It all turned around about 9 years ago when he and a few others started a little dribblers program in Nederland. As long as he is our head coach, we will continue to be competitive, and that will keep us active on this board. As I've said before, I don't expect Nederland to win district this season (as I expected them to win last year), but it will not surprise me if they win district again. With their 7th, 8th, 9th, JV, and Varsity teams all winning district last year, I expect Nederland will be very competitive for years to come...
HonestAbe, can't agree with you more about Brian English. I believe my Pirates would still be a force if he would have stayed. I still get sick at my stomach.....as long as he's in Nederland, you will be a power in basketball. Best coach in the area and a great man. We miss him terribly. I honestly believe he could coach at the next level; perhaps Lamar should give him a chance given the clowns they've been through in the last couple of decades.
Great man?? Yes!!! Best coach in the area??? No, but he is VERY good!!!! And not far behind the best coaches in the area. Got to get some hardware before you can be the best!!!!
Ok, Lazeek, then who are the best coaches in the area? Is that really how you judge who the best coaches are? Are John Stockton, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, and Charles Barkley not some of the best NBA players to have ever played the game? None of these players ever won a championship. Based on hardware, HJ coach has a state title and who else? Here are a few arguments which Coach English has accomplished which make him one of the best coaches in the area: 5 time coach of the year in district 20-4A (2 at Vidor, 3 at Nederland) 2 District Championships at Nederland (Last district championship was in 1955) 2 trips to the playoffs at Vidor-something that has never happened in Vidor history (vidor never even had a winning season above .500 until he arrived) and has not happened since he left. 3 Playoff trips at Nederland ( last was 1992, and before that was in 1955) 1 Regional appearance in 4A last season What other coaches around here have turned 2 programs completely around like he has in the past 10 years? I know, I know, HJ has way more playoff appearances and a few state championships. HJ has a strong history of excellence in Basketball. The statement made by Robanadana was that he is one of the best coaches in the area. If he's not, then who are the best-in your opinion? Who has the hardware that meets your requirements?

That's not saying much Dove, since you don't think Nederland is going to be good this year. ::) And since when is judging a summer JV basketball game ever considered a benchmark for success? Weak!
Barbers Hill got in by winning one of the poorest districts around. Barbers Hill would be better off being in the district with houston yates, houston worthing, jones etc...take your pick. Ozen is by far the stronger team on both sides of the ball. God, Barbers Hill Fans get on my nerves too...everybody pray they get re-ailligned this year to a houston based district so we maybe wont have to deal with them anymore. Ozen by 4 TD's..no way Barbers Hill can keep up with Ozens speed.
I would not be surprised if Ozen wins, but 4TDs?? Don't think they've beat anyone by 4TDs all year. Lots of people also predicted Vidor would lose to Livingston and Ozen b/c of their speed, and Vidor proved them wrong. Speed is nice to have, but it only wins you games against weak teams, and BH is not weak! Should be a great game!

I say Nederland beats the Pats: Ned 41 GCM 21 Nederland's offense did not start clicking until after the midway point in the season, and they still scored 38 on GCM in the beginning of the season. Neds 'D' causes chaos for opposing offenses, and those two fumbles are a big reason the Dogs won. All year, many opponents fans said their team would have won, but they fumbled, or they threw Ints, or... TOs are huge in FB, and Nederland has created them all year in crucial moments of games. I believe their defense does it again! PNG wins over Dayton in a shootout Vidor wins over Crosby in a low scoring game BH wins over Ozen by containing Green and company

You are looking waaaay too deep into this one, Dove. The topic is Central Jaguar Basketball, right? There has been talk about Kristian Smith and that's it, so I did a bit of research-not that hard to do-and provided some names. The reason you do not have to look up anyone from 'my team' is because 5on5, dogs1218, #1 manager, EZDAWG, and myself have provided you (and others) with players names, etc. from 'my team' for the past 5-6 months. I'm trying to stay on topic here, and I don't see what is wrong with that! Anyway, this Central Jaguar team was up and down last year. They lost to WB early by a lot, then a few weeks later, they returned the favor. Ozen beat Central in the 1st game of district, then Central beat Ozen at home about 6 weeks later. Central also lost two district games to Nederland, and one more to LCM. Signs of a young team with their inconsistency. I see this team finishing anywhere from 1st-3rd in district and winning two playoff games (depending on their bracket).

Ha! You funny! ;D ;D ;D Just haven't heard any other names from Central other than K. Smith, and I'm not 'nervous' about ONE player unless his initials are MJ! Other players from last year's team are: Robert Mitchell (Junior) Malec Fruge Joseph Allen (graduated) Craig Ferguson Cody Bertrand Markel Frelow (graduated) Dorasheo Thorton

By the way Central play, they will go as far as K.Smith takes them.. Ball is in his hands for every crucial play
What else does Central have? Did they lose much to graduation? I remember they were quick last year, but don't remember any 'Bigs'. I know their JV team was good last year too. K. Smith has been talked about, wondering what other talent they have? Obviously he can't do it all himself. Whipped up on who this summer, the Freshman team? It really doesn't matter Dove. Nederland's Varsity, JV, and Freshman all won district last year. If you want to make yourself feel better by trying to discredit them from an 8th grade game during the summer, then go for it! Their play on the court last year (combined record of 92-8) speaks for itself, and all evidence points towards another strong year for Big Ned Basketball! He is referring to this year's Varsity squad not being as good as those players mentioned, I believe? Not the Ned Freshman team from last year. But the Ned freshman team only lost two games last year. One in the Championship game of the Ned tourney, and the other in OT against Ozen. They accomplished that w/o their best freshman (Weisbrod).
