playing at each other's stadiums. The game usually draws around 10-15k each year, but I'm guessing 20k may attend if played on a neutral field on a Saturday. It was so bad this year that a (non-football) head coach from Nederland was unable to get into the game until after half time (game was at The Reservation).

How the Dirty Dozen fared in week 9
Honest Abe replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Going to be interesting to see who the top three will be between Nederland, Silsbee, and HJ. #2 beats #2 by 17, and #4 beats #1 (in the state) by 3. Will also be interesting to see if Silsbee will jump HJ in the state rankings. Jumping from 7 to 1 is unlikely, but Silsbee could be ranked #3 and HJ #4. It is also possible that HJ is still ranked above Silsbee (in the state poll). Not that it's right, but it's possible that HJ could be #3 and Silsbee #4. I know it's just a ranking, but it's fun to talk about. How do y'all see it playing out? -
A few other stats: FT % HJ 11/31 36% ouch! :o SIL 8/16 50% 3 Point % HJ 3/18 17% SIL 7/20 35% very impressive, especially after starting 1-10 to start the game. Rebounds HJ 40 SIL 33 Turnovers HJ 29 SIL 24 That's a lot of turnovers for both teams.

Tough loss for my Hawks. Now that I have had time to eat, think about the game and cool down from such an exciting game I will give my thoughts. 1. Both teams came out really tight. 2. HJ opened it up in the 1st half with hitting the glass hard. 3. Silsbee stayed in it with a couple of big 3s and defense in the 2nd. 4. HJ went ICE COLD in the 3rd. 5. Silsbee showed their quickness in the 3rd and got HOT from outside. 6. HJ could not buy a FT and had 14 TO in the 3rd. 7. HUGE 3 for Prudhomme at the end of the 3rd to cut it to 15. 8. HJ came out hot in the 4th and played great defense. 9. Silsbee started to fold in the 4th giving up a 15 pt lead. 10. HJ tied it at the line believe it or not. 11. HUGE 3 from 35 or so feet to win the game by Silsbee. 12. BOTTOM LINE is that FT lost this game for the Hawks. NOTHING ELSE!!!!! I will argue with anyone that HJ is still the better team, but it was the Tigers night. It took HJ shooting 35% from the FT line for the Tigers to pull out a miracle 35 footer at the buzzer to win the game. Great game by both teams. Congrats to the Tigers on the win. We will see the Tigers on the 31st in Sour Lake for Round 2!!!! Keep your heads high HJ, you came from 18 down with 8:30 to go in the game to tie it. You never gave up!!!! This game will make you better!!!!
Nice assessment, Lazeek. But on your point #9, I would prefer the language, "Hardin-Jefferson regained control of the game in the 4th with deliberate and intelligent play." Now, doesn't that sound better than "Silsbee started to fold . . .?" And on your point #12 - crying about free throws missed - isn't that part of any game even though this game had more attention than most? Tell you what, next game we'll shoot your free throws and you shoot ours; that's a fair solution don't you think? ;D
Come on Tigersvoice, your better than that. He's not crying about the missed FTs. He's just stating a factual stat of the game. Now if he would have said that Silsbee cheated or played dirty, then maybe you could say he's crying. But when you look at the stats, FT shooting was a huge factor in the outcome of this game. Silsbee struggled though too. I'm sure Silsbee shoots better than 50% for the year. How many turnovers did each team have? Did I miss that stat?
So was Lumberton that much better or did Nederland have an off night. LCM killed Lumberton but Lumberton beat Livingston and gave Nederland a scare.
Gotta give Lumberton some credit. They played PAM tight in a game earlier this year, they beat Livingston last week, and they played hard against Nederland last night. I think some teams don't take Lumberton seriously, but they have a competitive team, and they play hard. After beating Central Tuesday, I'm sure the Ned kids were not as focused as they should have been. I hope it was a wake up call so they will not take anyone lightly for the remainder of the season.

Santa will have to rent out Ford Park- The government is taking most everything I earn in order to help those who cant (or more likely, won't) help themselves. 2. I can certainly understand how "having been in the trenches" and "playing that tougher schedule" is what made that 38 footer fall at the buzzer.
The tougher schedule may not have been what made the 38 footer fall, but it did help Silsbee to be in position to win it from 38 feet.
Great theory that sounds good but game results do not validate. If that "tougher schedule" theory is valid, then why did the "tougher schedule" allow them to squander an 18 point lead? After all, that "tougher schedule" allegedly made them more knowledgeable and more capable of handling the pressures that go with a big game. If what you say is correct, you are, in so many words, suggesting that if HJ had played Dallas Kimball and South Oak Cliff within the last 45 days, then they would have won the game and you are also ostensibly saying that Silsbee will win the game at HJ (doesn"t matter which court a game is played on when one team is "battle tested" and the other isn't) and I disagree.
Sorry game results definitely validate: 1. In their closest game of the season, H-J hits 35% of their free throws; 2. In a game where the team's last shot decides the outcome of the game, Silsbee hits their final shot, H-J does not; 3. That 18 point lead came as they erased a 5 point deficit, which I'll have to check but is probably the lowest lead H-J had taken into the half this year. Look, there are some who are trying to say that H-J played a cupcake schedule, I am not one of them. But Silsbee played a tougher schedule and it gave them an edge. How much? Probably not much...but then again, in a game that was decided by just 3 points. they didn't need too much.
HJ led Nederland only by [s]4[/s] at half. Oops, it was 5. (27-22).

Shawn Prudhomme.....Is he the BEST in SETX this year?
Honest Abe replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
He is top 5 but not #1..I believe Jordan Holmes is the best all around player in setx..then Christian from central thenShawn
Shawn is definitely the best all-around player. It takes more than athletic ability to be the best. Holmes is an exciting player, but Prudhomme has that 'it' factor. -
Silsbee is battle -tested. Been in the trenches in several games this year. They know what it takes to win and lose in big games this year. Looking at the score, I can only assume this is HJ's first true battle for the year. If I was a HJ fan, I would feel bad about the loss last night but feel better about the future. HJ will be ready for playoffs. As I said before, both teams are making the playoffs and fighting to reach Austin. In the end, we all will be pulling for both teams during their playoff run. On a lighter side, I think Nash and SANTA should pool their [s]monies[/s]...err resources and rent out Ford Park for the next game, though I think the Montagne would be more intimate for this game. Okay Nash and Santa, work your majic
You could be right BD3. HJ is has not had many close games this year, and I doubt they have trailed in very many either. However, that's not their fault that nobody (until now) has given them much of a game. They played about the same schedule as last year, and they lost games last year against teams they destroyed this year. As mentioned by another poster, they played Nederland, Central, Jacksonville, and KW Park. These are all good teams who HJ beat easily. I do think this game will prepare them (and Silsbee) for a deep playoff run. I'm still debating on what was more impressive: Silsbee's dominant 3rd quarter or HJ's ferocious comeback in the 4th? Proves that both teams are very explosive. Going to be an interesting road to the state tourney. Good luck to both teams.
